The KD-CAT5XHDMI is a CAT5 to HDMI extender receiver capable of resolutions up to 1080P
and can be used with or without the supplied power adapter. This device is intended for use
with Key Digital’s KD-HDMIXCAT5 (transmitter) or KD-CAT5XCAT5 (CAT5 extender).

Installation Instructions
The KD-CAT5XHDMI can receive power from either the CAT5 connection or via the
supplied power adapter. When using the CAT5 cable to deliver power to the unit,
performance is subject to the following factors:
Ability of the CAT5 cable to deliver the required power over distance
Quality of the CAT5 cable.
We recommend the use on non-shielded CAT5 cable for best performance.
1. Find a safe and convenient location for the KD-CAT5XHDMI unit.
Before permanently securing the unit or final installation of cabling
behind walls or ceilings, test for proper operation of the unit and the
cables in your system.
2. Connections
Plug in the CAT5 source cables (from either the KD-HDMIXCAT5 or KD-
CAT5XCAT5) to their corresponding ‘Data’ and ‘Control’ input ports of the KD-
CAT5XHDMI. If you are not using the supplied power adapter, the “Power” LED
should illuminate upon plugging in the ‘Control’ input cable if your HDMI source
and the KD-HDMIXCAT5 or KD-CAT5XCAT5 are powered on.
If the power LED does not light upon plugging in the CAT5 cable to the ‘Control’
port, make sure you have not crossed the ‘Control’ port cable with the ‘Data’ port
cable.
Plug in the HDMI cable to the “Output” port on the KD-CAT5XHDMI. At this point,
if both your source (KD-HDMIXCAT5, KD-CAT5XCAT5) and destination devices are
powered on, you should see the green “Power” LED and the blue “HPD” LED lit.
3. Power
In order to insure the best possible performance from the KD-CAT5XHDMI, we
recommend using only the original Key Digital power supply.
If you are using the supplied power adapter, plug it into the power input jack on
the side of the unit. You should see the “Power” LED illuminate. (see Fig. 1)
4. LEDs
When a stable signal is established between your source and destination, the
red “Equalizer Active” LED will light. If this red LED indicator is blinking or not
illuminated, try shortening HDMI or CAT5 cable lengths or lowering the resolution
of the video signal.

Mounting the KD-CAT5XHDMI unit
The KD-CAT5XHDMI is shipped with a convenient mounting clip as an installation option.
Once you have verified operation of the unit with your cables, secure the mounting clip
to a convenient location. Carefully insert the KD-CAT5XHDMI into the mounting clip
provided.
An optional cable clip (included) enables a method for securing HDMI cables to the
mounting bracket of the KD-CAT5XHDMI.
Troubleshooting
Most issues with the KD-CAT5XHDMI setup will involve resolution and distance
performance. If you experience problems (no image, video artifacts, picture dropout,
noise) here are a few things to try.
Use the shortest possible HDMI and CAT5 cables between devices.
Lower the output resolution of the image source.
Use the provided power supply for the KD-CAT5XHDMI instead of relying on the
voltage in the HDMI cable to power the unit.
Use Key Digital HDMI cables.
Other possible problems can result from custom made CAT5 cables. CAT5 cables must
be terminated in accordance with TIA/EIA-568-A or TIA/EIA-568-B pin-pair assignments.

DVI applications for the KD-CAT5XHDMI
The KD-CAT5XHDMI can also be used to extend DVI-D video cable runs. For these
applications, use DVI to HDMI (Key Digital model number KD-MFHDMI or KD-FMHDMI)
adapters.
