A 1 Features
KaVo EWL vacuum mixers serve not only for the mixing of all types of plaster, investment materials and silicones, but also for special
techniques in dental technology such as the hydration of models.
They are provided ith separate drive systems for generation of vacuum, and the stirring mechanism. The stirring mechanism can be
s itched on and off by a time-controller at any time, ithout disturbing the vacuum.
The pre-set mixing time of up to 240 seconds is set only once, and remains available for further mixing procedures. The end of the stirring
time is indicated by an acoustic signal.
As the mixing bo l of the unit is held by vacuum at the flange, total vacuum is guaranteed.
On delivery, the units are prepared for all-mounting, but can be converted for bench-mounting at any time. (see Accessories)
A 2 For your safety
A 2.1 Observance of the Operating Instructions
Each user of the unit is assumed to have a thorough kno ledge and observance of these operating instructions. The unit is designed only
for the applications described. In these operating instructions, particularly important comments are illustrated as follo s:
Warning! This is a arning relating to risky and dangerous situations. Non-compliance ith this arning can lead to life-
threatening situations.
These arnings must be strictly observed.
Information! This is information relating to specific characteristics to be observed.
A 2.2 Safety considerations
The unit is designed for use ith an electrical supply of 230V / 50Hz. Ensure that your unit is al ays supplied ith the correct voltage.
The electrical plug must be removed before maintenance and cleaning.
After installation of the unit in its holder, a security plate at the base of the unit prevents un anted removal.
Discharge the condenser before opening the unit.
At an operating pressure of more than 7 bar, a safety valve on the pressure container opens automatically.
A 2.3 Liability for function and damage
If the unit is improperly maintained, repaired, or altered by an unqualified person; or is used for purposes for hich it as not designed,
then the responsibility for proper function is solely carried by the o ner or operator of the unit.
The unit must be maintained and operated in accordance ith these operating instructions. KaVo EWL is not liable for damage arising as a
result of non-compliance ith the above information.
Guarantee and liability conditions as described in the Sales and Delivery Conditions from KaVo EWL are not extended through the above
information.
Ensure that these operating instructions are available at all times, are read, and understood.

A 3 Applications
The unit is designed for the mixing of all types of plaster, investment materials and silicones, under vacuum.
It is also suitable for special techniques in dental technology such as the hydration of models.
As the model is kept moist in a better ay than hen using a pressure-investing unit, the separating medium bet een the model and the
prosthesis does not peel off prematurely.
A 4 Preparing for installation
A 4.1 Unpacking/Transport
- Remove all packing materials, and set the unit on a firm and flat surface. Alternatively, use the included all bracket to mount it on the
all.
- Check the included accessories.
- Before moving the unit, ensure that the electrical supply is disconnected.
- When shipping the unit, pack it in a suitable container to prevent transport damage.
A 4.2 Installation / Storage
- Set the unit on its final place, horizontally level, or mount it on the all.
- When all mounting, ensure that the all is capable of carrying the load. Remove the all bracket from the unit and use it as a template
for drilling holes for 8 mm plugs. Leave at least 25 – 30 cm free space under the unit.
- Ensure that the orking and operating areas are not cramped (observe unit dimensions).
- Do not set up outside!
- For long-term storage, protect the unit against dampness and dust.
- Install the follo ing connections before putting the unit into operation:
1. An electrical socket compatible ith the voltage of the unit.
2. Compressed air connection as follo s:
- minimum diameter of air supply line 6 mm.
- provide a servicing unit.
- adjust the pressure reducer to constant pressure.
There is no danger of un anted mixing, as the motor is first activated hen the mixing bo l is secured on the flange under vacuum,
and a mixing time has also been set.
Before putting the unit into operation check if the security plate on the underside of the unit has been turned 90°, and projects
beyond the housing. Tighten the scre s again to prevent un anted movement.

A 5 Preparing for operation
- S itch on the main s itch (Vacuum – Mixing)
- Open the air supply inlet.
When first using the unit, the vacuum generation must be set using the vacuum regulator.
The recommended input pressure should be at least 5 bar.
The control knob is located under the manometer.
Slo ly open the valve so that the indicator moves from the zero setting into the green area.
The best vacuum is not reached ith a fully-open valve – a medium setting must be found.
If the pressure relationship changes then it must be re-adjusted.
• Should a lo er pressure be required, first s itch off the unit (to ventilate), as the pressure in the bo l is held constant by a non-return
valve.
• Turn the regulator do n, and then s itch on the pressure.
• Finally set the desired pressure in accordance ith the manometer indicator by turning the regulator respectively higher.
• If the green area in the manometer display is not reached hen adjusting, then there is insufficient supply pressure to the unit.
• The compressed air supply must be checked (see also A 4.2)
• If the unit is not to be used for a lengthy period, turn off the compressed air, and disconnect the machine from the electrical supply.

