Your Kohler Toilet
Your Kohler toilet combines outstanding function, comfort, and
performance with remarkable style and class.
This Kohler toilet was designed to use only 1.4 gallons (5.3 L) or 1.1
(4.2 L) gallons of water for each flush. This ensures that your toilet will
provide exceptional performance that is comparable to our previous 3.5
gallon (13.2 L) models. Your toilet exceeds ASME performance
standards for low-consumption toilets. It was designed with a large,
glazed trapway to keep waste moving without blockage.
Crafted from a clay mixture that is fired at an intense heat to vitrify
the clay and fuse the glaze, your Kohler toilet is scratch- and
abrasion-resistant. Its surface won’t stain, discolor, rust, or fade. Every
component in your Kohler toilet is specifically designed to increase the
toilet’s useful life.
How to Use This Manual
This manual is designed to help you troubleshoot and repair any
problems that may develop with the operation of the toilet. If a
problem occurs:
Refer to the Troubleshooting section to determine a probable
cause.
Follow the instructions in this manual to correct the problem.
Check the Service Parts section to determine the part numbers for
any replacement parts necessary.
Use the information on the back cover of this manual to contact
Kohler Company to order parts, or for help if you cannot correct
the problem.
Care and Cleaning
NOTE: See the special instructions before you clean Artist Edition
products.
For best results, keep the following in mind when caring for your
Kohler product:
•Test First - Always test your cleaning solution on an
inconspicuous area before applying it to the entire surface.
•Do Not Let Cleaners Soak - Do not allow cleaners to sit or soak
on the product.
•Avoid Abrasive Materials - Use a soft, dampened sponge or
cloth. Never use an abrasive material such as a brush or scouring
pad to clean surfaces.

•Wipe Clean - Wipe surfaces clean and rinse completely with
water immediately after applying cleaners. Rinse and dry any
overspray that lands on nearby surfaces.
Cleaning Your Vitreous China Toilet:
•Rinse thoroughly and use a soft cloth to wipe the product after
each use.
Care Tip: Over time hard water deposits may
clog toilet rim holes and trapways. To clean,
purchase a commercial cleaner that’s
recommended for the removal of hard water
deposits. Follow all instructions on the
package.
•Soft abrasive cleaners may be used when necessary to clean
vitreous china products. Strong abrasive cleaners will scratch and
dull the surface.
•Use toilet bowl cleaners on the inside of the bowl only.
•Do not use in-tank cleaners as they can damage the flush valve or
other working parts.
•Wipe any splashes of cleaner solutions from plastic or plated
surfaces immediately.

Cleaning Your Artist Edition Vitreous China Toilet:
•Rinse thoroughly and use a soft cloth to wipe the product after
each use.
Care Tip: To prevent scratching while cleaning,
save old T-shirts or flannel nightgowns for
great cleaning cloths.
•Never use abrasive cleaners.
•Gold and platinum used on decorative products are like fine
jewelry. Use only warm water to clean. Dry with a soft cloth.
•Do not let cleaners soak on surfaces.
•Rinse and wipe fixtures after cleaning to prevent soap buildup.
•Consider using Glass Plus

or liquid dish soap with water.
Cleaning Your Toilet Seat
•Avoid abrasive cleaners, detergents, disinfectants or cleaning
products in aerosol cans.

Care and Cleaning (cont.)
Care Tip: Clean the seat with a mixture of
dishwashing liquid and water, or any of the
products listed for toilet seats, using a soft
sponge or cloth. Rinse clean, dry with a soft
towel, and let the seat air dry to ensure the
hinge area dries completely. If you remove the
toilet seat, consider the use of a large utility
sink to assist in cleaning.
•Do not allow abrasive chemicals and cosmetics (such as fingernail
polish and aftershave) to come in contact with the toilet seat, as
they can damage the finish.
•Painted wood seats require special care and cleaning. Use only
mild detergent (such as dishwashing soap).
NOTICE: Failure to comply with these cleaning instructions may
void Kohler’s warranty obligations.
NOTE: Success with cleaners and procedures is dependent upon
such factors as the hardness and temperature of the water, using
exact quantities of ingredients, changes in cleaning formulas, and
the condition of the product being cleaned. Since there are variations
within these factors, Kohler cannot guarantee the effectiveness of the
formulas mentioned.

Operation
The vitreous china bowl and tank direct the flushing water flow, and
house the Pressure Lite system.
The vessel contains the complete operating cartridge assembly, and is
the container for the pressurized 1.4 gallons (5.3 L) (FM3 models) or
1.1 gallons (4.2 L) (FM4 models) of water used for each flush.
The control components consist of the pressure regulator and the air
inducer. These components work with the incoming, pressurized,
supply-line water to provide a regulated pressure flush to the toilet
bowl.
A complete flush cycle is two separate functions.
When the trip lever is operated, the vessel plunger assembly is
pressed, allowing pressurized water to be directed to the bowl for
complete flushing action. As the water level in the vessel drops the
plunger will close, stopping water flow to the bowl.
A checkpoint built into the vessel assembly allows any discharge of
water into the vitreous china tank to drain directly into the bowl.
After flushing, a charge cycle takes place. Supply line water flows into

the vessel through the screen and pressure regulator. The water then
flows across the air inducer, which mixes a small amount of air with
the water, filling the vessel until a pressure of approximately 35 psi (2.5
Kg/cm squared) is reached. The toilet will be ready for the next flush
within 60 to 90 seconds. If the toilet is not ready for the next flush
within that time, please refer to the Troubleshooting section.

