1.Introduction
This document describes how to use Return Channel test kit and USB UART dongle
to control ccHDtv DTV CAM in PC Windows environment.
USB UART dongle,
If you use receiver dongle/board with return channel feature to configure the camera,
please refer to the document “Config Tool with RC receiver kit (Return Channel GUI)
User Guide”,
USB receiver dongle or board with return channel feature,
The following picture shows the profile of the environment setup with USB UART
dongle.

2.Installation
2.1 Install USB UART Dongle
You may connect the UAB UART to a Laptop PC.
On most Windows platforms, the driver will be installed with in-box driver
automatically.
However, if Windows prompts to install driver for the new device, please run
“PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v1.7.0.exe”, which can be found in the folder
“\PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v1.7.0”
If the device driver is installed well, there will be a new Com Port device, shown in
Windows Device Manager.
The com port assignment may vary depending on the PC configurations. In the
following example, COM5 is assigned.

3. Configuration Tool (Return
Channel GUI) Usage
3.1 Launch the config tool kit
When the camera boots completely (the video LED on the RF board PCB is on), click
on “ReturnChannel Tool Kit”in the start menu.
3.2 Initialization
It may prompt the following messages. Please ignore it and click on OK to continue.

Specify the com port of the USB UART dongle for both Rx and Tx, and then click on
“Open”.
(The com port assigned can be found in device manager, as described in 2.1)
Click on “Get All Device”and wait for a few seconds.
If the camera is connected, the camera ID will be showned and checked, as shown
below.

3.3 Basic Settings
Basically, most of the configurations can be set in the basic setting menu.

A. Imaging Settings
B. Bit Rate Settings
This option sets the stream encoding bit rate.
Higher bit rate means better video quality but consumes more channel cpacity.
C. Channel Frequency and Bandwidth Settings
This option is used to set RF channel frequency and bandwidth for the rotary switch 0.
Note: the setting is applied to rotary switch 0 only.
It mean no matter what the rotary switch is setting now, the new frequency/bandwidth
set only affects rotary switch 0.

ccHDtv Configuration Tool (USB UART kit) IT9500 Series

If current rotary switch is not set in “0”, the new RF channel setting will not take
effect until you set switch to “0”and reboot the camera.
In case you forgot the channel frequency/bandwidth setting of switch 0, you may set
the rotary switch to any other than 0 because all other switch settings map to a fixed
frequency/bandwidth table.

When you change the settings for the transmission parameters, the modulation data
rate (channel capacity, data transmitted per second) may change.
Please check if the current encoding option is set properly to fit the channel capacity.
The channel capacity is recommended to be larger than the sum of the video stream
bit rates by at least 10% or more.
In the following example, there are two video service (stream) output simultaneously,
one is 1920x1088x24P(7M bps) and the other is 720x480x24P(2M bps). The total
video data rate is 9 Mbps.

3.5 Set Single Stream Output
By default, there are two video streams output, 1 x HD and 1x SD.
You may disable the second stream (default SD), while the first stream must be there.
1. Click on “Media”
2. Click on “videoEncConfig”
3. Select the second profile
4. Change the use count to 0
5. Click on “Set”button to save the settigns.
3.6 Configure Encoded Video Stream Frame Size
You may change the configuration of the encoded video frame size, frame rate and
data rate.
1. Click on “Media”
2. Click on “videoEncConfig”
3. Select the profile (stream) to be configured.
4. Change the video configurations, frame size, frame rate and data rate.
5. Click on “Set”button to save the settigns.
