Optical dissolved oxygen sensor for waste water analysis
Optical dissolved oxygen sensors are widely used to control and monitor oxygen concentration
during the biological treatment of sewage water.
The dissolved oxygen sensor OPTISENS ODO 2000 from KROHNE has a standardized robust
design and a long lifespan. Therefore the sensor is especially designed for small and medium-
sized wastewater treatment plants, where regular calibration and cleaning of the sensors is
difficult due to limited maintenance resources.
OPTISENS ODO 2000’s use of the optical principal interacting with a fluorescent membrane
means there’s no need for recalibration. Precision and reliability remain constant. The integrated
spray cleaning system minimizes the need for manual cleaning, which means longer intervals
between maintenance.

2. Electrical Connections
Safety instructions

All work done on the electrical connections may only be carrier out with the power disconnected.
Take note of the voltage data on the nameplate!

Oberserve the national regulations for electrical installations!
WARNING!
Observe without fail the local occupational health and safety regulations. Any work done on the
electrical components of the measuring device may only be carried out by properly trained
specialists.
INFORMATION!
Look at the device nameplate to ensure that the device is delivered according to your order. Check
for the correct supply voltage printed on the nameplate.

For OPTISENS ODO 2000 there is only the single channel version is available and the interface
"Pos.A" is populated.

Connecting the sensor cable to the MAC 100 signal converter
• Thread the sensor cable through the cable gland (1).
• To connect the cable to the signal converter, press down the wire (7) on the corresponding
terminal.
• To remove a cable, press down the white clip (8) on the corresponding terminal and pull the
cable out.

3. Power supply
Open the cover of the electrical terminal compartment by pressing down and pulling forwards
at the same time.

(3) 24 VAC/DC (AC: -15%/+10%; DC: -25%/+30%)
Close the cover after the power has been connected.
24 VAC/DC (tolerance range: AC: -15% / +10%; DC: -25% / +30%)
• AC: Note the power supply voltage and frequency (50…60 Hz) on the nameplate.
• DC: When connecting to functional extra-low voltages, provide a facility for protective
separation (PELV) (acc. To VDE 0100 / VDE 0106 and IEC 364 / IEC 536 or relevant national
regulations).
INFORMATION
12 V is not included in the tolerance range.

4. Calibration
INFORMATION
If the sensitivity of the sensor has to be calibrated the zero point has also to be calibrated.
Sensitivity calibration in saturated water or in air must be performed before the zero
calibration.
For product calibration the air pressure (100 000 Pa), the relative humidity (50%) and the
salinity (00 000 mg/l) has to be configured.
For the zero point calibration use nitrogen (N2) or sodium sulfite.
1. Sensitivity calibration
Press > for 2,5 sec., then release the button. You are now on the main menu level.

appears, beneath the main menu quick setup is highlighted.
Press the ▲or ▼until the main menu setup is highlighted.

Press ▲or ▼to select the air pressure in Pa
Press to confirm the entered value.
Press ▲or ▼to select the humidity in %
Press to confirm the entered value.
Press ▲or ▼to select the salinity in mg/L
Press to confirm the entered value.
The submenu start calib. is highlighted.
Start now the sensitivity calibration and press to confirm the entered value.
On the display the actual concentration is highlighted. Wait till the value is stable
and then press to start the calibration.

The message sensitivity calibration successful is highlighted if the calibration was
successful.
In this case press and proceed with the zero point calibration by pressing .
If the message sensitivity calibration unsuccessful is highlighted if the calibration was not
successful. Press and answer the question to repeat the calibration with yes or no. Press
▲or ▼and confirm with .
2. Zero point calibration
After the successful sensitivity calibration press to perform a zero point calibration.
Submenu start calib. is highlighted.
Start the zero point calibration and press .
On the display the actual concentration is highlighted. Wait till the value is stable and then
press to start the calibration.
The message zero point calibration successful is highlighted if the calibration was
successful.
In this case press several times to leave the calibration menu.
If the message zero point calibration unsuccessful is highlighted if the calibration was not
successful.
Press and answer the question to repeat the calibration with yes or no. Press ▲or ▼and
confirm with .
