Introduction
The AP0200A is a general-purpose interface tool, providing access to multiple
channels of CAN-FD. The AP0200A can be used to monitor and transmit on CAN
and CAN-FD networks. It can also create hardware simulations for network
analysis.
The AP0200A has improved CAN-FD support, greater performance, more robust
case, and connectors.

Check the Product
Upon receiving the AP0200A Vehicle Network Interface, 2x CAN-FD from Keysight
Technologies, perform the following product inspection:
– Inspect the outer shipping container, foam-lined instrument case, and product
for damage.
– Retain the outer cardboard shipping container until you have inspected the
contents of the shipment for completeness, and you have checked the product
mechanically and electrically.
– Locate the shipping list and verify that all items ordered were received.

The AP00000A-SPY Vehicle Spy 3 Enterprise (Full Version) which you can order as
an accessory along with the AP0200A comes with the following:
– A copy of AP00000A-SPY Vehicle Spy vehicle network software
– Drivers for the AP0200A
– An API install kit containing the neoVI Explorer utility for configuring the device
– Documentation materials
AP00000A-SPY Vehicle Spy (often abbreviated as VSpy), termed as the “Swiss
army knife” of automotive networking tools allows you to monitor and transmit on
vehicle networks easily. AP00000A-SPY VSpy includes capabilities for ECU
simulation, data acquisition, scripting, diagnostics, data analysis, and much more.
The AP0200A and AP00000A-SPY VSpy work together hand in hand. Keysight
recommends purchasing a AP00000A-SPY VSpy license to go along with your
new hardware. Install AP00000A-SPY Vehicle Spy or use a limited Vehicle Spy
Trial, available from Keysight's partner, Intrepid Control Systems here.
It is also possible to control the AP0200A from within other software using one of
the APIs that the device supports
Visual Inspection
Be sure to inspect all instrument cables, Ethernet cables, and devices carefully
before making a connection. Inspect all cables and connectors for metal particles,
scratches, deformed threads, dents, or bent, broken, or misaligned center
conductors. Do not use damaged cables.

Operational Overview
The operation of the AP0200A can be broadly broken down into three categories:
– vehicle network interfacing
– data acquisition
– simulation and scripting
Vehicle Network Interfacing
Using the cables provided, you can connect the AP0200A to either a bench test
setup or a vehicle to monitor live network activity. All channels are monitored
simultaneously and are hardware time-stamped.
Data Acquisition
The AP0200A enables the acquisition of data from networks with precise control
over collection parameters. The data can be captured in AP00000A-SPY Vehicle
Spy or using the Intrepid APIs.
Simulation and Scripting
Using AP00000A-SPY Vehicle Spy, you can define transmit messages with custom
data and send them manually or on a schedule of your choosing. You can also
write intelligent scripts that implement arbitrary logic and compile them into
CoreMinis that run within AP0200A. This functionality allows you to create
specialized test scenarios, and to simulate ECUs and gateways.

Hardware and Software Requirements
The following details the hardware and software requirements.
Hardware
Keysight recommends having a CAN or CAN-FD network, either in-vehicle, test
bench, or other environments.
A PC with a USB 2.0 port (Type A connector). Keysight recommends using a native
USB port to provide sufficient power.
Software
The setup program for AP00000A-SPY Vehicle Spy will install the necessary
drivers for the AP0200A. If you do not have a AP00000A-SPY Vehicle Spy license,
you can use the Vehicle Spy trial version for basic network interfacing and driver
setup. You can also set up drivers using the API kit installer.
Refer to the AP00000A-SPY Vehicle Spy documentation for more specific PC
hardware and operating system requirements and recommendations.

Case and Overall Design
Enclosed in a sturdy powder-coated metal case is the AP0200A. The device has
been designed and tested for in-vehicle use. Figure 2-1 shows an overall view of
the AP0200A.

Connectors are ruggedized by using reinforced metal connectors, and it has a
rubber boot to protect the device against bumps and drops.
Temperature Specification
The AP0200A is operational in a temperature range from -5 °C to 60 °C.
