GENERAL
The Hyco Speedflow is an unvented water heater designed for direct connection
to the mains supply, and can serve one or more outlets using ordinary taps.
It is recommended that the Speedflow is fitted by an experienced installer
familiar with unvented water heaters.
FITTING TO WALL
The Speedflow is designed to be located in the vertical position below the outlet
to be supplied. It can be free standing, mounted on the floor or fixed to a wall
using the bracket supplied. Either way it must remain upright, with the pipe
connection at the top.
Allow for the weight of the Speedflow when full of water (1kg per litre) when
assessing the suitability of a potential fitting.
PLUMBING CONNECTIONS
Installation must comply with current Water Regulations.
The hot and cold fittings are ½” BSP at the top of the unit. These fittings are
colour coded (blue = cold, red = hot) and are not interchangeable.
Use PTFE tape on the threads and fibre/synthetic washers to ensure a water-
tight seal.
The Speedflow is supplied with a 6 bar pressure relief valve. This must
ALWAYS be fitted. The relief valve must discharge to a safe and visible
place, in accordance with Water Supply regulations.
Depending on the installation circumstances, other accessories may also be
required. If required, these must be ordered separately and are installed as
shown on the diagrams opposite. Do remember that the mains water pressure
can increase considerably at night.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
Installation should comply with the latest IEE regulations.
Connection should be to a fused 13A spur. If the cable length is insufficient it
is recommended that the entire cable is replaced and no joins made to the
original.
THE SPEEDFLOW MUST BE EARTHED.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT SWITCH THE HEATER ON UNLESS YOU ARE
CERTAIN IT IS COMPLETELY FULL OF WATER.
OPERATION
Switch on the mains supply. The external neon lamp indicates when the
element is heating. The adjustable thermostat has a range of 20-70 degrees
centigrade.
A re-settable safety cut-out switches off the electricity supply in the event of the
element over-heating. To access the cut-out gently prise off the thermostat
knob and unscrew the grey plastic cover plate. The cut-out is identified by a
red button and is located inside the unit on the left hand side. To re-set the cut-
out, press the red button.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT SWITCH HEATER ON IF IT IS SUSPECTED OF
BEING FROZEN.
GUARANTEE
The Speedflow is guaranteed for 12 months against faults in manufacture.
Hyco reserves the right to repair or replace faulty products. Incorrect
installation and the consequences of limescale deposits are excluded. Hyco
Manufacturing shall not be liable for any consequential losses.

A.Contents
This kit contains:
•1 expansion vessel
•1 check (one-way) valve
B. Compatibility
To be used in conjunction with Hyco Speedflow 10L and 15L unvented (mains pressure) water heaters.
C. When this kit is required
This kit is required if either of the following conditions applies:
1. Presence of device preventing reverse flow
If a one-way device is fitted that prevents hot water expansion, the pressure relief valve would
operate routinely on the heating cycle. This is not permissible under Water Regulations. Note
that pressure reducing valves, water meters and similar devices are usually one-way and
would block expansion.
2. Cold water off-take too close to the heater
It is a requirement to ensure that stored heated water does not mix with drinking water
supplies. If there is a cold water off-take very close to the heater there is a risk that the hot and
cold water supplies would mix. The minimum distance required between the heater and the
nearest cold water off-take is 2.8m for the Speedflow 10L and 4.2m for the Speedflow 15L
model.

Pressure reducing Valve
A. Contents
This kit contains:
•1 expansion vessel
•1 pressure reducing valve
B. Compatibility
To be used in conjunction with Hyco Speedflow 10L and 15L unvented (mains pressure) water heaters.
C. When this kit is required
This kit is required if there is a risk that mains incoming water pressure may exceed 4.2 bar. Please
note water pressure fluctuates from place to place and from time to time. It is usually highest at night
when demand for water by the public is lowest.
In most instances water pressure is below 4.2 bar and this kit is not required. If there is any doubt, it is
strongly recommended that the pressure is measured with an appropriate meter.
If the incoming water pressure is too high and this pressure reducing kit is not fitted, the pressure relief
valve (supplied with the heater) should open and discharge water constantly. This is a clear indication
that kit SF2 is required.
The pressure reducing valve must be fitted so that water flows in the direction of the arrow. Water will
not flow in the reverse direction. The valve works by reducing the pressure at the outlet side to approx
3 bar, regardless of the pressure on the inlet side.
The expansion vessel must be fitted downstream of the pressure reducing valve and is necessary to
accommodate the expansion of water as it is heated, as the pressure reducing valve prevents the usual
expansion through the pipework.
If there is a cold water draw off located down stream of the pressure reducing valve, fit a check valve
(not supplied) in the position shown.
