INSTRUCTIONS
DESKTOP CHARGER
BC-190
Thank you for purchasing the BC-190
desktop charger. The BC-190 is
designed to charge Li-ion battery packs.
Please read these instructions thoroughly
before using the BC-190.
PRECAUTIONS
RDANGER! Charge the specified Icom
battery packs only. Only tested and
approved for use with genuine Icom battery
packs. Fire and/or explosion may occur
when a third-party or counterfeit battery
pack is charged.
RUSE INDOORS ONLY! NEVER expose
the charger to rain, snow or any liquids.
RCAUTION! NEVER insert battery pack
(with/without the transceiver) in a wet or
soiled condition into the charger. This may
result in corrosion of the charger terminals
or damage to the charger. The charger is
not waterproof and water can easily get
into it.
NEVER attempt to charge alkaline or dry
cell battery packs. The BC-190 charges
Li-ion battery packs only.
NEVER let metal, wire, etc. touch any inter-
nal part of the charger.
NEVER incinerate used battery packs. This
may cause an explosion.
NEVER use the charger when it is covered
by objects which impede heat dispersal.
AVOID charging in conditions of extreme
cold (under +10°C; +50°F) or extreme
heat (over +40°C; +104°F), or unusual
conditions like overvoltage. Otherwise, the
safety/protection circuit in the charger will
activate, then stop charging.
Place the charger in a secure place to
avoid inadvertent use by children.
Keep the charger away from TV sets or
radios to prevent interference.
Make sure battery and charger contacts
are always clean; otherwise battery
packs may not be charged properly.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS! These
instructions contain important safety and
operating details for the BC-190.
This equipment has been tested and found
to comply with the limits for a Class B digi-
tal device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC
Rules. These limits are designed to provide
reasonable protection against harmful in-
terference in a residential installation. This
equipment generates, uses and can radiate
radio frequency energy and, if not installed
and used in accordance with the instruc-
tions, may cause harmful interference to
radio communications. However, there is no
guarantee that interference will not occur in
a particular installation.
If this equipment does cause harmful in-
terference to radio or television reception,
which can be determined by turning the
equipment off and on, the user is encour-
aged to try to correct the interference by
one or more of the following measures:
•
Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
• Increase the separation between the
equipment and receiver.
• Connect the equipment into an outlet on a
circuit different from that to which the re-
ceiver is connected.
• Consult the dealer or an experienced ra-
dio/TV technician for help.
FCC INFORMATION
RCAUTION! Changes or modifications
not expressly approved by the party
responsible for compliance could void the
user's authority to operate the equipment.
FCC WARNING This device complies with Part 15 of the
FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the fol-
lowing two conditions: (1) this device may
not cause harmful interference, and (2)
this device must accept any interference
received, including interference that may
cause undesired operation.
Versions of the BC-190 which
have the “CE” symbol on
the product, comply with the
essential requirements of the 2014/30/EU
directive for Electromagnetic Compatibility
and the 2001/95/EC directive for General
Product Safety.
ABOUT CE
The crossed-out wheeled-bin
symbol on your product, lit-
erature, or packaging reminds
you that in the European
Union, all electrical and elec-
tronic products, batteries, and
accumulators (rechargeable batteries) must
be taken to designated collection locations
at the end of their working life. Do not dis-
pose of these products as unsorted munici-
pal waste. Dispose of them according to
the laws in your area.
DISPOSAL
While Charging:
•
AVOID transmission. Remove the trans-
ceiver from the charger when you need
to transmit.
• REMOVE the transceiver immediately
from the charger when you receive a
call.
• REMOVE
optional equipment from [SP
MIC] jack of the transceiver.
NOTE:
The BC-190 will not fully charge a battery
pack (about 90% of fully charged condi-
tion) for battery protection. And the oper-
ating time of a transceiver with the battery
pack will be shorter. If you would like to
fully charge the battery pack, use the BC-
119N instead of the BC-190.
NOTE:
After charging is completed, the BC-190
will recharge a battery pack automati-
cally when the battery voltage decreases
to 8 V.
When the battery pack is often
left in the BC-190 for long periods, the
battery life cycle will be shorter.
Charging period
2.5 hours* (BP-227/BP-274)
* When charging the battery pack with a
powered-on transceiver, the charging pe-
riod can be up to 4.25 hours.

secure the transceiver
while charging, if
desired.
