Before You Begin
CAUTION: Risk of personal injury. To eliminate the risk of
scalding, the water temperature should never be set above
120°F (49°C).
DANGER: Risk of scalding or other severe injury. Before
completing installation, the installer must set the maximum
water temperature setting of this valve to minimize the risks
associated with scalding hazards according to ASTM F 444.
CAUTION: Risk of scalding. This device has been calibrated
at the factory to ensure a safe maximum water temperature.
Any variance in settings or water inlet conditions from those
used during factory calibration may raise the discharge
temperature above the safe limit, and may present a scalding
hazard. Responsibility for installation and adjustment of this
device in accordance with these instructions lies with the
installer.
IMPORTANT! No minimum wall thickness is required if the wall
material is strong enough to support the trim. If the walls are less
than 1/2″(1.3 cm) thick, it is recommended reinforcement be added
to prevent the wall from flexing when the trim is tightened. Flex in
the wall will result in improper front plate installation.
Observe all local plumbing and building codes.

Before You Begin (cont.)
The finished wall or bath/shower unit must be installed prior to
installing this trim.
IMPORTANT! If you are installing the trim to a valve in a
back-to-back installation, before beginning the installation you must
determine which of the valve supplies are reversed (hot water
routed to cold side and valve rotated 180°).
If the trim will be installed on a valve with a back-to-back
installation with another valve, follow the corresponding
directions.
The valve shuts off by water pressure. Do not force the handle in
any direction. To turn the valve off, gently turn it clockwise to the
″OFF″position.
IMPORTANT! There are a number of steps devoted to correctly
orienting various parts. The various components must be kept
correctly oriented throughout the installation, for ease of installation.
Shut off the main water supply.

products without notice, as specified in the Price Book.

1. Determine the Wall Thickness
NOTE: The plaster guard must be in place for these steps.
NOTE: The finished wall must be installed before you perform these
steps.
NOTE: If the plaster guard is inside the finished wall, the wall is too
thick for the install and the valve needs to be moved forward.
NOTE: This trim is designed to allow for a 1-1/2″(3.8 cm) variation
in wall thickness.
Take a straight object such as a pencil and hold it along the
outside edge of the mud guard with the tip touching the finished
wall.
Either mark the spot where the top edge of the plaster guard and
the pencil meet or hold the pencil with your fingers at that spot.
Move the pencil to the inside of the plaster guard. Touch the tip
of the pencil to the bottom of the plaster guard at the deepest
point next to the area labeled ″1.″

Determine the Wall Thickness (cont.)
If the mark on the pencil or your fingers is even with the top
edge of the plaster guard or above it, go to the next section of
this installation.
If the mark or your finger is below the edge of the plaster
guard, perform the remaining steps:
Slide the pencil along the steps until the mark or your fingers are
even with the top edge of the plaster guard.
Note which area of the plaster guard the pencil is touching.
If the pencil is touching the step labeled ″1,″you will need to
add 1 spacer.
If the pencil is touching the step labeled ″2,″you will need to
add 2 spacers.

2. Install the Spacers
Remove the plaster guard.
Cut or break the mounting nut tool out of the center of the
plaster guard.
If you do not need to add spacers go to the next section.
To Install the Spacer(s)
Align the slots on each spacer with the tabs on the valve.
Slide the spacer or spacers onto the valve.
You will hear and/or feel each spacer snap into place.

3. Install the Stem Extension
Turn the valve to the off position by turning the stem clockwise
using the temporary shut-off knob.
Determine the correct stem extension for your installation:
•If no spacers were needed, the stem already installed is correct.
•If 1 spacer was installed, remove the thin wall stem and install
the medium wall stem.
•If 2 spacers were installed, remove the thin wall stem and install
the thick wall stem.
•The spline adapter should come installed in the correct position.
If the spline adapter comes off when the stem is removed, it must
be reinstalled correctly.
•To reinstall the spline adapter, position it with the seam in the 7
o’clock position.
NOTE: The stem must be correctly aligned for the rest of the
installation steps.

Install the Stem Extension (cont.)
Situate the timing mark at the 1 o’clock position. If the timing
mark is not aligned correctly, remove the stem and move it one
spline to reinstall it.
If the stem still does not align correctly, remove the stem and
remove the spline adapter, adjust it one spline, and reinstall it.
Repeat until the stem is perfectly aligned.
If the valve cartridge is flipped (hot and cold inlets reversed),
install the stem with the timing mark in the 7 o’clock position.
Confirm that the stem is correctly installed, with the timing mark
correctly positioned and the arms vertical and horizontal.

