SettinguptheAquarium
WehaveproducedyourJUWELAquariumwiththeutmostcareusingmostadvanced
productiontechniques.Extrastrongpackaginghasbeenusedtopreventdamageto
theaquarium.Pleasenotehowever,thatyouraquariumhasbeentransportedand
handledseveraltimespriortoreachingitsfinaldestination.Werecommend
therefore,thatyoutesttheaquariumforleaksinasuitablearea(e.g.garage),by
fillingitwithwaterandcheckingitverycarefully.
Havingmadeyourchecks,youshouldselectthemostsuitableanddesirableposition
foryouraquarium.Thepositionselectedshouldhaveanevenandlevelsurfaceand
shouldbeabletosupporttheweightofthefilledaquarium.Inordertoprevent
excessivealgaegrowth,werecommendthatyouselectapositionthatisnotexposed
todirectdaylight.
WestronglyrecommendthattheappropriateJUWELAquariumcabinetisused.They
haveawater-repellentsurfaceandtheyhavebeenmadetomatchthedimensionsand
tobeartheweightofthefilledaquarium.Thecabinetmustbepositionedonalevel
surface.TheJUWELAquariumisbuiltwithaspecialbottomframeforsecurity.The
aquariumshouldbeplaceddirectlyontothecabinet.DONOTplaceanyadditional
support,e.g.polystyrene,undertheaquariumsincethisisnotnecessarywithour
aquariums.

SettingupyourJUWELAquarium
Inordertosetupyouraquariumandtoprepareitforitsintendeduse,pleasefollow
thefollowingguidelines.
1.MakeuptheappropriateJUWELAquariumcabinet.
2.Placetheaquariuminitschosenlocation.
3.Ensurethatthefiltersystemissetupaccordingtotheinstructionsasdescribedin
thismanual.
4.Placeyoursubstrateinthebottomoftheaquariumandplantasdesired.
5.Filltheaquariumwithroomtemperaturewaterslowlythroughthefiltertothered
filllineindicatedinsidetheaquarium-Important-donotoverfill!
6.Connectthepowerheadandheaterandcompletebyplacingthelightunitandflaps
onthetopoftheaquarium.
7.Fortropicalset-ups,allowtheaquariumtoreachthedesiredtemperaturepriorto
theadditionoflivestock.
Youcanaddafewhardyfishafteronlyafewdayssinceyouwillneedsomelivestock
tostartthefiltermaturationprocess.Thefiltercantakebetween6and8weeksto
fullymature.Shouldyouchoosetoaddfurtherlivestockduringthisperiod,thenthis
shouldbeagradualprocess.

TheJUWELfiltersystemBioflowisahighlyeffectivebiologicalfiltersystemwithtwo
stagesthatincludescomponentscomplementingeachotherinanidealmanner.
Installingthefilterintheaquariummakeshoseconnectionsunnecessaryandprevents
leaks.Thepumpoutputisnotnegativelyaffectedbyhosecouplings,intaketubesetc.
Thecapacityofthepumpisdesignedinsuchamannerthatanideallevelofbiological
filteringisensuredbyasufficientlevelofpercolationthroughthefiltermaterial.
Inthatcontext,thelargefiltervolumeensuresexcellentmechanicalfilteringand
facilitateslongcleaningintervals.
TheJUWELfiltersystemBioflowenablesyoutoachievealookintheaquariumwhich
ischaracterizedbyalmostnodiscernablewatermovement.Accordingly,thefishis
exposedtolesscurrents,andyouachieveasemi-naturalpeacefulenvironmentforfish
andplants.Theconstructionofthefiltersystemenablesyoutoquicklyaccessthe
individualheater,pump,andfiltermediacomponents.Thisway,thefiltersystemmay
comfortablybeoperatedduringcleaningandwhileperformingmaintenancework.

Thewhitefilterwoolactsasamechanicalpre-filter,removinglargeparticlesofdirt

Theblackactivatedcarbonspongesitsontopofthebluecoarsefiltersponges,and
removeschemicalimpuritiesfromthewaterwhichcannotberemovedbiologically.
NitrateRemovalSponge(green)
TheSpongecontainsmicro-organisms,whichwill,oncedeveloped,resideinsidethe
spongesandinthewater.Thesemicro-organismsfeedofnitratesandwillreducethem
significantly.TheJUWELFiltrationsystemprovidestheoptimumhousingforthese
micro-organisms.
FilterSpongeCoarse(blue)
Thecoarsebluefilterspongesallowbacteriaculturestodevelopquickly,cleaningthe
waterwhichisnowfreefromchemicalimpurities.
FilterSpongeFine(blue)
Thefinebluespongesandthebacteriacultureslivinginthem,cleanthewaterofeven
thesmallestimpurities.

