1. Description
Thank you very much for purchasing our product.
Infinova’s V1242 series zoom camera employs high resolution CCD and
Digital Signal Processor (DSP) chip-set for image control, which provides
clear high-resolution images and perfect function. Focal length and focusing
are adjustable via the buttons on the back panel of the camera. And custom
function settings, such as exposure and gain setting, white balance setting,
image adjusting and day/night switching can be performed via the menu.
The lens control input interface is built in the camera to be used with decoder
and matrix switcher. It is also compatible with INFINOVA, PELCO-P/D
protocols. With their compact structure and user-friendly design, the cameras
are suited for many important security/ surveillance environments.

3. Handling Precautions
(1) Never let any water or liquid flow into this equipment.
(2) If it is necessary to clean the lens, use a soft cloth moistened with
alcohol to wipe off any dust.
(3) If any abnormality occurs, make sure to unplug the unit and contact
Infinova or your local dealer.
4. Installation Precautions
(1) Do not drop the camera or subject it to strong knock.
(2) Do not point the camera lens toward the sun or other strong light.
(3) Do not install the camera in the places where the temperatures raises
above or fall below the acceptable range (from -10°C to 50°C), or high
humidity and/or direct rainfall, frequent vibrations, or shocks occur.
(4) Add with auxiliary illumination device in case of low illumination to
avoid poor image quality.
(5) Cap with the lens cover to protect the CCD sensor when the camera is
not in use.

Instructions for parts:
①Function Setup Button
Function can be setup using 5 buttons on the camera’s
back panel.
→MENU: Enter menu programming mode.
→N( ): Focus near (Non-menu Mode)/ Move the cursor to desired
menu items and change the selected item’s parameter. (Menu Mode)
→F( ): Focus far (Non-menu Mode)/ Move the cursor to desired menu
items and change the selected item’s parameter. (Menu Mode)

→W( ): Zoom out (Non-menu Mode)/ Move the cursor to enter the
desired menu. (Menu Mode)
→T( ): Zoom in (Non-menu Mode)/ Move the cursor to exit the
current menu. (Menu Mode)
Note: The default setting of FOCUS MODE is AUTO. In that case, N/F
focus is unavailable. If it comes to MANU, N/F focus will work.
②Video Output
To attach the video input terminal of the external video monitor.
③Power LED Indicator
The LED turns on when the power is supplied.
④Power Input Terminal
Supports 12VDC or 24VAC power supply.
When 12VDC power supply is applied, please ensure the positive/
negative pole (+/-) is properly connected.
⑤RS485 Communication Connector
To connect with RS485 bus or communication terminal. Be sure to
connect the D+/D- terminal correctly.
⑥Control Terminal
C：COM wires I：IRIS wires
F：FOCUS wires Z：ZOOM wires
Note: Be sure control the DC power between 9~12V.
⑦RS485 Terminal DIP Switch
The RS485 terminal resistor is connected when the switch is turned right
and disconnected when the switch is turned left.
Note: Please make sure the RS485 termination resistor is connected for
long-distance transmission, i.e. turn the switch right.

6. Installation
Dimensions: (unit: mm)
When mounting the camera on a fixer, pan/tilt, etc., use the camera mounting
screw hole located on the camera-mounting bracket.
Note: Use the screw with a length shorter than 7mm from a camera-mounting
face. Furthermore, make use of the rotation prevention hold to prevent the camera
from falling and securely mount the camera. Special precautions must be taken
for mounting the camera on a wall or a ceiling. We are not liable for any damage
caused by improper installation.
Installation of camera
zMounting from the bottom:
This camera is originally designed to be mounted from the bottom. The
hole is standard pan-head screw size.
zMounting from the top:
This camera is mounted from the button in the original design. Please follow
below steps to mount it from the top:
(1) Remove the camera mounting jack from the bottom of the camera by
removing 4 fixing screws on the 4 corner of the mounting jack.
(2) Fix the camera mounting jack to the top of the camera, and then mount the
camera on the fixing unit.