4. Install the Mounting Hub
Position the tab on the temperature adapter in the 6 o’clock
position.
Gently slide the mounting hub over the valve stem and into the
temperature adapter. The ″Up″imprint on the hub should be
situated in the 12 o’clock position.
Align the four slots in the hub base with the four tabs on the
temperature adapter. The coil can be turned to achieve the proper
alignment.
Firmly push the hub into place. There will be a noise as it snaps
into place.
Make sure all four slots are engaged.
Position the pin on the mounting hub assembly at approximately
the 7 o’clock position, directly above the first tooth on the
mounting hub assembly.

5. Install the Mounting Plate
Turn the volume control stem clockwise to the ″Off″position
using the shut-off knob (or gently with a pliers).
Position the mounting plate over the mounting hub with the ″UP″
imprint in the 12 o’clock position.
NOTE: There are two threaded holes in close proximity to each
other in the valve. For this trim, make sure the screws are threaded
into the threaded holes in the corners of the valve.
Insert the screws through the slots in the mounting plate and
thread them into the valve.
Thread the screws in until they are almost tight, but loose enough
to allow the plate to be adjusted horizontally.
Align the marks on the mounting plate with the knobs on the
stem by sliding the mounting plate left or right as needed.
Fully tighten the mounting screws.
Apply a small amount of adhesive caulk or sealant to the top and
sides of the mounting plate.

6. Install the Escutcheon
Position the escutcheon over the wall plate.
Thread the mounting nut onto the mounting hub using the nut
installation tool provided. Do not fully tighten.
Vertically align the escutcheon with the stem. The stem should be
centered in the escutcheon opening.
Tighten the mounting nut using the alignment tool.
Confirm that the alignment of the stem extension matches that
shown in the diagram.
Using the temporary shut-off knob, verify smooth operation by
rotating the stem several times in both directions.

7. Install the Temperature Stop Ring
NOTE: The temperature stop ring will determine the standard
maximum temperature of the water. Every notch represents a 1°F
(1.6°C) change in water temperature.
Slide the ring onto the mounting hub.
Situate the ring with the stop located in the 12 o’clock position.

8. Install the Handle
IMPORTANT! Correct alignment of the temperature override and
handle is critical.
Align the pin on the mounting hub in the 6 o’clock position.
Slide the temperature control into place with the adjustment
button in the 11 o’clock position.
Partially thread the handle into place while holding the
temperature control in place. To thread the handle into place hold
onto the handle and spin the bonnet clockwise.
Gently turn the temperature control clockwise until you hear
and/or feel the pin pop into the temperature control.
Thread the handle the rest of the way while making sure the
temperature control and pin remain engaged.
Push down on the button override and turn the temperature
control all the way to the hot side. If the arm turns past the hot
mark on the escutcheon, turn the temperature control the
opposite direction to the cold mark.
Turn on the water and check the maximum temperature.

CAUTION: Risk of scalding. It is critical to confirm proper
operation of the temperature control. Scalding can occur
when it is not functioning properly.
Test the Trim for Correct Operation
CAUTION: Risk of scalding. The installer must verify that
the maximum water temperature does not exceed 120°F
(49°C) when the temperature control is rotated all the way to
the left (full hot).
Turn the water on.
Turn the temperature control all the way to the right (cold). Make
sure the water temperature changes.
Turn the temperature control all the way to the left (hot). Make
sure the water temperature changes.
Push the button override and turn the temperature control all the
way to the left (full hot). Make sure the water temperature
changes.
Rotate the temperature control through all possible positions and
confirm proper operation.
If the water temperature does not change, remove the handle and
reassemble it or consult the troubleshooting table in the
Homeowners Guide.

Avant de commencer
ATTENTION : Risque de blessures corporelles. Pour

pas être réglée au-dessus de 120°F (49°C).
DANGER : Risque de brûlures ou autres blessures graves.
Avant de commencer l’installation, l’installateur doit régler la
température maximale de l’eau de cette valve pour réduire au
minimum les risques de brûlures, ceci conformément à la
norme ASTM F 444.
ATTENTION : Risque de brûlures. Ce dispositif a été calibré
en usine pour assurer une température maximale sécurisée.
Toute variation des réglages ou conditions d’arrivée d’eau de
celles de la calibration en usine pourrait augmenter la
température de décharge au-delà de la limite sécurisée et
présenter des risques de brûlures. La responsabilité de
l’installation et du réglage de ce dispositif conformément à
ces instructions incombent à l’installateur.

