Check the equipmentupon arrivalfordamage orshortagesand reportsametoourOfficeorAgentbefore
starting.
Position the Softeneron afirmfoundation,preferablyconcrete,withsufficientspaceforoperation and
maintenance.The softenermustbe withinOne and aHalfmetresofa240V-10 ampPowerOutlet. The
softener MUST be installed undercoverand protected fromthe weatherasthe Valvecontroland Transformer
arenot waterproof.
STEP 1The Softenerissupplied withthe resinpreloaded inthe tankand the valve/ bypass assembled
on the tank.
STEP 2Connectthe Inletand Outletpipesand Drainline tothe controlvalveasperthe instruction
bookinstallation details. Notethedirectional arrowson theValve. Theinletison theright
hand side facing thefrontofthevalve.The drainisfromthe largerelbowon the top of the
valve.The valveInletand Outletthreadsare25mm BSP Femalewitha12mm pushon Hose
connection forthe drainline.
STEP 3Removefrontlidfromthe cabinet. Then connectcabinetbrine overflowdrainline towaste
trap.
STEP4Load Twobagsof25kghigh puritywatersoftenersalt intothe cabinet and replacefront lid.
IBCWaterrecommendsthat onlyhigh puritysalt be used inthe softener.
STEP5RefertoInstruction bookletforstartup procedure(placing conditionerintoService")and itis
recommended toread fullythe instruction manualbeforecommencing the installation and
placing the systemintooperation.

The WS1-TChasbeen factory programmed withthe majorityof the commandsand parametersinstalled. It is
necessary on commissioning ofthe softenertoprograminthe “DAYS between regenerationsascalculated on
page 5and ifdesired another time of day when regeneration istoproceed oracceptthe factory defaultof
2am and tosetup the clock toregisterthe currenttime ofday.The supplied transformerplugsintothe back
socket mounted on the back faceofthe front panelofthe valve.
The procedureisasfollows:
Plug in thetransformer into themainsand turn on –valve will sequence to theservice position.

changed proceed as 2ID. Ifacceptablepress SET
HOUR button and go to 3ID.
Step 2ID–Using the keys inputdesired Time
OfRegeneration. Notethe clock isa24 hourdisplay
and onlyhours notminutes can be programmed
in. Press SETHOUR togo toStep 3ID
Step 3ID –Daysbetween regeneration
Use or buttonstoSet the daysbetween
regeneration ascalculated on page 5.
Press SETHOUR toexit.

Power outage
When electricpowerisinterrupted the microprocessorwill holdall relevant information inmemory exceptfor
the currenttime ofday.
Currenttime ofday
When powerisrestored the displaywill Flashand go tothe Time-HourSetting. Press SETHOUR and input
the current TimeOF Day. Ifpower islostduring aregeneration cyclethevalve will remain operational
in thecurrentcycleand will recommence electricallyin thatcyclewhen power isrestored.
In long power outages itisadvisableto check thatthesystem isnotin aregeneration cyclethatcould
bedischarging water to drain and in thisinstance itwould beadvisableto place thevalve in bypass
modeuntil power isrestored.
General
Note: When changing valveoperationalcyclesthe valvecontrolwill emit anumberofwhirring sounds.
Note:-The valvecannot be positioned intothe regeneration mode without ELECTRICPower.
USERDISPLAYS.
General Operation
When the systemisoperating one ortwodisplayswill be shown. Pressing
the UPorDOWNbutton will alternatebetween the displays. One ofthe
displaysisthe Current TimeofDaytothe nearest HOUR and the second
Displayisthe daysremaining until the next regeneration. Ifthe days
remaining isequaltoONEthen regeneration will takeplaceat the next
preset regeneration time. The usercan scroll between the displaysas
desired.
Ifthe systemhascalled foraregeneration at the preset timethen an
arrowwill point to“Regen.“ on the panelface.
RegenerationMode
Typicallyasoftenerisset toregenerateat atimeofNO orlowwater
usage. Factory default is 2am . Ifthereisademand forwaterwhen the
systemisregenerating then Hardwateronlywill be available. Ifasystem
demandsthat no hardwaterisbypassed during regeneration , then the
softenerwill havetohaveaHardWaterBypass Prevention Solenoid
Valvefitted.
When the systembeginstoregenerate, the displaywill change to
indicatethe variouscyclesofthe regeneration process C1>C5 and an
arrowwill point toRegen. The systemwill automaticallystep through the
regeneration cyclesand reset back tothe servicecyclewhen the
regeneration iscomplete.
Manual Regeneration
Amanualregeneration can be initiated intwoways. Delayed or
Immediate.
ForDelayed atthepresettime ofregeneration: SimultaneouslyPress
▼buttons togetherand release. Anarrowwill appearnext to
Regen.Thisrequest can be cancelled if necessary byagain
simultaneouslypressing the ▼buttonstogether.
ForImmediateregeneration: SimultaneouslyPress ▼buttons
togetherforabout 5secondsuntil the valvechangestothe C1 mode.
The softenerwill begintoregenerateimmediately. Thisrequest cannot
be cancelled.

