IMPORTANTI MISURE DI SICUREZZA
Nell’utilizzo di apparecchiature elettriche devono essere sempre
osservate le seguenti misure di sicurezza.
Utilizzo dell’apparecchio
Leggere tutte le istruzioni.
• Questa macchina è costruita per fare il caffè espresso e all’america-
na, e per erogare acqua calda e vapore: fare attenzione a non scot-
tarsi con getti d’acqua o con uso improprio della stessa.
• Per un corretto inserimento del porta cap-
sula nel gruppo erogazione caffè è neces-
sario, dopo l’inserimento, ruotare il porta
capsula verso destra fino al blocco in corri-
spondenza dell’asola (A).
• Non disinserire mai il porta capsula duran-
te l’erogazione del caffè. Aspettare la fine
della preparazione eil ritornodella lancetta
sull’icona ECO MODE prima di rimuovere il
porta capsula dalla macchina e svuotarlo.
• L’apparecchioèintesoper usodomestico e
per applicazioni simili, quali:
- cucineper ilpersonaledinegozi,ufficied altriambientilavorativi;
- agriturismo;
- clienti in alberghi, motel ed altri alloggi di tipo residenziale;
- ambienti tipo bed & breakfast.
• Utilizzare l’apparecchio solo per l’uso a cui è destinato. Ogni altro

When using electrical appliances, the following safety measures
must always be followed.
Using the machine
Read all instructions.
• This machine is designed to make espresso and brewed coffee
and dispense hot water and steam: be careful not to scald your-
self with water jets or through improper use of the machine.
• To insert the capsule holder correctly into
the coffee dispenser, you must twist the
capsule holder to the right after inserting
it until it locks in place (A).
• Never remove the capsule holder while
dispensing coffee. Wait until it is ready
andtheindicatorreturnstotheECOMODE
icon before removing the capsule holder
from the machine and emptying it.
• This appliance is intended to be used in
household and similar applications such
as:
- staff kitchen areas in shops, offices and other work
environments
- farm stays
- clients in hotels, motels and other residential environments
- bed and breakfast type environments.
• Do not use the appliance for other than its intended use. Any

Installazione dell’apparecchio
• Leggere attentamente le istruzioni.
• Non installare mai la macchina in un ambiente che può rag-
giungere una temperatura inferiore o uguale a 0°C (se l’acqua si
ghiaccia, l’apparecchio può danneggiarsi) o superiore a 40°C.
• Verificare che la tensione della rete elettrica corrisponda a quella
indicata nella targa dati dell’apparecchio. Collegare l’apparecchio
solo ad una presa di corrente avente una portata minima di 6 A
per i modelli alimentati a 230Vac e 15 A per i modelli a 120Vac e
dotati di un’efficiente messa a terra.
• In caso di incompatibilità tra la presa di corrente e la spina
dell’apparecchio, fare sostituire la spina con un’altra di tipo adat-
to da un centro assistenza autorizzato.
• Posizionare l’apparecchio sopra un piano di lavoro lontano da ru-
binetti dell’acqua e lavelli.

• In case of fire use carbon dioxide (CO2) extinguishers. Do not use
water or powder extinguishers.
Installation of the appliance
• Read the instructions carefully.
• Never install the machine in an area where temperatures may
reach0°Corlower(ifthewaterfreezestheappliancemaybedam-
aged) or rise higher than 40 °C.
• Check that the mains voltage corresponds to the requirements in-
dicated on the machine data plate. Only connect the appliance to
a properly grounded power outlet with a minimum rating of 6 A
for models powered at 230 Vac, and 15 A for models powered at
120Vac.
• If the plug and socket are not compatible, have the plug replaced
with a proper one by an authorised service centre.
• Place the machine on a counter top away from water taps and
sinks.
• After removing the packaging, check that the appliance is in per-
fect condition before installation.
• Do not leave the packaging materials within the reach of children.

