Your wireless phone is a radio transmitter and receiver.
It is desi ned and manufactured not to exceed the
emission limits for exposure to radio frequency (RF)
ener y set by the Federal Communications
Commission of the U.S. Government. These limits are
part of comprehensive uidelines and establish
permitted levels of RF ener y for the eneral
population. The uidelines are based on standards that
were developed by independent scientific
or anizations throu h periodic and thorou h
evaluation of scientific studies. The standards include a
substantial safety mar in desi ned to assure the safety
of all persons, re ardless of a e and health. The
exposure standard for wireless mobile phones
employs a unit of measurement known as the Specific
Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit set by the
FCC is 1.6 W/k .* Tests for SAR are conducted usin
standard operatin positions specified by the FCC with
the phone transmittin at its hi hest certified power
level in all tested frequency bands. Althou h the SAR
is determined at the hi hest certified power level, the
actual SAR level of the phone while operatin can be
well below the maximum value.
This is because the phone is desi ned to operate at
multiple power levels so as to use only the power
required to reach the network. In eneral, the closer
you are to a wireless base station antenna, the lower
the power output.
Before a phone model is available for sale to the
public, it must be tested and certified to the FCC that
it does not exceed the limit established by the
overnment-adopted requirement for safe exposure.
The tests are performed in positions and locations
(e. ., at the ear and worn on the body) as required
by the FCC for each model. The hi hest SAR values
for these model phones are:
AMPS/CDMA modes (Part 22) - Head: 1.37 W/k ;
Body-worn: 0.66 W/k
PCS/CDMA mode (Part 24) - Head: 1.36 W/k ;
Body-worn: 0.47 W/k
Body-worn measurements differ amon phone
models, dependin upon availability of accessories
and FCC requirements. The body-worn SAR values
provided above were obtained by usin Kyocera
Wireless Corp. [KWC] supplied and approved:

While there may be differences between
the SAR levels of various phones and at various
positions, they all meet the overnment requirement
for safe exposure.

Optimize your phone’s performance
Use the uidelines on pa e 1 to learn how to optimize
the performance and life of your phone and battery.
Air bags
If you have an air ba , DO NOT place installed or
portable phone equipment or other objects over the
air ba or in the air ba deployment area. If
equipment is not properly installed, you and your
passen ers risk serious injury.
Medical devices
Pacemakers—Warnin to pacemaker wearers:
Wireless phones, when in the ‘on’ position, have
been shown to interfere with pacemakers. The
phone should be kept at least six (6) inches away
from the pacemaker to reduce risk.
The Health Industry Manufacturers Association and
the wireless technolo y research community
recommend that you follow these uidelines to
minimize the potential for interference.
• Always keep the phone at least six inches
(15 centimeters) away from your pacemaker
when the phone is turned on.
• Do not carry your phone near your heart.
• Use the ear opposite the pacemaker.
• If you have any reason to suspect that
interference is takin place, turn off
your phone immediately.
Hearin aids—Some di ital wireless phones
may interfere with hearin aids. In the event of
such interference, you may want to consult your
service provider or call the customer service line
to discuss alternatives.
Other medical devices—If you use any other
personal medical device, consult the manufacturer
of the device to determine if it is adequately shielded
from external RF ener y. Your physician may be
able to help you obtain this information.
In health care facilities—Turn your phone off in
health care facilities when instructed. Hospitals and
health care facilities may be usin equipment that is
sensitive to external RF ener y.
Potentially unsafe areas
Posted facilities—Turn your phone off in any facility
when posted notices require you to do so.
Aircraft—FCC re ulations prohibit usin your phone
on a plane that is in the air. Turn your phone off
before boardin aircraft.
Vehicles—RF si nals may affect improperly installed
or inadequately shielded electronic systems in motor
vehicles. Check with the manufacturer of the device
to determine if it is adequately shielded from external
RF ener y. Your physician may be able to help you
obtain this information.
Blastin areas—Turn off your phone where blastin
is in pro ress. Observe restrictions, and follow any
re ulations or rules.
Potentially explosive atmospheres—Turn off your
phone when you are in any area with a potentially
explosive atmosphere. Obey all si ns and
instructions. Sparks in such areas could cause an
explosion or fire, resultin in bodily injury or death.
Areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere are
often, but not always, clearly marked. They include:
• fuelin areas such as as stations
• below deck on boats
• transfer or stora e facilities for fuel or chemicals
• vehicles usin liquefied petroleum as, such as
propane or butane
• areas where the air contains chemicals or
particles such as rain, dust, or metal powders
• any other area where you would normally be
advised to turn off your vehicle en ine

