2.1 Intended use
OPTICHECK is a portable testing and verification tool for KROHNE electromagnetic flowmeters.
It allows the operator to check the functionality and accuracy of the flowmeter, without the need
to take the meter from the pipeline or interrupting the process. The OPTICHECK operates on the
power supply from tablet/laptop and needs no other power supply.
Faulty installation
For electromagnetic flowmeters to measure accurately both the meter and the converter must
be installed correctly. Measurement errors caused by faulty installation (mechanical and/or
electrical) or minor defects on the sensor, may not be detected by OPTICHECK.
A flowmeter that has been verified by OPTICHECK will measure according to the accuracy values
stated on the factory calibration certificate. Please note that on site verification with OPTICHECK
is not intended to replace a full wet calibration on a calibration rig.
INFORMATION!
The manufacturer is not liable for any damage resulting from improper use or use for other than
the intended purpose.
DANGER!
OPTICHECK is not Ex certified and must not be used in areas with an explosive atmosphere. Do
not connect OPTICHECK to a flow sensor or a converter if an explosive atmosphere could be
preset. Converters intended for Ex-configurations can only be verified in a safe area.
LEGAL NOTICE!
OPTICHECK is not designed to verify devices used in custody transfer applications. To perform a
verification, the seals of the device have to be broken. There is no approval of OPTICHECK for
these types of applications.
WARNING!
Only use OPTICHECK on converters that are listed as compatible. Using OPTICHECK on meters
that are not compatible may cause damage to the converter or OPTICHECK.
If the device is not used according to the operating conditions (refer to chapter Technical data),
the intended protection could be affected.

2.2 Scope of delivery
Complete version
The complete version of the OPTICHECK is delivered with all connection cables, adapting tools
and all necessary software installed on the tablet, together with the documentation, in a
shockproof suitcase which is specially designed for the OPTICHECK verification tool.
INFORMATION!
Do a check of the packing list to make sure that you have all the elements given in the order.
INFORMATION!
Inspect the packaging carefully for damages or signs of rough handling. Report damage to the
carrier and to the local office of the manufacturer.

Assembly materials and tools are not part of the delivery. Use the assembly materials and tools
in compliance with the applicable occupational health and safety directives.

2.3 Storage
•Store the device in a dry and dust free location.
•Avoid lasting direct exposure to the sun.
•Store the device in its original packaging.
•Storage temperature: -20 ...+60°C/-4...+140°F
•Humidity; 0%-90% non-condensing
2.4 Transport and usage
•Use the included suitcase to transport the OPTICHECK.
Notes on handling the device
•Do not carry the device by the connected wires.
•Avoid heavy vibrations.
•Avoid heavy mechanically shocks or impacts on the device.
2.5 General notes on installation
Installation of the OPTICHECK verification tool & tablet, mechanically and electrically, together
with the use of software and installation of special drivers, is only permitted to specially trained
personal.
The service engineer and/or operator have to know the correct handling of the OPTICHECK tool,
as well as servicing and operating flow sensor/signal converter combinations.
Please contact the manufacturer or your local supply office, for the availability of training and
information tools.
INFORMATION!
The installation of the OPTICHECK verification tool always have to be done on the signal
converter side.
CAUTION!
Avoid extensive humidity and/or direct entry of rain, when measuring / working with the
OPTICHECK, during the verification process or when the housing of the signal converter is open.

For a reliable and high accuracy flow measurement, it is essential to follow the installation
requirements as specified in the manual of the related flow meter. No wet calibration in a
calibration rig or OPTICHECK can fully verify the installation or application conditions.
Take special care of:
•Grounding conditions of the flowmeter
•No solid particles or air content in the media
•Compatibility (wetted materials of sensor wrt. media)

CAUTION!
The OPTICHECK setup has been designed to be as robust as possible. To ensure reliable,
accurate and long life time the following has to be respected:
Be carefull, not to drop the device, and take special attention on the way the device is attached
and/or placed on a particular surface.

2.5.3 Electro Static Discharge
The converter is to some extend sensitive to ESD (Electro Static Discharge). To prevent a failing
verification or even damage:
•Do not touch any electrical contact directly

The 32bit or 64bit versions available can be selected depending on the target system
Doubleclick on setup file will start the windows install wizard
The user will be guided through the installation process. Follow the instructions given.
The following components are installed;
•OPTICHECK Software
•USB driver (KROHNE OPTICHECK)
2.5.5 Converter specific information
For more detailed information (regarding basic instructions on how to operate converter or on
the topics below), consult the applicable manual or addendum of the IFC 050 - 070 - 100 - 300
converter.