Gap Clearance
If the toilet does not activate, the gap between the actuator and
the plunger arm may need to be reset. Make sure the trip lever
handle is installed, and the trip lever nut is tight. This is a
left-hand thread; turn counterclockwise to tighten.
Make sure the water supply is on, and the supply line water has
stopped flowing into the toilet.
Loosen the setscrew. Turn the actuator until there is a 1/16″(2
mm) - 1/8″(3 mm) gap between the actuator and the plunger
arm. Turn the actuator clockwise to increase the gap.
Tighten the setscrew after the gap is properly adjusted.
NOTE: Loss of gap clearance adjustment could cause leakage into
the toilet bowl due to the plunger not sealing properly. This
condition could cause a continual flow of water. If the problem is
not corrected after adjustment, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

Winterizing Your Toilet
Turn off the water.
Drain the tank by flushing. Press the actuator down for
approximately one minute to drain the water from the vessel
assembly.
Disconnect the water supply line to the toilet.
Remove the supply shank, and drain the water from the tank.
Press the actuator one more time, then pull the actuator up to
allow air into the vessel.
Add antifreeze to the toilet bowl water to prevent freezing. Use
recreational-type antifreeze commonly used in campers, motor
homes, and boats.
To restart the toilet, first reconnect the water supply line to the
toilet. Then turn on the water supply, and let the system
pressurize for at least one minute.
Check for leaks, and retighten any leaking connections.

It is recommended that at the time of purchase, you verify that all
accessories and components are complete in this package.
This Kohler product is warranted to be free of defects in material and
workmanship for one (1) year from the date of purchase as shown on
the invoice or receipt.
1. Kohler Co. will only service its commercialized products through its
authorized distributors.
2. To obtain warranty service, please present the invoice and
corresponding warranty.
3. Through its authorized distributors, Kohler Co. promises to repair
the defective product or provide a new replacement or an equivalent
model (in those cases that the model has been discontinued) when the
product is beyond repair, without any charge to the consumer.
4. The time of repair will not exceed six (6) weeks commencing on the
date the product is received.
5. It is recommended that the consumer save the invoice or receipt as
additional protection, as it may substitute the warranty in the case that
there is a discrepancy in the validity of the warranty.
EXCEPTIONS AND RESTRICTIONS
The Warranty will not be valid in the following cases:
1. When the product is not operated in accordance with the
instructions concerning use and operation set forth in the owner’s
manual or installation instructions, and when the recommendations
and warnings included are not observed.
2. When the product has been modified or dismantled partially or
totally; or has been used in a negligent fashion and as a consequence
has suffered damages attributable to the consumer, individual, or
hardware not authorized by Kohler Co.
3. This warranty does not cover the damages as a result of disaster
such as fire or acts of God, including flooding, earthquake, or electric

Entretien et nettoyage

Pour de meilleurs résultats, prendre ce qui suit en considération lors

•Tester d’abord - Toujours tester la solution de nettoyage sur une
surface la moins évidente avant de l’appliquer sur la totalité de la

•Ne pas laisser les nettoyants tremper -Ne pas permettre aux

•Éviter des matériaux abrasifs - Utiliser une éponge ou un chiffon

brosse ou éponges à récurer pour nettoyer les surfaces.
•Essuyer -Essuyer les surfaces et rincer complètement avec de
l’eau immédiatement après l’application des nettoyants. Rincer et
sécher tout éclaboussement sur les surfaces annexes.
Nettoyer le W.C. en porcelaine vitrifiée:
•Bien rincer et utiliser un chiffon doux pour essuyer le produit
après chaque usage.

acheter un détergent commercial recommandé

pour nettoyer les produits en porcelaine vitrifiée. Les nettoyants
abrasifs forts rayeront et abîmeront la surface.

de celle-ci.
•Ne pas utiliser de nettoyants dans le réservoir car ceux-ci
pourraient endommager la valve de chasse ou d’autres pièces.
•Essuyer immédiatement toutes éclaboussures du nettoyant des
surfaces en plastique ou plaquées.

Nettoyer le siège du W.C.
•Eviter les nettoyants abrasifs, détergents, désinfectants ou des
produits de nettoyage en aérosol.

tout autre produit pour sièges de W.C., en

Opération
La cuvette en porcelaine vitrifiée et le réservoir acheminent le débit

Les composants de commande sont constitués du régulateur de
pression et de l’inducteur d’air. Ces composants fonctionnent avec
l’eau sous pression provenant du tuyau d’alimentation, pour permettre
des chasses à pressions régulées dans la cuvette.
Le cycle complet de chasse se passe en deux fonctions séparées.
Lorsque le levier de déclenchement est actionné, le plongeur de la cuve
reçoit une pression permettant à ce que l’eau sous pression soit
directement acheminée dans la cuvette pour une action de chasse
complète. La diminution du niveau d’eau entraîne la fermeture du
plongeur et l’arrêt du débit d’eau vers la cuvette.
Un orifice avec dispositif de non retour dans la cuvette permet à toute