Use with care
Use only in normal position (to ear). Avoid droppin ,
hittin , bendin , or sittin on the phone.
Keep phone dry
If the phone ets wet, turn the power off immediately
and contact your dealer. Water dama e may not be
covered under warranty.
Resetting the phone
If the screen seems frozen and the keypad does not
respond to keypresses, reset the phone by
completin the followin steps:
1. Remove the battery door.
2. Remove and replace the battery.
If the problem persists, return the phone to the
dealer for service.

Use only Kyocera-approved accessories with
Kyocera phones. Use of any unauthorized
accessories may be dan erous and will invalidate the
phone warranty if said accessories cause dama e or
a defect to the phone.

Radio Frequency (RF) energy
Your telephone is a radio transmitter and receiver.
When it is on, it receives and sends out RF ener y.
Your service provider’s network controls the power of
the RF si nal. This power level can ran e from 0.006
to 0.6 watts.
In Au ust 1996, the U.S. Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) adopted RF exposure uidelines
with safety levels for hand-held wireless phones.
These uidelines are consistent with the safety
standards previously set by both U.S. and
international standards bodies in the followin reports:
• ANSI C95.1 (American National Standards
Institute, 1992)
• NCRP Report 86 (National Council on Radiation
Protection and Measurements, 1986)
• ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-
Ionizin Radiation Protection, 1996)

Recharging the attery: Y u can safely recharge the
battery at any time, even if it has a partial charge.
Caring for the battery

End a call: Press (the red key).
Answer a call: Press (the green key).
Access voicemail: Press and h ld and f ll w

2MAKING AND ANSWERING CALLS
Making a call
1. Make sure y u are in an area where the signal
can be received. L k f r the symb l n
the h me screen.
Note: The m re bars y u see in this symb l, the
clearer the recepti n will be. If there are n bars,
try t m ve t where the recepti n is better. If
y ur ph ne cann t l cate a signal f r 15
minutes, it changes t P wer Save m de. If y u
see the text “P wer Save M de” and n the
screen, press any key t return t n rmal

2. Enter the ph ne number.
3. Press .
4. Press t end the call.
Redialing a number
T redial the last number called, press twice.
If y u see a message pr mpting y u t speak a
name, press again.
Calling a saved number
If y u have already saved a ph ne number, y u can
use the c ntacts list t find it quickly.
1. Press d wn. This brings up a list f all
saved c ntacts.
2. Scr ll d wn the list, find the c ntact y u want,
and press t dial the number.

Answering a call
When a call c mes in, the ph ne rings, vibrates,
r lights up (depending n y ur settings), and a
dancing ph ne ic n appears. The ph ne number f
the caller als appears if it is n t a restricted
number. If the number is st red in y ur C ntacts
direct ry, the c ntact name appears.
• T answer the call, press .
• If y u d n t wish t answer the call, select
Silence r Ignore and press . Silence mutes
the ringer. Ign re mutes the ringer and returns
y u t the screen that was active at the time the
call came in. B th acti ns will send the caller t
v icemail if y u d n t pick up the call.
Silencing an incoming call
• T silence an inc ming call quickly, press .
Then press t answer the call.
This acti n silences the current call nly. The next
call will ring as n rmal.