ofthe required settingsand onlyrequiressimple
minimalon siteprogramming forthe remaining
settingstosuit the specificinstallation.
The controlprovidesefficient, troublefree, soft water.
The SeriesWS1-TCvalvecombinesdesign
simplicitywithglass reinforced NORYL* plastic
construction toprovide an uncommonlyreliable
appliance.
Ifmaintenancebecomesnecessary,the ModelWS1-
TCwaterConditionerSystemhasthe capabilityfor
quick repairs.

Special Features
•Memory Retention. During apoweroutage,
criticaloperating information inthe control's
memory isstored inaspecialelectronicdevice
called aNOVARAM.When powerisrestored,the
information isreturned tothe microprocessorand
operation resumesasifan outage never
occurred.The timeofdaywill be latebythe
lengthofthe poweroutage.Becausemostpower
outagesareless than one minuteinduration,it
maybe monthsoryearsbeforethe timedisplay
requiresresetting.Ifan outage ofone ormore
hoursoccurs,the timeofdayshouldbe resetbut
no otherreprogramming isnecessary.
•Design Reliability. Solid-stateelectronicsassure
manyyearsoftrouble-free performance.

•GuestCycle. Anextraregeneration can be
achieved atanytimebypressing the ▼buttons
on the frontpanel.It takesafewminutesforthe
regeneration tostart. The unitcompletesthe
regeneration inabouttwohours.Thisfeatureis
beneficialwhen you expecttousemorethan the
normalamountofwater;forexample,guestvisits
oran extraheavylaundry day.The manualcan
be setforimmediateregeneration ordelayed
regeneration atthe programmed intimeof
regeneration normallyat 2am.
General ConditionerInformation
How theWaterSoftenerWorks
Ingeneral,yourwatersoftenerworksinthe follow-ing
manner.Hardwaterflowsintothe softenerand
through the resinbed wherecalciumand magnesium
hardness mineralsareexchange.The conditioned
waterflowsoutofthe resinbed intoyourplumbing
system.Afteracertainamountofhardwaterhas
passed through the softener,the resincannot
removeanymoreminerals.Thisresinstateiscalled
exhaustion and indicatesthatthe resinneedstobe
regenerated.The regeneration process restoresthe
conditioner'sabilitytosoften water.The regeneration
process utilised Brine fromthe storage compartment
torecharge the resinand the Brine will havetobe
replenished withSaltregularly.Thissoftener
consumes3.6kgofsalt perregeneration.

