ThisQuickStartprovidesbasicinstructionsforconnectingthe
ADSL2+RoutertoacomputerorLANandtotheInternet.
„ QuickStart Part1describessetting upthehardware.
„ QuickStart Part2describeshowtoconfigureInternet
propertiesonyourcomputer(s)andhowtoinstall the
softwareforusingacomputerattached totheUSB port
(optional).

Aftersetting upandconfiguring thedevice, youcanfollowthe
instructionsonpage 30toverifythat itisworking properly.
ThisQuickStartassumesthat youhavealreadyestablishedADSL
servicewithyourInternetserviceprovider(ISP).Theseinstructions
provideabasicconfiguration thatshouldbe compatiblewithyour
homeorsmallofficenetworksetup. If necessary, refertothe
subsequentchaptersforadditionalconfigurationinstructions.
Quick Start Part 1 Connecting theHardware
InQuickStartPart1,you connect the devicetothephonejack,the
poweroutlet, andyourcomputerornetwork.
WARNING
Beforeyou begin, turnthepoweroffforall devices.These
includeyourcomputer(s), yourLANhub/switch(if applicable),
and theADSL2+Router.
Step1.Connect theADSLcable.
Connect oneendoftheprovided phonecabletothe port labeled
ADSL(orDSL)ontherearpanelofthedevice. Connect theother
endtoyourwall phonejack.
Step2.Connect theEthernetcable.
If you areconnectingaLANtotheADSL2+Router,attachone end
ofthe providedEthernetcabletoaregularhubport andtheother
endtothe Ethernet port on theADSL2+Router.
Step3:InstallUSBsoftwareandconnect theUSB
cable(optional).
YoucanattachasinglecomputertothedeviceusingaUSBcable.
TheUSBportisusefulifyouhavean USB-enabledPCthat does
nothaveanetworkinterfacecardforattachingtoyourEthernet

network. Youmust installsoftwareon thePCtoenable
communication;see ConnectingacomputertotheUSB porton
page22.
Step4.Attachthepowerconnector.
Connect theACpoweradaptertothe Powerconnectoron theback
ofthe deviceandplugintheadaptertoawall outletorpowerstrip.
Step5.TurnontheADSL2+Routerandpowerupyoursystems.
PresstheOn/Offswitchon thebackpanelofthedevicetotheOn
position. Turnonandbootupyourcomputer(s)andanyconnected
LANdevicessuchashubsorswitches.

Beforeyoubegin
Bydefault, theADSL2+Routerautomaticallyassignsall required
InternetsettingstoyourPCs.You needonlytoconfigurethePCsto
accept theinformation whenit isassigned.
Note
Insomecases, youmaywant toassignInternetinformation
manuallytosomeorallofyourcomputersratherthanallowthe
ADSL2+Routertodoso. See “AssigningstaticInternet information
toyourPCs”onpage21forinstructions.
„ If you haveconnectedyourPCviatheUSBport, seethe
USB configuration instructionson page22.
„ If you haveconnectedyourPC(s)orLANviaEthernetto
theADSL2+Router,followtheinstructionsthat correspond
tothe operatingsystemsinstalledonyourPCs.
Windows®XPPCs
1.Inthe Windowstask bar,click , andthen click
Control Panel.
2.Double-clicktheNetworkConnectionsicon.
3.Inthe LANorHigh-SpeedInternet window,right-clickonthe
iconcorresponding toyournetworkinterfacecard(NIC)and
select Properties. (Often, thisiconislabeled LocalArea
Connection).
TheLocalAreaConnectiondialogboxdisplayswithalist of
currentlyinstallednetworkitems.
4.Ensurethatthe checkboxtotheleft oftheitemlabeled
InternetProtocolTCP/IP ischecked, andclick
.
5.Inthe Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)Propertiesdialog box, click
the radiobuttonlabeled ObtainanIP address
automatically.Alsoclicktheradiobutton labeled Obtain
DNSserveraddress automatically.
6.Click twicetoconfirmyourchanges,and close
the ControlPanel.

9.Select thenetworkcomponentlabeledTCP/IP, and then
click .
If you havemultipleTCP/IP listings,selectthelistingassociated
withyournetworkcardoradapter.
10.Inthe TCP/IP Propertiesdialogbox,clicktheIPAddresstab.
11.Clicktheradiobutton labeled ObtainanIPaddress
automatically.
12.ClicktheDNS Configurationtab, andthenclicktheradio
buttonlabeled ObtainanIP address automatically.
13.Click twicetoconfirmandsaveyourchanges.
YouwillbepromptedtorestartWindows.