Pulizia dell’apparecchio

e poi verso l’esterno.
• Pulire la carrozzeria e gli accessori con un panno umido ed asciu-
gare successivamente con un panno asciutto non abrasivo. È
sconsigliato l’uso di detergenti.
• Non sottoporre l’apparecchio ad abbondanti getti d’acqua o ad im-
mersioni parziali o totali.
• Èconsigliato lavare giornalmente il serbatoio e il suo coperchio e ri-
empirlo con acqua fresca potabile.
• Èconsigliato pulire le altre parti a contatto diretto con il cibo o che
possono venire in contatto con acque reflue o schizzi (lancia eroga-
zione vapore/acqua calda, porta capsula, supporto tazzine e cassetto
raccogli gocce) almeno una volta alla settimana.
• In caso di utilizzo della lancia vapore per la preparazione del latte
montato è necessario pulire immediatamente la lancia, come indica-
to nel capitolo PREPARAZIONE LATTE MONTATO.
• Lamacchina deveesseresottopostaa proceduredipulizia,manuten-
zione (si veda capitolo PULIZIA E MANUTENZIONE, pag. 28) e decal-
cificazione (si veda capitolo DECALCIFICAZIONE, pag. 30) da eseguire
periodicamente.

Cleaning the appliance
• Unplug the appliance before cleaning.
• Wait until the appliance is cool before cleaning.
• Remove the water tank by pulling it up slightly then outward.
• Clean the body and accessories with a damp cloth, then wipe
with a non-abrasive dry cloth. Do not use detergents.
• Do notexposethe machinetoextendedjetsofwateror immerse
it in water, partially or fully.
• ITis advisable to clean the tank and its cover daily and fill it with
fresh drinking water.
• ITis recommended toclean theother partsthat comeintodirect
contact with food or which may come into contact with waste-
water or splashes (steam/hot water wand, capsule holder, cup
support and drip tray) at least once a week.
• If the steam wand is used to prepare frothed milk, it must be
cleaned immediately as indicated in the chapter PREPARING
FROTHED MILK.
• The machine must be subjected to cleaning, maintenance (see
the CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE chapter, p. 28) and descaling
(see the DESCALING chapter, page 30) on a regular basis.
• For further information and a more detailed description of
the cleaning procedure, refer to the chapter CLEANING AND
MAINTENANCE.

If the appliance breaks down
Do not use the appliance if the cord or plug are damaged or if
themachineshowssignsof malfunctioning orhas beendamaged
in any way. Take the appliance to the nearest authorised service
centre to be checked or repaired or to verify that it is operating
correctly.
If the power cord is damaged it must be replaced by the manufac-
turer or an authorised service centre.
In case of damage or malfunction, turn off the appliance and do
not tamper with it.
For repairs contact a service centre authorised bythe manufactur-
er and request the use of original spare parts only. Failure to com-
ply with these instructions may compromise the safe operation of
the appliance and will result in the forfeiture of warranty rights.

Power supply cord instructions
a)Use a short power supply cord to avoid becoming entangled in
or tripping over a longer cord.
b) Extension cords may be used if special care is exercised in their
use.
c)Should an extension cord be used:
1)Check that the electrical rating of the extension cord is at
least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance;
2)If the machine is an earthed appliance, check that the exten-
sion cord is a three-wire earthed cord;
3)Arrange the longer cord so that it will not hang from the
worktop or table top, where it can be pulled on by children
or tripped over.