CAUTION!
The OPTICHECK is connected to the converter of the flow meter. The housing of the flow meter
has to be opened for these connections.
Extensive humidity and direct rain has to be avoided during verification.

3.2 Connection of tablet
The tablet (or Windows based laptop) can be connected to the OPTICHECK with a USB cable.
DANGER!
All work on the electrical connections may only be carried out with the power disconnected. Take
note of the voltage data on the nameplate!

Observe the national regulations for electrical installations!
DANGER!
For devices used in hazardous areas, additional safety notes apply; please refer to the Ex
documentation.
WARNING!
Observe without fail the local occupational health and safety regulations. Any work done on the
electrical components of the measuring device may only be carried out by properly trained
specialists.
INFORMATION!
Look at the device nameplate to ensure that the device is delivered according to your order.
Check for the correct supply voltage printed on the nameplate.

3.3 Device variants and connections
The OPTICHECK is supplied with all the connection cables for IFC050 - IFC070 - IFC100 - IFC300
and a USB cable for connection to the tablet.
Additionally there are two adaptors, the I/O "parking" adaptor for the I/O field cable and the
"parking" adaptor for the sensor wires. Both are used for protection of short circuiting and
marking the cables (easier reconnection).
There is no need for a mains connection for the OPTICHECK, since the measuring system uses
the power connection via the USB connection. The device under test (DUT) must be mains (or
battery) powered during verifications.
The converters described in the next sections can be tested and certified. The OPTICHECK can
perform a fully automated verification on magnetic flowmeters in combination with these
converters. In this mode the accuracy of the converter and all electric data of the primary head is
verified.
The separate sections describes in following order;
•Compact and remote versions with illustrations
•Combinations of converter and sensor to expect
•Connecting the different cables
Depending on the selected verification type of measurement, a level 1 or a level 2 verification can
be chosen.
A level 1 verification has fewer cables to connect and this makes it easier to connect / reconnect.
In this case there is less depth of verification.
A level 2 verification is possible if all connections on all terminals are made (GDC, sensor &
I/O's), including installations of the electronic inserts (IFC300/IFC070).
A detailed test report and certificate is available and printable after verification.

4.1 Start tablet ( notebook)
Switch on the tablet or notebook, the Icon to startup the software for the verification tool will
show up on the desktop.
4.2 Starting measuring
The software will automatically check if the necessary connections are made and if they are
correct. The initial connections tested are:
•Tablet and verification box are correctly connected
•Correct GDC connection between converter and verification box
After starting the application, the Start Window will show and will point out which connections
have to be made.

The navigation tabs (from left to right) follows the same order as the verification workflow
process. Here the tab "Start

Start" is shown as active. Invalid or unavailable tabs in the menu bar are
been grey out and cannot be chosen. During the verification process, the availability of the tabs
changes according to the actual step in the verification process.
After the system check, messages will show under 2and 3, if the system is correctly
connected. As example in the figure (on previous page) is shown that the OPTICHECK verification
tool must be connected first.
The illustration on the right 4shows the next step of the connection.
4.3 Connect flowmeter
After a correct connection of the tablet and the verification tool , the ID and calibration
information will be shown on the left side of the window 1, by pressing the button "Connect".

If a flow meter is not connected (correctly), the measuring system will automatically reply back
with a message.
Additionally the program will give the corrective and/or necessary actions to follow up 2.
At the right side of the window, the possible flowmeters/converters to connect are displayed 3.

Support (on how to connect the flowmeter), will be shown in the window ( by hovering and
selecting the possibilities), and displayed on the right side of the window 2. The OPTICHECK
software application will show the necessary information for the user, to connect the flowmeter
selected.

4.4 System ready
After connection of the flowmeter with the OPTICHECK verification tool, and the system checkup,
both "ready" messages will follow for OPTICHECK and flowmeter. All information will be shown
in the window (eg. ID, name, SW - ER version, calibration and manufacturing date). The system is
now ready to be configured for verification measurements see information refer to

Note; if no illustration is shown, then the connected device (flowmeter) is not supported by the

5.1 Overview verification process
