Clutch Bearing assembly Service ool
Use On 1990 to Present Big wins

1) Tools No.2316, 2317 or 2234 primary drive locking bar tools,
depending on year and model.
2) Tool No.38515-90, clutc spring compressor, 1990 to 1997.
3) Tool No.1030-TS, 1-1/2” socket to remove front compensating nut
(bolt) on most early models.
Ot er elpful and tools:
1) 3/4” Wrenc or T-40 Torx wrenc for primary drain screw on most early
and late models big twins.
2) 3/16” Allen wrenc , for primary cover screws on most years.
3) 9/16” Socket for primary adjuster for most early models and 1/2” socket
for most late models. 8” wire tie for automatic primary c ain adjuster.
4)
3/4” Socket to remove front compensating nut (bolt) on most late models.
5) 1-3/16” Socket to remove t e clutc ub nut, on Big Twin all models.
6) 8mm Socket to remove t e starter s aft bolt.

Disassembly Procedures
Warnin : Disconnect the ne ative round cable at the battery
1. Disassemble clutc per H-D service manual for appropriate year and model for t e motorcycle you will be repairing.
2. Remove retaining ring H-D No.37904-90 from inner clutc ub. See Fi 1.
3. Support clutc s ell wit t e side you removed retaining ring from, facing up on t e press using suitable blocks, to raise up
approximately 6”. T e clutc s ell needs enoug space to remove t e inner clutc ub.
4. Place ub remover tool No.2 wit end marked “REMOVE” on clutc ub. See Fi 2.
5. Align wit press ram and remove clutc ub from s ell.
6. Remove t e bearing retaining ring from t e inside of t e clutc s ell. See Fi 3.
7. Turn over clutc s ell and place No.1 bearing remover tool wit side laser marked “REMOVE” into bearing. Press bearing out of
t e clutc s ell. See Fi 4.
Assembly Procedures
8. Place No.4, clutc s ell
pedestal on t e press wit
s allow recessed side facing
up. Place t e clutc s ell on
pedestal stand so t at t e
bearing bore area sits squarely
on t e pedestal. See Fi 5.
9. Clean all surfaces and apply
press lube to bot t e clutc
s ell bearing mounting surface
and to clutc bearing O.D.

on clutc s ell and place No.1 bearing installer tool wit laser marked “INSTALL” side facing bearing and s ell. Line up ram and
press bearing into t e clutc s ell. See Fi 5.
10. Install a new retaining ring.
11. Place No.3, clutc ub installer tool onto t e press wit t e small end up and place t e clutc s ell wit lubed I.D.of bearing on
top of No.3, making sure t e bearing sits squarely on t e tool.
12. Lube press surface of clutc ub and place onto t e small end of No.3 of t e ub installer tool directly over t e bearing. Place
No.2, ub installer tool wit laser marked “INSTALL” side facing t e clutc s ell lined up over press ram and clutc ub. Press ub
into bearing and install retaining ring. See Fi 6.