All plumbing and electricalconnectionsmustconform
tolocalcodes.Inspectthe unitcarefullyforcarrier
shortage orshipping damage.
LocationSelection
•Locateunit asclosetoadrainaspossible
•Ifsupplementary watertreating equipmentis
required,makesurethatadequateadditional
spaceisavailable.Locatethe cabinetsoftenerin
an accessibleplacesothatsaltcan easilybe
added.
•Do notinstall anyunitcloserthan 3m(10ft)of
piping between the outletofthe waterconditioner
and the inletofthe waterheater.Waterheaters
can transmitheatback downthe coldwaterpipe
intothe controlvalve.Hotwatercan severely
damage the controller.
A3mtotalpipe run (including bends,elbowsetc) isa
reasonabledistancetopreventhotwaterdamage.A
positivewaytopreventhotwaterfromflowing froma
heatsourcetothe conditioneristoinstall acheck
valveinthe soft waterpiping fromthe conditioner. Ifa
check valveisinstalled,makesurethatthe water-
heating unitisequipped withaproperlyrated
temperatureand pressuresafetyreliefvalve.Always
conformtolocalcodes.
•Do not locatethe unit inan area wherethe temp
everfallsbelow1ºC (34ºF)orover49ºC (120ºF).
•Do not install the unit nearacidoracidfumes.
•Do not exposethe unit topetroleumproducts.
WaterLineConnection
Abypass valvesystemmustbe installed toprovide
foroccasionswhen the waterconditionermustisby-
passed forhardwaterorforservicing.Bypass offers
simplicityand easeof operation.Thesesoftenersare
equipped asstandardwithabypass valve. See pages
13 and14
DrainLineConnection–tosewer
The ideallocation forthe unitisaboveand notmore
than 6.1m(20ft)fromthe drain. Forsuchinstallations,
using the appropriateadaptorfitting (supplied),
connect12mm (1/2”) plastictubing tothe drainline
connection located on the top ofthe valve.
Ifthe unitislocated morethan 6.1m(20ft)fromthe
drain,use20mm tubing forrunsup to12.0m.You
mayelevatethe line up to1.8mproviding the run
doesnotexceed 4.5mand the waterpressureatthe
conditionerisnotless than 380kPa(55psi.)You may
elevatean additional500mm foreachadditional
70kPa. (10psi)ofwaterpressure.
When the drainline iselevated and emptiesintoa
drainwhichisbelowthe levelofthe controlvalve,
forma170mm (7inch)loop atthe drainend ofthe
line sothatthe bottomofthe loop islevelwiththe
drainline connection.Thisprovidesan adequate
siphon trap.
Ifthe drainemptiesintoan overhead sewerline,a
sink-type trap must be used.
Caution
Never connectthedrain lineinto adrain,
sewer lineortrap. Always allow an airgap
between thedrain lineand thewastewater
to preventthepossibilityofsewagebeing
back-siphoned into theconditioner.

ImportantInstallation Details
The controlvalve,fittingsand/orbypass aredesigned
toaccommodateminorplumbing misalignmentsbut
arenotdesigned tosupportthe weightofthe system
orthe plumbing.
Do no useVaseline, oils, otherhydrocarbon lubricants
orspraysilicone anywhere.Asilicone lubricantmay
be used on black o-ringsbutisnotnecessary.Avoid
anytypeoflubricants,including silicone,on the
clear lip seals.
The nutsand capsaredesigned tobe unscrewed or
tightened byhand orwiththe specialplasticwrench.
Do notuseapipe wrenchtotighten orloosen nutsor
caps.Do notplaceascrewdriverinthe slotson caps
and/ortap withahammer.
Do notusepipe dope orothersealanton threads.
Useteflon tape on threaded inlet, outletand drain
fittings.Teflon tape isnotnecessary on the nut
connection orcapsbecauseofo-ring seals.
After completing anyvalve maintenance involving
thedrive assemblyofthedrive campassembly
and pistons,unplug power source jack fromthe
circuitboard(black wire)and plug back in.This
resetsthe electronicsand establishesthe service
piston position.The displayshouldflashand then
reset the valvetothe serviceposition ifnecessary.
All plumbing shouldbe done inaccordancewithlocal
plumbing codes.The pipe sizeforthe drainline
shouldbe aminimumof12mm inside diameter.
Solderjointsnearthe drainmustbe done priorto
connecting the drainline flowcontrolfitting.Leaveat
least150mm (6”) between the drainline controlfitting
and solderjointswhen soldering pipesthatare
connected on the drainline controlfitting.Failureto
do thiscouldcauseinteriordamage tothe drainline
flowcontrolfitting.
When assembling the installation fitting package (inlet
and outlet),connectthe fitting tothe plumbing system
firstand then attachthe nut, splitring and o-ring.
Heatfromsoldering orsolventcementsmaydamage
the nut, splitring and o-ring.Solderjointsshouldbe
cooland solventcementsshouldbe setbefore
installing the nut, splitring oro-ring.Avoidgetting
primerand solventcementon anypartofthe o-rings,
bypass valveorcontrolvalve.
Position the softenerwithin1½metresofa10 amp
GPO. The transformerisconnected intothe plug
socketon the back of the valvecontrolpanel.Do not
drop the transformerorhavethe cabletoo taut. The
transformerisonlysuitablefor internaluse only.
The softenermust be weatherprotected.
Forfull understanding ofthe watersoftenerwe
recommend thatthe instruction manualbe fullyread
beforeinstallation and commissioning ofthe softener
byundertaken.