REGOLE GENERALI PER L’USO
DELLA MACCHINA
Leggere attentamente il libretto di istruzioni e le limitazioni sulla
garanzia.
Lamacchinadeveessereallacciataadunaregolarepresadicorren-
te fornita di messa a terra.
La macchina deve essere mantenuta pulita lavando frequente-
mente la griglia, il cassetto raccogli gocce, il porta capsula, il ser-
batoio dell’acqua e la lancia vapore/acqua calda. La manutenzione
va eseguita a macchina spenta.
IMPORTANTE:
Mai immergere la macchina o le sue componenti rimo-
vibili in acqua o introdurla in lavastoviglie.
L’acqua contenuta nel serbatoio deve essere regolarmente sostitu-
ita. Non usare la macchina senza acqua nel serbatoio. Si consiglia
di utilizzare almeno ogni 2 mesi un prodotto per la rimozione del
calcare appositamente studiato per le macchine per espresso se-
condo le indicazioni del capitolo DECALCIFICAZIONE.
NOTA: La macchina è compatibile esclusivamente con
capsule illy Iperespresso.
GENERAL MACHINE OPERATING
RULES
Read the instruction manual and the warranty limitations
carefully.
The machine must be connected to a properly grounded power
outlet.
The machine must be kept clean by frequently washing the
drip plate, drip tray, capsule holder, water tank, and steam/
hot water wand. Maintenance must be carried out with the
machine off.
IMPORTANT:
Never immerse the machine or its removable com-
ponents in water or put it in the dishwasher.
The water in the tank must be replaced regularly. Do not use
the machine without water in the tank. It is advisable to use
a descaler specifically designed for espresso machines at least
once every 2 months following the instructions found in the
chapter on DESCALING.
NOTE: The machine can only be used with illy
Iperespresso capsules.

Estrarre il serbatoio dell’acqua e rimuovere il coperchio. Lavare il serbatoio dell’acqua e il suo coperchio. Riempireil serbatoiodell’acquacon acquafresca potabilefino al li-
vello MAX. Rimontare il coperchio e inserire il serbatoio dell’acqua
completamente nella macchina.
Remove the water tank and take off the cover. Wash the water tank and the cover. Fill the water tank with fresh drinking water up to the MAX level.
Refit the cover and fully insert the tank into the machine.

Inserire la spina nella presa.
Verificare che la manopola vapore sia in posizione OFF.
Premere e rilasciare l’interruttore ON/OFF per accendere la mac-
china. Il quadrante si accende, la lancetta si posiziona istantane-
amente sull’icona ECO MODE (luce verde e fissa) e viene emesso
un segnale acustico.
Con macchina accesa ma inutilizzata (circa 5 minuti), l’icona ECO
MODE si spegne e la lancetta si posiziona in posizione macchina
spenta.
Insert the plug into the socket.
Check that the steam knob is in the OFF position.
Press and release the ON/OFF switch to switch on the machine.
The dial switches on, the indicator instantly moves to the ECO
MODE icon (steady green light) and an audible signal is emitted.
When the machine is switched on but not in use (after about 5
minutes), the ECO MODE icon switches off and the indicator moves
to the 'machine off' position.

Per riattivare la macchina premere e rilasciare l’interruttore ON/
OFF. La lancetta si posiziona istantaneamente sull’icona ECO MODE
(luce verde e fissa).
Una volta attivata la macchina, è necessario eseguire il lavaggio
dei circuiti interni. Smontare la parte terminale esterna della lan-
cia vapore/acqua calda.

Press and release the ON/OFF switch to switch on the machine
again. The indicator will automatically move to ECO MODE (steady
green light).
Once the machine has been activated, the internal circuits must
be washed. Remove the outer end part of the steam/hot water
wand.
Remove the internal part of the steam/hot water wand on the
metal tube.

PREPARAZIONE DEL CAFFÈ
ATTENZIONE: assicurarsi che il porta capsula sia inserito correttamente
prima di erogare caffè. Non disinserirlo mai durante l’erogazione di
caffè, aspettare la fine della preparazione e il ritorno della lancetta
sull’icona ECO MODE.
NOTA: la macchina è stata concepita per fornire il massimo risultato in
tazza utilizzando capsule illy Iperespresso. Le capsule sono monodose
e non devono essere utilizzate per erogare due caffè.
NOTA: le impostazioni di fabbrica rispecchiano i volumi e le tempera-
ture ideali per avere il miglior caffè espresso. La macchina consente
comunque di memorizzare il volume e la temperatura di caffè
desiderato in tazza (vedi paragrafi MODIFICA DELLA QUANTITÀ DELLA
PREPARAZIONE IN TAZZA e MODIFICA DELLA TEMPERATURA DELLA
PREPARAZIONE IN TAZZA).