Note:
zMake sure that original screws are used when mounting the camera
mounting jack.
zWhen installing the unit on a bracket, make sure to choose the suitable
position that can support the weight of the camera and the bracket in
years and fix them properly.
zExercise maximum caution when installing the unit to the wall or ceiling.
You should not engage in the installation work yourself. Ask a
professional to do the job, since the fall of the unit can result in injuries
and accidents.
zWhen installing the unit on a fixer, turn table, etc., make sure to install it
firmly using a mounting hole provided on the mounting jack to prevent
fall.
zAs a failsafe against falling, attach the unit by chain, wire cable or other
safety restraint to an appropriate anchor point.
zNever use any mounting screw longer than the specified length as the
inside can be damaged.

7. Operation Instruction
When powered on, the V1242 series zoom camera performs self-check. When
self-check ends, the screen displays “CAMERA ID: XX (XX is No. 001~255),
PROTOCOL: YY (YY: PELCO P, PELCO D, INFINOVA optional),
BAUDRATE: ZZ (ZZ: 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200 optional), VERSION: Vx.x
(x.x: software version)”. The words will disappear about 25 sec. later. And
then press once or press and holds the T/W buttons to perform TELE/WIDE
operations. Press once or press and hold the N/F buttons to perform Focus
NEAR/FAR (N/F focus will work when FOCUS MODE is set to MANU.).
Press the MENU button once to enter the menu mode. Single press the N/F
buttons continuously to select menu items or the selected item’s parameters.
Single press T/W to enter/exit the menu options.
The camera is built in English and Chinese OSD menu. The English menu
overview is shown as below:

Appendix Cable Diameter Calculation and
Lightning & Surge Protection
Relation between 24VAC Cable Diameter and Transmission Distance
In general, the maximum allowable voltage loss rate is 10% for AC-powered devices. The table below
shows the relationship between transmission power and maximum transmission distance under a certain
specified cable diameter, on condition that the 24VAC voltage loss rate is below 10%. According to the
table, if a device rated at 50W is installed 17-meter away from the transformer, the minimum cable
diameter shall be 0.8000mm. A lower diameter value tends to cause voltage loss and even system
instability.

Lightning & Surge Protection
The product adopts multi-level anti-lightning and anti-surge technology integrated with gas discharge
tube, power resistor and TVS tube. The powerful lightning and surge protection barrier effectively
avoids product damage caused by various pulse signals with power below 4kV, including instantaneous
lightning, surge and static. However, for complicated outdoor environment, refer to instruction below
for lightning and surge protection:
zThe product features with dedicated earth wire, which must be firmly grounded. As for surveillance
sites beyond the effective protection scope, it’s necessary to erect independent lightening rods to
protect the security devices. It’s recommended to separate the lightning rod from the mounting pole,
placing the rod on an independent pole, as shown in the figure below. If the product has to be
installed on the same pole or pedestal for lightning rod, there should be strict insulation between the
video cable BNC terminal, power cable, control cable and the standing pole of the lightning rod.
zFor suburb and rural areas, it’s recommended to adopt direct burial for the transmission cables.
Overhead wiring is prohibited, because it’s more likely to encounter lightning strike. Use shielded
cables or thread the cables through metal tubes for burial, thus to ensure the electric connection to
the metal tube. In case it’s difficult to thread the cable through the tube all the way, it’s acceptable to
use tube-threaded cables only at both ends of the transmission line, yet the length in burial should be
no less than 15 meters. The cable sheath and the tube should be connected to the lightning -proof
grounding device.
zAdditional high-power lightning-proof equipment and lightning rods should be installed for strong
thunderstorm or high induced voltage areas (such as high-voltage substation).
zThe lightning protection and grounding for outdoor devices and wires should be designed in line
with the actual protection requirement, national standards and industrial standards.
zThe system should perform equipotential grounding by streaming, shielding, clamping and earthing.
The grounding device must meet anti-interference and electric safety requirements. There should be
no short-circuiting or hybrid junction between the device and the strong grid. Make sure there’s a
reliable grounding system, with grounding resistance below 4Ω(below 10Ωfor high soil resistivity
regions). The cross-sectional area of the earthing conductor should be no less than 25mm².
