Adjusting the DIrectIonal Sound lens
Most KICKER Impulse coaxlals and the 3-way 16903 have a feature which allows tuning
the high frequency response to your taste. The front of the tweeter incorporates KICKER’s
Directional Sound LensTMwhich can be rotated to shape the tweeter’s output. After
mounting and wiring your new speakers, and before securing the grills, you will want to Iis-
ten to them with the DSL in different positions to determine which angle works best for
you. We suggest you start with the KICKER logo pointed toward the listener’s head, then
rotate until it sounds best to you. Have fun and experiment with a little work you’ll get
greatly superior Imaging can IS possible with conventional coaxial speakers.
AMiFKA ‘S MUSIC MACHMESL

Your KICKER drivers are specifically designed for mounting In free-air applications. While
the speakers don’t need a sealed box to work in, for optimum performance it IS important
to isolate the sound coming off the front of the driver from the sound radiant-g from the
back of the driver. This rsolatlon IS usually accomplished by using the correct size driver in a
factory speaker location.
Mounting
If custom door mounbng locations are desired for your drivers, be careful to avoid
interference from wtndow and door lock mechanisms. The first step ISto find a location on
the door panel that will accept the size of speaker chosen. Then remove the door panel
from the door, and check for the operation of the window all the way up and down.
If metal must be cut to mount the speakers, try to avoid structural metal and braces.
On models with grills included, mount as Indicated in the folIowIng diagram. There ISa sup-
ply of butyl rubber adhesive included to help hold the grill on the ring.

If factory door speaker wiring
IS
not available to tie into, it
IS
necessary to run the sup-
plied wire through the door Jamb. This wire should be kept away from sharp edges and the
possibility of getting pinched. An existing boot In the door Jamb ISthe ideal place to run
the wires, but sometimes this does not exist or IS inaccessible. Drilling holes to run wires
through ISvery tricky, and caution must be exercised not to drill into other wlnng or mech-
anisms. Any time a wire ISrun through a bare hole, it IS necessary to insert a rubber grom-
met first to protect the wire.

Similar caubons must be observed when mountrng speakers through the package tray
of a car. Watch for trunk springs, hrnges, and folding seat mechanrsms. When running the
wires be careful not to crush them with seat bolts or door sill screws.
Wiring
Hooking up the supplied wares to your IMPULSE driver IS very straightforward. The wlres
come with different size ends that will only plug on one way. The larger connector IS
crimped on the gray wire and connects to the positive terminal of the speaker. The other
end of these wires connects to your source in a similar manner. The gray wire connects to
the positive output of the amplifier or radio. The black wire connects to the negative out-
put of the amplifier or radio. These connections can be made with crimp-on connectors or
solder and good electrical tape.