Utilizzare le capsule illy mostrate in figura. Premere e rilasciare l’interruttore ON/OFF per accendere la mac-
china. Il quadrante si accende, la lancetta si posiziona istantane-
amente sull’icona ECO MODE (luce verde e fissa) e viene emesso un
segnale acustico.
Posizionare il supporto tazzine sulla griglia poggia tazza assicu-
randolo alle apposite feritoie.
Use the illy capsules shown in the figure. Press and release the ON/OFF switch to switch on the machine. The
dial switches on, the indicator instantly moves to the ECO MODE
icon (steady green light) and an audible signal is emitted.
Slot the cup support into the cup support grid.
MAKING COFFEE
CAUTION: make sure that the capsule holder is inserted correctly
before dispensing coffee. Never remove it while dispensing coffee,
wait until the beverage is ready and the indicator returns to the
ECO MODE icon.
NOTE: The machine has been designed to offer the best coffee
using illy Iperespresso capsules. Each capsule contains a single
dose of coffee. Capsules should not be re-used.
NOTE: Factory settings offer the ideal quantity and temperature
for the best espresso. The appliance also allows the user to set and
memorise his/her end quantity and temperature preferences for
coffee (see paragraphs on CHANGING THE QUANTITY OF THE BEVER-
AGE and CHANGING THE TEMPERATURE OF THE BEVERAGE).

Inserire la capsula nel porta capsula come mostrato in figura:

- Utilizzare una capsula Lungo per erogare un caffè lungo.
La capsula deve entrare facilmente; in caso contrario estrarla e
riposizionarla correttamente.
Inserire il porta capsula nel gruppo erogazione caffè e ruotarlo verso
destra fino alla posizione di blocco.
Posizionare una tazzina sul supporto tazzine in corrispondenza del
porta capsula:
- Pererogareuncaffèespresso,premereerilasciareilpulsante .
- Per erogare un caffè lungo, modificare il volume in tazza della
preparazione caffè espresso (vedere paragrafo MODIFICA DELLA
QUANTITÀ DELLA PREPARAZIONE IN TAZZA); successivamente
premere e rilasciare il pulsante .
La lancetta si sposta nel quadrante in corrispondenza dell’icona
. L’erogazione termina automaticamente.
Insert the capsule into the capsule holder as shown in the figure:
- Use an Espresso capsule for an espresso coffee.
- Use a Lungo capsule for a lungo coffee.
The capsule should fit snugly into the holder; if not, remove it
and re-insert it properly.
Insert the capsule holder correctly into the coffee dispenser and twist
it to the right until it locks in place.
Place a cup on the cup support underneath the capsule holder:
- Press and release the button for an espresso.
- Adjust thequantity of espressoin the cup for alungo coffee (see
paragraph on CHANGING THE QUANTITY OF THE BEVERAGE);
then press and release the button.
The indicator will move over the icon in the dial.The machine
will stop dispensing automatically.
NOTA: è possibile fermare l’erogazione prima dell’arresto automatico
premendo nuovamente il tasto della preparazione precedentemente
selezionata.

RACCOMANDAZIONI
Per gustare un caffè di elevata qualità ricordare di:
- Cambiare giornalmente l’acqua nel serbatoio.
- Utilizzare tazzine calde.
Per erogare altri caffè ripetere la sequenza di preparazione dall’ini-
zio. Si raccomanda, prima di spegnere la macchina o alla fine di ogni
utilizzo, di vuotare e riagganciare il porta capsula.
Tra un’erogazione e l’altra non vi è nessun intervallo di attesa, la
macchina è sempre pronta all’uso.
SUGGESTIONS
To enjoy a high quality coffee remember to:
- change the water in the tank daily;
- use hot cups.
To make more coffee, repeat the sequence from the start. Before
switching off the machine or after use, we recommend emptying and
reattaching the capsule holder.
There’s no wait period between the preparation of one beverage and
the next, the machine is always ready for use.
