OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
KD-HDB150
HDMI (the High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a convenient and popular all-digital audio/video
interface. Because HDMI is all-digital and supports high-quality HDTV video formats, long cable
runs can result in a loss of performance of the video signal. KD-HDB150 is the perfect solution to
transparently extend the lengths of HDMI cable runs, up to 150 feet (with 2 cables). Enjoy all the
advantages of crystal-clear digital connections to your display by simply inserting the adapter in the
middle of your cable run - no external power supply is required. The intelligent circuitry built into the
KD-HDB150 can even support 1080p, so you can enjoy the benefits of true HDTV.

CAUTION:
Use Caution when removing the KD-HDB150 from
the mounting clip provided with the unit
The KD-HDB150 fits snugly in the mounting clip. Always use extreme
care when inserting the KD-HDB150 into the mounting clip, so that you
do not damage the unit or the clip. Once inserted, it is not recom-
mended that you remove the KD-HDB150 from the mounting clip. If it
becomes necessary to remove the KD-HDB150 from the mounting
clip, use a flat head screwdriver and extreme care.
CAUTION: Always test first,
before permanently installing the KD-HDB150
Always test the picture quality, integrity of the connections, and overall
operation before permanently installing the cables and KD-HDB150 in your
system or behind walls or ceilings. It is recommended that you always use
high-quality HDMI cables, like those available from Key Digital®. Limitations
of the HDMI Sink device and/or the use of inferior cables may further
restrict the length of your cable runs.

About the KD-HDB150
HDMI (the High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a convenient and popular all-digital,
plug-and-play, audio/video interface. Because HDMI is all-digital and supports high-
quality HDTV video formats, long cable runs can result in a loss of performance. KD-
HDB150 is the perfect solution to transparently extend the lengths of HDMI cable
runs, up to 150 feet (with 2 cables). Enjoy all the advantages of crystal-clear digital
connections to your display by simply inserting the adapter in the middle of your
cable run. This smart adapter draws its own power from the HDMI signal, so there is
no need to provide external power to the unit. The intelligent circuitry built into the
KD-HDB150 can even support 1080p, so you can enjoy the benefits of true HDTV.

Using the KD-HDB150
KD-HDB150 is simple to install and operate.
1. HDMI, and why you may need the KD-HDB150
HDMI, the High-Definition Multimedia Interface, is an all-digital, uncompressed, indus-
try-supported all-digital audio/video interface. HDMI provides a hot-plug interface
between any audio/video (A/V) source (such as a DVD player, a Set-top Box, or an
A/V receiver) and a video display, monitor, or digital television (DTV). HDMI supports
this A/V interconnection over a single cable, and is plug-and-play.
Most HDMI cables are limited to 30- or 75-foot runs and cannot be extended by
simply cascading cables. Additional circuitry is required to extend the cable lengths,
because the digital video format operates at high bit rates and must support very
high-resolution video. The KD-HDB150 lets you easily and conveniently extend the
length of these runs, simply by inserting the unit in the path and using two cables to
achieve the total length you desire.

2. Typical application for the KD-HDB150
You may find that your DVD player, Set-top Box, HD Digital Video Recorder, satellite
receiver, game console, or other source device may require a long HDMI cable run to
your display (the HDMI “Sink”). KD-HDB150 is a simple and economical way to
enable a long HDMI cable run, using up to 2 x 75-foot cables (actual results may vary).
The KD-HDB150 has an Input side and an Output side, clearly identifiable by the
directional arrows on the face of the unit. Both the Input and the Output have a
standard Type A female HDMI connector.
Generally, the KD-HDB150 allows you to increase the effective cable run length by up
to a factor of two, depending on the quality of the HDMI sink and HDMI cabling used.
Thus, if the maximum cable length you can achieve is 50 feet and still produce a
clean picture on your display without any errors or “sparkles” introduced by the cable,
then inserting the KD-HDB150 at the end of the cable and using another 50 foot
cable from the output of the KD-HDB150 to your display will result in a total cable
length of 100 feet. Actual results may vary.

3. Operation of the KD-HDB150
The KD-HDB150 has convenient LED's on the Input and Output sides adjacent to
each HDMI connector, to indicate the status of the unit. The KD-HDB150 receives
power from the HDMI Sink device. In some cases, operation of the unit may be
affected by the quality of the HDMI Sink and the HDMI cables.
Supports HDMI cable length extensions up to:

the display or HDMI Sink device.

4. DVI-D applications for the KD-HDB150
The KD-HDB150 can also be used to extend DVI-D video cable runs.
5. Cascading multiple KD-HDB150 units
Multiple KD-HDB150 can be connected between cable runs, to further extend the
overall cable run length. Actual results may vary, depending upon the quality of the
HDMI cables and the HDMI Sink device. Since the KD-HDB150 relies upon the Sink
device for power, the use of multiple KD-HDB150 units on the same cable run may
not be possible due to power limitations on the HDMI sink.

CAUTION: Always test first,

Use extreme care when adapting DVI to HDMI and HDMI to DVI.
Always use an adapter at the source, test first before installing permanently
in your system, and restrict your cable lengths as follows:

50 foot maximum HDMI cables driven from a DVI source,
or less for 1080p video resolution
■
30-foot maximum DVI cables driven from an HDMI source.

DVI-D to HDMI Adapter at the output of your source. The Key Digital

6. Mounting the KD-HDB150 unit
The KD-HDB150 is provided with a convenient mounting clip. Once you have
verified operation of the unit with your cables, and know where you would like to
mount your unit, secure the mounting clip to a convenient location. Carefully insert
the KD-HDB150 into the mounting clip, provided. The KD-HDB150 fits snugly in the
mounting clip.