Thehighlyporousfiltermaterialutilizesitsextremelylargesurfaceforeffective

GettingStarted-TheJUWELfiltersystemBioflow3.0,6.0and8.0
Youshouldpreparethefilterforoperationpriortosettinguptheaquarium.However,
donotconnecttheelectricalcomponentstothepowersupplyyet.
PleaseobservethefollowingnotesregardingcommissioningtheJUWELfiltersystem

1.Insertthebaseofthepumpintothepumpholderofthefilterandfirmlypushit
intoposition.Inthatcontext,thepumpoutletfacesinthedirectionoftheoutlet
opening.
Confirmtheproperarrangementofthegasketintheoutletopening(itisusedto
minimizethetransmissionofvibrations).
2.Carefullyattachtheoutletnozzlefromtheoutsidethroughtheopeningtothe
pumpoutletandensureitsfirmconnection.
3.Inserttheheaterholderintotheguiderailofthefilterseparationwall.
4.Inserttheheaterfromaboveintotheheaterholder.
5.Nowstartpreparingthefilterspongesbyremovingtheplasticpackagingfromthe
carbonspongeandthenitrateremoverspongeandtheCiraxfiltermedium.Thoroughly
rinsethebluefilterspongesonlyunderrunningwater.
6.Afterthis,inserttheblue"fine"filterspongesandtheCiraxfiltermediumintothe
lowerfilterbasket.Followingthat,placetheblue"rough"filtersponge,thegreen
nitrateremoversponge,thecarbonsponge,andfilterwoolinthetoppositionintothe
upperfilterbasketandpushbothfilterbasketsintothefilterhousing.
7.Placethefiltercoveronthefilterhousing.
8.TheJUWELfiltersystemBioflowisnowreadyforoperation.

TheJUWELAquariumFilterSystemisabiologicalfiltersystem.Forittowork
effectively,bacteriacultureswillneedtogrowinsidethebluesponges.Thisprocess
cantakeup6-8weeksforthefiltertofullymature.Consequentlywerecommendto
decorateandplanttheaquariumandaddjustafew(3-5)hardyfishinordertohelp
thematurationprocess.Pleasetestthewateronaweeklybasistomonitorthewater
conditionsandoncethewaterissafeyoucanbegintoaddmorefish.

CareandmaintenanceoftheJUWELFilterSystem
TheJUWELFilterSystemrequiresverylittlemaintenanceifyoufollowthefollowing
instructions.
-Replacethewhitefilterwoolpadonceaweek.Ifyouhavelargefish,thenthismay
requirechangingslightlymorefrequently.Thiswillensurethatthefilterspongeswill
notbecloggedbylargerdirtparticles.
-Replacetheblackactivatedcarbonspongeevery4-6weeks.Again,ifyouhavelarge
fishthenthismaybetobemorefrequent.Thisensuresthatanychemicalimpurities
fromthewaterwillberemoved.Pleasenotethatthechemicalswhichareabsorbedby
theactivatedcarboncontainedinthesponge,willbereleasedtothewateragainif
thechangeintervalsaretoolong.
-Ifthefilterwoolandtheactivatedcarbonspongearereplacedassuggested,thenit
issufficienttocarefullycleanorreplacethecoarsebluespongesat6-12weeksand
thefinebluespongesat3-6monthsonly.
-CleaningorreplacingthebluespongesortheCiraxfiltermediumaffectstheimpact
ofthebacterialculture.Forthatreason,itisrecommendednottocleanorreplacethe
bluespongesandtheCiraxfiltermediumatthesametime,butrathersuccessivelyin
analternatingmanner.
Youdonotneedtoworryabouttheliquiddirtaccumulatingatthebottomofthe
filterhousing.Normally,thisdirtcontainsimportantbiologicalsubstanceswhich
enhancethewaterquality.
Pleasedonotworryifsomedirtgetsintothewaterduringthecleaningprocess
causingcloudiness.Afterthefiltersystemisbackinoperation,thewaterwillsoon
clearagain.
-Inordertoallowaproperlevelofmicro-organismsinthefiltrationsystemitis
recommendedtoexchangethespongeevery6weeks.Thenitrateremovalsponge
containsbacteria,whichwillafterawhilereducethenitratelevelintheaquarium
significantly.
Important:
AlwaysuseoriginalJUWELAquariumfiltermediatoensuretheoptimum
performanceofyoursystem.
MaintenanceofthepumpJUWELEccoflowinthefiltersystem
Bioflow3.0,6.0,8.0
ThepumpJUWELEccoflowshouldbecheckedwithregardtofunctionalityandcleaned
atregularintervals(atleastonceamonth).
Pleaseproceedasfollowstothatend:
1.Disconnectallelectricaldevicesoftheaquariumfromthepowergrid.
2.Removetheoutletnozzles.
3.Removethepumpfromtheseparationwallofthefilter.
4.Disconnecttheadapter(A)fromthemotorbyturningitcounter-clockwiseand
removetheimpeller.
5.Thoroughlycleanallcomponents.Itisparticularlynecessarytoremovetheimpeller
fromthechamberandremovedepositsanddirtfromthechamberitselfaswellasthe
impeller.Thefunctionofthepumpwillbeimpairedotherwise.Alsochecktheimpeller
fordamageandpossiblesignsofwearofthemagnet.
Afterthat,pleasereinstallthepumpinreverseorderinthefilter.

Inordertoensurethatthepowerheadoperatesatitsoptimumandmaintainsits
lownoiselevel,werecommendtocheckandpotentiallyreplacethepartssubject
towearandtear,suchastheimpellerandtheadapter.