Install grounding strap on metalplates.
Bypass Valve
The bypass valveistypicallyused toisolatethe
controlvalvefromthe plumbing system’swater
pressureinordertoperformcontrolvalverepairsor
maintenance.The WS1bypass valveisparticularly
unique inthe watertreatmentindustry due toits
versatilityand stateofthe artdesign features.The
full flowbypass valveincorporatesfourpositions,
including adiagnosticposition thatallowsservice
personneltowork on apressurised systemwhilestill
providing untreated bypass watertothe facilityor
residence.Itscompletelynon-metallic,all plastic
design allowsforeasyaccess and serviceability
without the need fortools.
The bypass bodyand rotorsareglass filled Noryl(or
equivalent)and the nutsand capsareglass filled
polypropylene.All sealsareself-lubricating EPDMto
helppreventvalveseizing afterlong periodsofnon-
use.Internalo-ringscan easilybe replaced if service
isrequired.
The bypass consistsoftwointerchangeableplug
valvesthatareoperated independentlybyred arrow-
shaped handles.The handlesidentifythe flow
direction ofthe water.The plug valvesenablethe
bypass valvetooperateinfourpositions.
1. NormalOperation Position: The inlet and outlet
handlespointinthe direction offlowindicated by
the engraved arrowson the controlvalve.Water

Manual Regeneration
Toforcethe controltoperformaregeneration,press
the ▼pushbuttons.Thesebuttonsarelocated on
the frontofthe control.When you press the buttons
simultaneouslythe controlperformsafull
regeneration ofthe conditioner.You can usethis
featureifyou need alarge amountofconditioned
waterbut the expected capacityremaining islow.
Note: Ifyou press thisbutton onceand release
immediately.The regeneration will occuratthe
delayed timesetting i.e.2am.Ifanimmediate
regeneration isrequiredthenhold in thebutton
for3secondsuntil thesoftener goes intothe
regeneration mode.
CareofYourWaterConditioner
General
Check the salt levelinthe salt storage tankregularly.
Alwaysmaintainthe salt levelabovethe waterlevel
foraconsistent salt dosage and properwater
conditioneroperation. Don't allowthe conditionerto
run out ofsalt beforerefilling. When refilled, the salt
storage tankcontainsenough salt tosupport
numerousresinbed regenerations. It isrecommended
toutiliseahigh grade watersoftenersalt likeIBC
premiumgrade. Do not useafine grade ofsalt. Have
the salt storage tankserviced onceayeartoremove
accumulated sediment that mayimpede brine draw.
CleaningtheInjector/InjectorScreen
The injectoristhe component, whichcreatesthe
vacuumnecessary todrawthe brine intothe water
conditioner. Clean the injectorand the injectorscreen
onceayearinordertomaintainproperwater
conditioning. Somelocationsmayrequiremore
frequent injectorand screen servicing.
Completethe following stepstoclean the injectorand
the injectorscreen:
1.Unplug the wall mount transformer.
2.Shut off the watersupplyorput the bypass valve
intothe bypass position.
3.Depressurisethe pipework byopening atap inthe
serviceline.
4.Unscrewthe injectorcap (large top slotted cap)
and lift off. Loosen cap withspecialplasticwrench
ifnecessary. Attached tothe injectorcap isa
screen. Removethe screen and clean iffouled.
The injectorcan be pried out withasmall
screwdriver. The injectorconsistsofathroat and
nozzle. Chemicallyclean the injectorwith
vinegar. The holescan be blownout withair.
Bothpieceshavesmall diameterholesthat
controlthe flowratesofwatertoinsurethat the
properconcentration ofregenerant isused.
Sharpobjects, whichcan scorethe plastic,
shouldnot be used toclean the injector. Scoring
the injectororincreasing the diameterofthe hole
couldchange the operating parametersofthe
injector. Pushthe injectorfirmlyinplace, replace
the screen and hand tighten the injectorcap.
5.Closeoff the tap inserviceline and reposition
bypass valveback intoserviceposition.
MaintainingtheDrainLine
The drainline dischargesand brine during the
regeneration cycle. Typically, the line drainsintoa
sewerconnection. The installershouldplumbthe
drainline according tolocalcodes, leaving a25—
50mm airgap between the end ofthe drainline and
the drainopening.
Besurethat the drainline remainsunrestricted sothe
regeneration waterand brine can flowfreelytothe
drain. Do not set objectson the drainline that could
crimpthe line and restrict flow.