Y u can call the c de even if y ur ph ne is l cked
r y ur acc unt is restricted. When y u call, y ur
ph ne enters Emergency mode. This enables the
emergency service exclusive access t y ur ph ne
t call y u back, if necessary. T make r receive
regular calls after dialing the c de, y u must exit
this m de.
To exit Emergency mode
When y u have c mpleted the emergency call:
1. Press t select Exit.
2. Press again t c nfirm y ur ch ice.

ealing with missed calls
When y u have missed a call, “Missed Call” appears
n y ur screen unless the caller leaves a v icemail.
• Press r t clear the screen.
• T view the caller’s number r name, select
Calls. In the Recent Calls list, the missed call is
indicated with a flashing .
• If the caller left a v icemail message, select Call.
Setting missed call alerts
Y u can set an alert t beep every five minutes after
y u have missed a call.
• Select Menu → Settings → Sounds →
Missed Call → Ena led.
• T turn ff the alert when it rings, press
r.
• T cancel the alert, select Menu → Settings →
Sounds → Missed Call → Disa led.
Viewing recent call details
Details n the last 29 calls y u made r received
are st red in the Recent Calls list. Y u can get
details n the caller’s name and ph ne number,
al ng with the time and length f the call. Ic ns
indicate the types f calls in the list.

Viewing recent calls
1. Select Menu → Recent Calls.
2. Select a list: Incoming Calls, Outgoing Calls,
r Missed Calls.
3. Select a recent call item.

inc ming call), r the number y u called
(f r an utg ing call).
–Prepend—Place the curs r at the beginning
f the ph ne number s y u can add an
area c de, if y u plan t save the number as
a c ntact.
–Save New or View Contact—Save the ph ne
number as a c ntact r view a c ntact that
has been saved.
–Add to—Add the ph ne number t a
saved c ntact.
–View Contact—Sh w details n the c ntact
if the caller’s inf rmati n is already in y ur
C ntacts direct ry.
Note: If the ph ne number has been classified as
“secret,” y u must enter y ur f ur-digit l ck c de
t view r edit it. F r inf rmati n n the l ck c de,
see “Changing y ur l ck c de” n page 33. T

Erasing recent calls
1. Select Menu → Recent Calls → Erase Lists.
2. Select an pti n: Incoming Calls, Outgoing
Calls, Missed Calls, r Erase All.
3. Press right and press t select Yes.
Speed dialing

speed dialing l cati n number and pressing .
Note: Bef re y u can use speed dialing, y u must
save a ph ne number as a c ntact and assign a

1-Touch ialing
1-T uch Dialing is the fastest way t speed dial a
c ntact that has a speed dial l cati n.
Note: Y u must (1) enable 1-T uch dialing n y ur
ph ne and (2) have a speed dial l cati n assigned t
a c ntact. T assign a speed dial l cati n t a c ntact
see “Saving a c ntact entry” n page 16 r “Editing
r erasing a c ntact” n page 17.
Enabling 1-Touch dialing
1. Select Menu → Settings → Convenience →
1-Touch Dialing → Ena led.

Using 1-Touch ialing
T call a c ntact that has a speed dial l cati n:
• Fr m the h me screen, press and h ld a speed
dialing l cati n. If it is a tw -digit l cati n,
press the first digit briefly, then press and h ld
the sec nd digit. F r example, if the speed
dialing l cati n is 15, press briefly, then
press and h ld .
Setting up voicemail
Bef re y ur ph ne can receive v icemail messages,
y u must set up a passw rd and rec rd a pers nal
greeting with y ur service pr vider. When y u have
set up y ur v icemail, all unanswered calls t y ur
ph ne are aut matically transferred t v icemail,
even if y ur ph ne is in use r turned ff.
Note: C ntact y ur service pr vider t set up y ur
passw rd and pers nal greeting.
Checking voicemail messages
When a v ice message is received, y ur screen will
display a message: “New Message [x] V icemail.”
This text will remain f r ab ut five minutes. After
that, l k f r the symb l at the t p f y ur
screen. The symb l flashes if the message is urgent.
If you see “New Message” on your screen
1. Press t select Call. This initiates a call t
y ur v icemail number.
2. F ll w the pr mpts t retrieve the message.