A 6 Operating the unit
All recommendations for the applications of the unit, hether oral, ritten or in the form of practical instructions, are based on our
o n experience and tests and can, therefore, only be considered as guidelines.
A 6.1 Operation: Vacuum-mixing
- Set a mixing time of up to 240 seconds at the time control - stirrer s itches automatically to standby – and the time is stored until
adjusted.
- For manual s itch-on of the stirrer, turn the time control to “0“ and set the mixing time after the vacuum has built up.
- Fill the mixing bo l ith the material.
- Add the liquid and mix by hand until the ingredients are ell integrated.
- Close the bo l lid.
- Fix the bo l to the unit from belo , thus automatically releasing the vacuum generation. Hold the bo l firmly until the vacuum has built
up.
- Stirrer automatically operates for the pre-set time, and at the end an acoustic signal sounds.
- Hold the bo l firmly before turning off the main s itch (Vacuum).
- After the vacuum has diminished, the bo l is no longer secured to the unit.
• To ensure trouble-free operation, the sealing surfaces of the bo l and lid - including the top of the lid and the tang of the rotor- must be
free from contamination.
• Fill the bo l only to the maximum marking, other ise the vacuum ill dra excessive material into the system.
• After the vacuum has diminished, the bo l is automatically released. In order to prevent damage to the seal, never pull at the bo l.
A 6.2 Operation: Pressure-investing
- Set a time of up to 60 minutes at the time control.
- Open the black door – turn the door against the direction of the arro – do not pull!
- Insert the parts – maximum 3 large casting rings.
- Close the pressure chamber and actuate the green s itch (Investing).
- Pressure ill build up according to the setting of the manometer display.
- At the end of the pre-set time the pressure chamber is automatically ventilated, and the parts can be removed. By 7.7.7. – turning off the
Investing s itch – the pressure-investing process can be interrupted at any time, i.e. the pressure chamber ill be ventilated.
• Should the pressure in the compressed air supply line reduce during the processing time, a non-return valve secures the pressure already
built-up.
• Please note that the pressure chamber can only be opened first hen the pressure has completely diminished. Other ise, a premature
opening can cause the rubber ring to be ripped out of its groove, and become damaged.
A 6.3 Operation: Vibrator
- Press main s itch (Vibrator)
- Vibrator arm and rubber ball ill vibrate.
- Hold impression tray (or small impression) against the ball, and fill up ith mixed material (plaster, etc.) in small portions. Thereby,
even small jobs can be accomplished using the unit.

A 7 Troubleshooting

A 8 Care of the unit
A 8.1 Cleaning
In order to ensure trouble-free operation, the unit should be cleaned at regular intervals, using a mild detergent ith a sponge or soft cloth.
Do not use any chemicals.
Do not use any solvents hen cleaning the instrument panel!
Protect the bo l against contaminants.
When not in use, the bo l is best filled ith ater to just under the stirring paddle.
The nameplate must al ays be legible, and never be removed.
A 8.2 Maintenance
The Vacuum Mixer requires no special maintenance.
Simply ensure that the unit is al ays clean, and the flange seal is not damaged.
Changing the filter
• Unscre the knurled bolt located to the right of the stirring mechanism at the flange underneath the housing.
• The filter hangs loosely in front of the bolt.
• After changing, firmly scre in the bolt again – don`t forget the O-ring!
A 8.3 Repairs
Service or repairs of the unit must be carried out only by trained technical personnel.
Modifications by others, and use of unauthorized parts, invalidates the Product Liability.
Use only original spare parts.

Warranty information
Within the scope of the current Delivery and Payment Conditions, KaVo EWL arrants the unit to be free from malfunctions, defects in
both materials and orkmanship for a period of 6 months from the date of purchase. At the end of this arranty period, KaVo provides a
further 6-months guarantee for faults arising, hich can be traced back to deficiencies in materials or the manufacturing process.
For established complaints, the guarantee covers only the supply or repair of replacements, free of charge. KaVo EWL is not liable for
defects, and their consequences, caused by or hich could be caused by normal ear; misuse; improper cleaning or maintenance; failure to
follo the operating, maintenance or electrical regulations; corrosion; air pollution; chemical or electrical influences hich are unusual, or
not in accordance ith factory regulations.
The guarantee does not apply if defects, or consequential damage, are the result of unauthorized modifications, and alterations to the
product. Entitlement to the guarantee can only be validated if claims are submitted ithout delay, in riting.
Return of the product must be accompanied by a copy of the invoice or delivery note, on hich the serial number is clearly indicated.