BrineLineConnection
The brine line comprisesapick up aircheck
assemblyinstalled inthe brine wall inthe cabinet and
connected bytubing tothe brine elbowon top ofthe
valve.
Note: Makesurethat all fittingsand connectionsare
tight sothat prematurechecking doesnot takeplace.
Prematurechecking occurswhen the ball inthe air
check sealsbeforeall brine isdrawnout ofthe brine
tank. Refertothe Troubleshooting section inthis
manualforadditionalinformation.
BrineTankOverflow LineConnection
Inthe event ofamalfunction, the tankoverflow
connection directsoverflowtothe draininstead of
spilling on the floorwhereit couldcausewater
damage. Completethe following stepstoconnect the
overflowfitting tothe brine tank:
1.Locatethe fitting overflowon the side ofthe brine
tank.
2.Attachalengthof1/2in(1.3cm)tubing (not
supplied)tothe fitting and run tothe drain.
Note: Do not elevatethe overflowline higherthan
80mm belowthe bottomofthe overflowfitting. Do not
tieintothe drainline ofthe controlunit. The overflow
line must be adirect, separateline fromthe overflow
fitting tothe drain, sewerortube. Allowan airgap as
inthe drainline connection.

Placing SoftenerintoOperation
Initial Start-Up
1.Mainswaterturned off tounit orbypass valvein
shut off mode.
2.Connect transformertopowerpoint and turnon.
3. Programcontrollerasper“Customer/Install
Programming Instructions”.
4. Press the “ ▼”buttonsinoncesimultaneously
and releaseand againpress but holdfor3
secondsuntil regeneration starts.
5. The softenerwill advancetothe backwash
position ”C1”.
6. Slowlyopen the inlet valveorthe bypass valve
intothe “DiagnosticMode”approximatelyone
quarteroft aturnand allowthe mineraltankto
slowlyfill up withwater.
Caution
Ifthewater supplyvalve isopened too rapidly
ortoo far, resin may belost. In theBACKWASH
position, you should hear airescaping slowly
fromthedrain line.
7.When all the airispurged fromthe tank(water
beginstoflowsteadilyfromthe drain), slowly
open the mainsupplyvalveall the way. Allowthe
watertorun intothe drainuntil the waterappears
clear. Turnoff the watersupplyand wait forafew
minutestoallowall trapped airtoescape fromthe
tank. Then open the inlet valve/bypass inlet
slowlyand allowthe backwashtotimedown.
8.Press the “▼OR ”button and allowvalveto
position intothe drawcycle “C2”. Oncethe valve
ispositioned then againpress “▼OR ”and allow
toadvancetothe second backwash “C3”– Once
againpress “▼OR ”togo tofast rinse“C4”,
then press “▼OR ”togo to “C5” Regenerant
refill. Allowtofill the brine compartment. Check
that waterisslowlyflowing intothe brine well by
lifting up the brine well cap.
9.Allowtotimeout and notewaterlevelinbrine
compartment. The compartment shouldhave
been priorfilled withsalt. The valvewill then go
back intothe servicemode.
10.Allowthe salt todissolveinthe brine
compartment forat least 30 minutes.
11.It isrecommended togiveanewsoftenera
completeregeneration beforeplacing fullyinto
service.
12.Press the “ ▼”buttonsinoncesimultaneously
and releaseand againpress but holdfor3
secondsuntil regeneration starts.
13.Allowtoprogress through tothe drawmode”C2”.
When the valveisinthismode check tosee that
brine isbeing drawnout ofthe cabinet intothe
valve. The brine drawisvery slowand all brine
will be drawnout until the aircheck on the brine
risertube shutsoff. The systemwill then remain
inthe drawcycletoslowlyrinse(And regenerate)
the brine through the resin.
14.Allowthe systemtocompleteafull regeneration
and returntothe serviceposition. Thiswill takea
fewhours.
15.When the unit hasreturned tothe serviceposition
withthe normaldisplaythen open the bypass
valveoutlet valveslowlytoenablewatertoenter
the treated waterline ensurethat the bypass
valveiscorrectlyin“NormalOperation”position.
16.Open atap inthe treated waterand allowtorun
todrainforafewminutes. Then check the
harness ofthe waterwiththe supplied test kit.
Ifnot soft allowtorun todrainfor5minutesand
recheck the hardness.
Referto“troubleshooting”section ifthe wateris
still hard.

