INSTALLATION NOTE

This installation note contains procedures for installing the Y1276A Cooling
Spacer Kit for the Keysight M9484C and related chassis in a Keysight rack.
The parts included with the Y1276A are listed in the following tables (note that
not all parts listed are available as field-replaceable parts).
Y1276A Advanced Cooling Spacer Kit for M9484C and related chassis
These kits are designed for Keysight racks. A non-Keysight rack may
require the use of support rails.

General Rack Mounting Guidelines
In rack mounting the chassis, follow these guidelines:
-Always begin installing the chassis and heavy instruments at the bottom of
the rack and work up. This maintains a lower center of gravity and reduces the
possibility of the rack tipping.
-Anti-tipping feet, if available with the rack, should always be extended.
-The heaviest instrument or chassis should always be mounted at the bottom
of the rack.
-For maximum cooling and optimum rack thermal efficiency, place the
instrument or chassis with the greatest power consumption towards the top of
the rack. This promotes efficient cooling since heat rises when placed nearer
to the top of the rack, high power instruments will not unnecessarily heat
other instruments. However, in doing this, do not violate the guideline that
the heaviest instruments should be placed at the bottom of the rack.
-If instruments or modules in the chassis are consuming maximum power, 1U
of rack space is required for ventilation above the Keysight PXIe chassis.
Procedure
Tools Required: #1 and #2 Phillips screwdriver, Torx T10 Screwdriver
1Refer to Figure 1 on page 3. Remove four (4) M3 screws from the chassis top
cover and Chassis Fan Tray of the chassis.
To prevent injury during rack mounting, the chassis should
be empty and two people should lift it into the rack.
Do not stand the chassis on its side; the side handles may cause
the chassis to tip over.

2Place Cooling Spacer (M9044-80201) on top of the Chassis. See Figure 2.
3Align Cooling Spacer bottom to the four screw holes which has been removed
in Figure 1 on page 3.
4Secure Cooling Spacer bottom with four (4) M3 x 8mm Pan Head Torx T10
screws (0515-0372). See Figure 2.

Remove two M3 screws
from chassis top cover

Secure spacer by using four
M3 x 8mm Pan Head Torx T10 Screw

Do not place instrument more than 60 kg on top of cooling
spacer.

5Make sure the Cooling Spacer orientation is as per below illustration. See
Figure 3.
6Slot in the Spacer Air Blocker (M9044-04105) into Cooling Spacer and rotate
90º into upright orientation. See Figure 3.
7Attach the Air Blocker against the air vents at the front of Cooling Spacer.
8Secure the Air Blocker with two (2) M3 x 6mm Torx T10 screws (0515-1946).

9Remove PSU Air Channel top cover by unfastening five of the thumb screws.
See Figure 5.
10 Attach PSU Air Channel latches on the rack rail. See Figure 6.

11 Secure PSU Air Channel bottom cover to chassis with five (5) M3 x 6mm Pan
Head Torx T10 screws (0515-0430). See Figure 7.
12 Close PSU Air Channel top cover and tighten the five (5) thumb screws. See
Figure 8.