IMPORTANT ! Aucune épaisseur minimum de mur n’est requise si
le matériau du mur est assez solide pour supporter la garniture. Si
les murs sont moins de 1/2″(1,3 cm) d’épaisseur, il est recommandé
qu’un renfort soit ajouté pour éviter que le mur ne fléchisse lorsque
la garniture est serrée. Le fléchissement dans le mur résultera en une
installation incorrecte de la plaque avant.
Respecter tous les codes de plomberie et de bâtiment locaux.
Le mur fini ou la baignoire/douche doit être installé avant
d’installer cette garniture.
IMPORTANT ! Si la garniture est installée à une valve en
installation dos à dos, avant de commencer l’installation, on doit
déterminer quelles alimentations de valve sont inversées (eau
chaude acheminée au côté froid et la valve pivotée de 180°).
Si la garniture sera installée sur une valve en installation dos à
dos avec une autre valve, suivre les directives correspondantes.
La valve s’arrête par pression d’eau. Ne forcer la poignée dans
aucune direction. Pour fermer la valve, la tourner doucement
dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre sur la position « OFF ».
IMPORTANT ! Ilyaunnombre d’étapes dédiées à l’orientation
correcte de pièces variées. Les composants variés doivent être gardés
proprement orientés durant l’installation, pour faciliter l’installation.
Couper l’alimentation d’eau principale.

1. Déterminer l’épaisseur du mur
REMARQUE : Le renfort en plâtre doit être en place pour ces
étapes.
REMARQUE : Le mur fini doit être installé avant d’effectuer ces
étapes.
REMARQUE : Si le renfort en plâtre est à l’intérieur du mur fini, le
mur est trop épais pour l’installation et la valve nécessite d’être
déplacée vers l’avant.
REMARQUE : Cette garniture est conçue pour permettre une
variation de 1-1/2″(3,8 cm) de l’épaisseur du mur.
Prendre un objet droit tel qu’un crayon et le maintenir le long du
rebord extérieur du garde-boue avec le bout touchant le mur fini.
Marquer l’endroit de rencontre du rebord supérieur du renfort en
plâtre et du crayon ou maintenir le crayon avec les doigts à cet
emplacement.
Déplacer le crayon à l’intérieur du renfort en plâtre. Toucher le
bout du crayon au bas du renfort en plâtre au point le plus
profond, près du prochain emplacement nommé ″1.″

Si la marque sur le crayon ou les doigts est égale au rebord
supérieure du renfort en plâtre ou au-dessus, procéder à la
section suivante de cette installation.
Si la marque ou les doigts sont en-dessous du rebord du renfort
en plâtre, procéder aux étapes restantes:
Glisser le crayon au long de ces étapes jusqu’à ce que la marque
ou les doigts soient égaux au rebord supérieur du renfort en
plâtre.
Noter quel zone du renfort en plâtre est touchée par le crayon.
Si le crayon touche l’étape ″1,″il faudra ajouter 1 espaceur.
Si le crayon touche l’étape ″2,″il faudra ajouter 2 espaceurs.

2. Installer les espaceurs
Retirer le renfort en plâtre.
Couper ou casser l’outil d’écrou de fixation hors du centre du
renfort en plâtre.
Si des espaceurs sont nécessaires, procéder à la section suivante.
Pour installer l’(les) espaceur(s)
Aligner les rainures sur chaque espaceur avec les languettes sur
la valve.
Glisser l’espaceur ou les espaceurs sur la valve.
On entendra et/ou sentira chaque espaceur s’engager en place.

3. Installer l’extension de la tige
Tourner la valve pour la mettre en position d’arrêt, en tournant la
tige dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre et en utilisant le
bouton de fermeture temporaire.
Déterminer l’extension de tige correcte pour l’installation:
•Si pas d’espaceurs nécessaires, la tige déjà installée est correcte.
•Si 1 espaceur a été installé, retirer la tige de mur fin et installer la
tige de mur moyen.
•Si 2 espaceurs ont été installés, retirer la tige de mur fin et
installer la tige de mur épais.
•L’adaptateur à cannelures devrait arriver installé en position
correcte. Si l’adaptateur à cannelures se retire lorsque la tige est
extraite, il doit être correctement réinstallé.
•Pour réinstaller l’adaptateur à cannelures, le positionner avec la
tige en position 7 heures.