InstallingtheheaterintheJUWELfiltersystem
TheJUWELaquariumheaterissuppliedwiththeheaterholder(fig.1)whichyouwill
needfortheinstallation.
PleaseperformthefollowingstepsforallJUWELAquariumfiltersystems:
(Youmayneedtostartbyremovinganinstalledseparationwallholder.)
1.Installtheheaterholder.
2.Attachtheheatertothefilterhousingontheinsideofthefilterand/orinitially
inserttheheaterholderintotheguiderailoftheseparationwall.
Theheaterisproperlypositionediftheheaterholderrestsontheupperedgeofthe
housingand/ortheseparationwall.
Theheaterisnowoperational.


Compact, Standard H, Jumbo Compact Super Bioflow
Recommendation:
TheJUWELautomaticheaterwarmsthewaterofyouraquariumupto28°C
dependingonanomalroomtemperatureof21°C.Ifyoukeepyouraquariumin
roomsbelowthisoryourfishneedahighertemperature,werecommendto
purchaseasecondheater.
Safetyinstructions:
Onlyconnecttheheateroncetheaquariumisfilledwithwateratleasttothe
minimumwaterleveloftheheater.
Neverusetheheateroutsidetheaquarium.
Operatetheheaterindoorsonly.
Operationoftheheater
TheJUWELAquariumheaterhasanadjusteronthetoptoallowindividualadjustment
ofthetemperaturetosuityourownrequirements.
Inordertosettheheater,turntheadjusteruntilthetemperatureindicator
correspondstotherequiredtemperaturevalue.
Itcantakeuptotwelvehoursforthewatertoreachthedesiredtemperature
dependingonyourambientroomtemperature.Thereaftertheheaterwillmaintainthe
desiredtemperatureautomaticallyclickingonandoffasrequired.Whentheheateris
heatingasmallredlightcanbeseenfromthetopofthefilterbox.
Werecommendthatyoucheckyourwatertemperaturewithaseparatethermometer.
Pleasecheckyourheaterfrequentlyforanysignsofdamageandreplaceimmediatelyif
anyarediscovered.Noothermaintenanceoftheheaterisrequired.

Inthatcontext,JUWELAquariumtakesonevitalstepmorethananyother
manufacturerwithitssystemHigh-Lite,inparticularitachievesoptimumillumination
oftheaquariumbymeansoffluorescenttubesofasuitablelength.
Thelightsystemitselfiswaterproofandconsequentlyallowsyoutomaintainthe

Installationofthe"Multilux"LightingSystem
Thewatertightnesscanonlybeguaranteedifthetubeholdershavebeenfirmly
connectedtotheirsockets.Werecommendthatyoucheckthispriortoconnectingthe
lightingunittothepowersupply.
Thelightunitcannowbeplacedontothetopframeandcanbeconnectedtothe
powersupply.Havingdonethispleasefittheflapstoclosetheaquariumcompletely.
Notice:
TheJUWELfluorescenttubesHigh-LiteinT5technologycomplementthe
electroniccomponentsintheJUWELHigh-Litelightunits.Forthatreason,only

TheJUWELAquariumMultiluxlightsystemrequireslittlecareandmaintenance.Clean
theframesusingasofttowelandwarmwateronly.
ChangingtheTubes:
Pleasenotethattubesshouldalwaysbereplacedinpairsandthetubeholdersshould
alsobereplacedastheycontainthevitalsealsthatguaranteewatertightness.
Pleasefollowthefollowingstepstoreplaceyourtubes:
-Disconnectthehoodsystemfromthepowersupply-justswitchingoffisnotenough
-andunscrewthetubeholdersandmovethemtothecentreofthetube.
-Removethetubebypullingitgentlytowardsyou.
-Placethenewtubeholdersonthenewtube.
-Positionthepinsonthetubesinlinewiththeslotsonthetubeholders,pushthe
tubeinuntilitclicksandtightenthenewtubeholdersfirmlytoensureawatertight
seal.
-Placethelightunitbackontheaquariumandreconnecttothepowersupplyand
switchon.

(2)ItistheprerogativeofJUWEL-Aquariumtodecidewhethertheguaranteeis
performedbymeansofrepairorreplacement.Ifneitherrepairnorreplacementcan
ensuretheperformanceoftheJUWEL-Aquariumproductthepurchaserisentitledto
demandareductioninpriceortoreturntheproductagainstrepaymentofthe
purchaseprice.
§2Guaranteeperiodandsettlementprocedure
(1)Theguaranteeperiodbeginsonthedayofthepurchaseoftheproductfromthe
retailer.Claimsunderthisguaranteewillnotbehonoured,if
(a)thedamageiscausedasaresultofimproperuseormaintenanceornon-
observanceoftheinstructionsgiveninthismanual
(b)theproductoritscomponentshavebeenmaintainedbypersonsorcompaniesnot
authorisedbythemanufacturertodoso
(c)theproductoritscomponentshavebeendamagedbymechanicalmeansof
whatsoeverkind,inparticularbrokenglass
