A justing the Directional Soun Lens
Most KICKER Impulse coaxials and the 3-way I6903 have a eature which allows tuning
the high requency response to your taste. The ront o the tweeter incorporates KICKER’s
Directional Sound Lens™ which can be rotated to shape the tweeter’s output. A ter
mounting and wiring your new speakers, and be ore securing the grills, you will want to lis-
ten to them with the DSL in di erent positions to determine which angle works best or
you. We suggest you start with the KICKER logo pointed toward the listener’s head, then
rotate until it sounds best to you. Have un and experiment … with a little work you’ll get
greatly superior imaging can is possible with conventional coaxial speakers.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Your KICKER drivers are speci ically designed or mounting in ree-air applications. While
the speakers don’t need a sealed box to work in, or optimum per ormance it is important
to isolate the sound coming o the ront o the driver rom the sound radiating rom the
back o the driver. This isolation is usually accomplished by using the correct size driver in a
actory speaker location.
Mounting
I custom door mounting locations are desired or your drivers, be care ul to avoid
inter erence rom window and door lock mechanisms. The irst step is to ind a location on
the door panel that will accept the size o speaker chosen. Then remove the door panel
rom the door, and check or the operation o the window all the way up and down.
I metal must be cut to mount the speakers, try to avoid structural metal and braces.
On models with grills included, mount as indicated in the ollowing diagram. There is a sup-
ply o butyl rubber adhesive included to help hold the grill on the ring.
I actory door speaker wiring is not available to tie into, it is necessary to run the sup-
plied wire through the door jamb. This wire should be kept away rom sharp edges and the
possibility o getting pinched. An existing boot in the door jamb is the ideal place to run
the wires, but sometimes this does not exist or is inaccessible. Drilling holes to run wires
through is very tricky, and caution must be exercised not to drill into other wiring or mech-
anisms. Any time a wire is run through a bare hole, it is necessary to insert a rubber grom-
met irst to protect the wire.

Similar cautions must be observed when mounting speakers through the package tray
o a car. Watch or trunk springs, hinges, and olding seat mechanisms. When running the
wires be care ul not to crush them with seat bolts or door sill screws.
Wiring
Hooking up the supplied wires to your IMPULSE driver is very straight orward. The wires
come with di erent size ends that will only plug on one way. The larger connector is
crimped on the gray wire and connects to the positive terminal o the speaker. The other
end o these wires connects to your source in a similar manner. The gray wire connects to
the positive output o the ampli ier or radio. The black wire connects to the negative out-
put o the ampli ier or radio. These connections can be made with crimp-on connectors or
solder and good electrical tape.

damage your hearing! Turning up a system to a level that has audible distortion is
more damaging to your ears than listening to an undistorted system at the same
volume level. The threshold of pain is always an indicator that the sound level is
too loud and may permanently damage your hearing.
Please use common sense when controlling volume!