If you see the symbol
1. Press t initiate a call t y ur v icemail

Changing the keyguard setting
1. Select Menu → Settings → Keyguard.
2. Highlight an pti n. Y u can set the ph ne t
l ck the keypad immediately, r aut matically if
n key is pressed after 30 sec nds, 1 minute, r
5 minutes.
3. Press t save.
Tracking calls
Y u can track the number and durati n f calls
made and received n y ur ph ne.
1. Select Menu → Settings → Call Information.
2. Select a timer:
–Recent Calls—Tracks all calls y u have made
and received since y u last reset this timer.
–All Calls Timer—Tracks all calls y u have
made and received. This timer cann t be reset.
3. T reset a timer, highlight Reset and press .
Timing your calls
Y u can set y ur ph ne t beep 10 sec nds bef re
each minute passes when y u are n a call.
• Select Menu → Settings → Sounds →
Minute Alert → Ena led.
Receiving data or faxes
Y ur ph ne may be able t receive certain data r
faxes, depending n the system sending the
inf rmati n. Y u cann t receive v ice calls while
the ph ne is in data/fax m de. F r m re
inf rmati n, see “Data settings” n page 35.

Setting roaming alerts and
ringers
Setting an alert for roaming
Y u can set y ur ph ne t alert y u with beeps when
y u r am utside f y ur h me service area.
1. Select Menu → Settings → Network →
Roam/Svc Alert.
2. Select an pti n and press .
–When no svc alerts y u with three t nes
decreasing in pitch when service is l st and
three t nes increasing in pitch when service
is acquired again.
–Roam Change alerts y u with tw
decreasing t nes when r aming service is
acquired and three increasing t nes when
h me area service is acquired again.
–Any Change alerts y u with three
increasing t nes if there is a change in
r aming service r three decreasing t nes
if the ph ne l ses service.
Setting the roam ringer
Y u can set a ringer t indicate when an inc ming
call will be subject t r aming charges.
1. Select Menu → Settings → Sounds →
Roam Ringer.
2. Highlight Ena led and press . Y u’ll hear a
sample f the ringer.
3. Press t set the ringer.
Setting Call Guard to avoid roaming calls
Y u can set y ur ph ne t warn y u bef re y u
answer r place a call while r aming.
• Select Menu → Settings → Convenience →
Call Guard → Call prompt.
The ph ne makes a distinctive ring t indicate an
inc ming call while y u are r aming, and y u must
press t accept the call r t place a call
while r aming.
Controlling network roaming
Specifying digital or analog mode
Y u may f rce the ph ne int either digital r
anal g m de. This is useful if y u are in an area
that b rders n digital service and the aut matic
feature is causing the ph ne t keep switching
between m des.
1. Select Menu → Settings → Network →
Digital/Analog.
2. Select an pti n and press .
–Automatic aut matically switches the ph ne
between digital and anal g.
–Analog only sets the ph ne t w rk in
anal g m de nly.
–Analog call f rces a call int anal g m de
f r the durati n f the next call.
–Digital only sets the ph ne t w rk in digital
m de nly.

Turning roaming on or off
This setting all ws y u t c ntr l the ph ne’s
r aming feature by specifying which signals the
ph ne will accept.
1. Select Menu → Settings → Network →
Roam Option.
2. Select an pti n and press .
–Automatic (rec mmended setting) accepts
any system the ph ne service pr vides.
–No Roaming prevents y u fr m making
r receiving calls utside f y ur h me
service area.