Control ValveFunction and Cycles
ofOperation
Thisglass filled Noryl1(orequivalent)fullyautomatic
TimeClock controlvalveisdesigned asthe primary
controlcentertodirect and regulateall cyclesofa
watersoftener. The controlvalveisset toregenerate
asatimeclock (passage ofaparticularnumberof
days). The controlvalveisfactory set toregenerate
withadelayregeneration set for2am.
The controlvalveiscompatiblewithavarietyofresin
cleaners. The controlvalveiscapableofrouting the
flowofwaterinthe necessary pathstoregenerate
watertreatment systems. The injectorregulatesthe
flowofbrine. The controlvalveregulatesthe flow
ratesforbackwashing, rinsing and the replenishing of
treated waterintoaregenerant tank.
The controlvalveusesno traditionalfasteners(e.g.
screws); instead clips, threaded caps, nutsand snap
type latchesareused. Capsand nutsonlyneed tobe
firmlyhand tightened becauseradialsealsareused.
Toolsrequired toservicethe valveinclude one small
blade screwdriver, one large blade screwdriver,
pliersand apairofhands. Aplasticwrenchis
availablewhicheliminatesthe need forscrewdrivers
and pliers. Disassemblyforservicing takesmuchless
timethan comparableproductscurrentlyon the
market. Controlvalveinstallation ismade easy
becausethe distributortube can be cut 12.7mm (1/2“)
aboveto12.7mm (1/2“) belowthe top oftankthread.
The distributortube isheldinplacebyan o-ring seal
and the controlvalvealsohasabayonet lock feature
forupperdistributorbaskets.
The ACadapterpowerpack comeswitha2.0meter
powercordand isdesigned forusewiththe control
valve. The ACadapterpowerpack isfordry location
useonly.

Manual InitiatedRegeneration
The usercan initiatemanualregeneration. The user
hasthe option torequest the manualregeneration at

1. Delayed Regeneration : Pressing and
releasing immediatelythe ▼buttons. “ƒ”
will flashtowards regen on the displayand
regeneration will occurat the delayed
regeneration time. The usercan cancelthis
request bypressing and releasing the
▼buttons.
2. Orfor immediate regeneration : Asfor
delayed but Again Pressing and holding the
▼buttonsforapproximately3secondswill
immediatelystart the regeneration. The user
cannot cancelthisrequest.
3. The usercan manually step through the
regeneration process tocheck tosee that the
valveisfunctioning correctlybyusing the
OR ▼buttonstogo tothe next step inthe
regeneration process ie.: C1—C0.
Note:manuallystepping through a
regeneration quicklywill notactually
regeneratethesoftener butwill onlycheck
to see thattherelevantstepsare being
performed correctly.
