1. Safety

Forhouseholdandindooruseonly
Placetheapplianceonaflat,stablesurfacewithadequateventilationandawayfromother
sourcesofheat.Minimumdistancesaroundtheapplianceforadequateventilationis10cm.Do
notcoverorrestrictventilationopenings.
Keeptheapplianceanditscordoutofreachofchildrenlessthan8years.
Donotallowchildrentousetheappliancewithoutsupervision.
Thisappliancecanbeusedbychildrenagedfrom8yearsandaboveandpersonswithreduced
physical,sensoryormentalcapabilitiesorlackofexperienceandknowledgeiftheyhavebeen
givensupervisionorinstructionconcerninguseoftheapplianceinasafewayandunderstand

1. BATTERYINSTALLATIONANDUSE
Tousetheappliancewithbatteriesensurethatthepowercordisnotconnectedtothemains
andinstallthebatteriesintothebatterycompartment.
1.1 Liftoffthebatterycompartmentcoverfromtheundersideofthe
radio.
1.2 Insert4xAA1.5Valkalinebatteries(notincluded)inaccordance
withthediagraminthebatterycompartment.Takecaretoobserve
thecorrectpolarity(+/‐).
1.3 Refitthebatterycompartmentcover. 
1.4 Donotexposethebatteriesortheinstalledbatteriestoexcessiveheat(e.g.fire,sunshine
orpositionclosetoradiatorsetc.).
Notes:
AllDABradio’susemorepowerduringusethan‘traditional’radiosandsowillrunbatteries
downwithinafewhours.Thereforeuseofmainspower(orrechargeablebatteries)is
recommendedforextendedlistening.
Alwaysswitchoffusingtheon/offatrearwhennotinuse.Standbymodecontinuestouse
powerand(ifinbatterymode)willflattenthebatterieswithinacoupleofdays.

2. GETTINGSTARTED
2.1 Ifusingmainspower,inserttheadaptorcordintothepowersocketattherearoftheradio.
Plugtheadaptorintothemainssupplysocket.
2.2 Ifusingtheradiowithbatteriesensurethatthepowercordisnotinsertedintothebackof
theapplianceandinstallthebatteriesintothebatterycompartment.
2.3 Fullyextendthetelescopicantenna.
2.4 Movetheon/offswitchattherearoftheradiotothe‘on’positionandthedisplaywill
illuminate,awelcomemessagewillbedisplayedbriefly(Fig.1)andthentheclock(00:00:00)
willbeshown.

2.13 Toturntheclockradiocompletelyoff,movetheon/offswitchattherearoftheradioto
the‘off’position.(Note:Clockdisplayandalarmwillnotfunctioninoffmode.)
Note:TheclockinthisradioisequippedtoreceiveaDABradiofrequencytimesignalorFMtime
signalwithRDSandafterturnedon,itwillautomaticallytuneintoaDABradiostationand
updatetheclock.Itmaybenecessarytowaitfor1‐2minutestoallowtheunittoreceivethe
timesignal.
3. USINGTHERADIO‐DABMODE
DABdiffersfromanalogueradio;theseparatesignalsfromanumberofstationsaregrouped
togetherandtransmittedasasinglefrequency.Thesegroupsarereferredtoasmultiplexesand
ensembles.Eachtimeagrouphasbeenfoundthenameofthegroupwillbeshownonthelower
halfofthedisplay.
3.1 DABmode‐autoscan
ThisfunctionallowstheradiotosearchautomaticallyforDABBandIIIchannels.
3.1.1 TosearchallDABbandIIIchannels,presstheScanbuttonand‘Autotunefullscan’is
displayed.Thescanwillbeinitiatedandaslidebarwillbeshowninthedisplaytoshowthe
processofthescan.
3.1.2 Whenthescanisfinishedtheradiowillplaythefirstalphanumericallyfoundstation.
3.1.3 Iftheradiodoesnotfindanystations,‘NosignalDAB’willbedisplayed.Trymovingthe
radiotoanotherlocation(nearawindowmaybebetter)andrepeatingtheabovesteps.
Ensuretheantennaisfullyextended.
3.1.4 Toscrollthroughthestationsthathavebeenfound,presstheForward()buttonor
Backward()button.ThenpresstheEnterbuttonlistentothestationofchoiceorwaita
fewsecondsandtheradiowillautomaticallyretune.
3.2 DABmode‐Manualscan
Thisfunctionallowsaspecificornewensembletobemanuallyaddedtothestationsalready
availableontheradio.
3.2.1 PressandholdtheEnterbuttonuntilthedisplayshows‘manualtune’.
3.2.2 PresstheForward( )buttonorBackward()buttontomovethroughtheDAB
channelsandtheassociatedfrequencies.Whenthedesiredensemble/frequencyappears
inthedisplay,presstheenterbuttontoaddtheensembleanddisplaythename.

3.2.3 PresstheForward( )buttonorBackward()buttontomovethroughthestations
includedintheensembleandpresstheEnterbuttontolistentothestationofchoiceand
exitthemanualtunemode.
3.3 DABMODE‐SECONDARYSERVICES
Somestationsincludesecondaryservicesandwhentheseareavailablea‘>’symbolappears
afterthestationname.ToaccessthisservicepresstheEnterbutton.
4. USINGTHERADIO‐FMMODE
4.1 Turntheradioon,presstheModebuttonandselecttheFMmode.Thedisplaywillshow
‘switchingtoFM’andtheradiowilltuneto87.50MHz.
4.2 Toactivateautosearch,brieflypresstheScanbuttonandtheradiowillstartscanningup
thefrequencyandstopautomaticallyoncethenextstationuphasbeenfound.Toscan
downwards,pressandholdtheScanbuttonforatleast1second.
4.3 Tosearchmanually,presstheForward()buttonorBackward()buttontoincrement
thefrequencyby0.05MHz.
4.4 Tochangetheaudiomode(autoormono)presstheEnterbuttonontheunit,thiswill
switchfromautotomono,pressandagaintoswitchback.Ifautoisselectedtheradiowill
automaticallyswitchbetweenstereoandmonomode.(Note:Asthisunitonlyhasasingle
speaker,thesemodeswillnotaffectthespeakeroutput.)
4.5 IfanFMRDS(RadioDataSignal)ispresent,thedisplaywillautomaticallyshowthestation
nameandradiotext(whereavailable).
5. RADIODISPLAYMODES
IftheMenubuttonispressedrepeatedlywhenaradiostationisplaying,thesecondlineofthe
stationdisplaywillscrollthroughthefollowmodeswitheachpressofthebutton.
InDABmode

InFMmode

Ensemble/Multiplex(Groupname)‐Theensemble/multiplexisagroupofstationthatare
bundledandtransmittedtogetherinasinglefrequency.Therearenationalandlocalmultiplexes,
localonescontainstationsthatarespecifictothelocalarea.
Signalstrength‐thedisplaywillshowaslidebartoindicatethestrengthofthesignal.The
strongerthesignal,thelongerthebar.
DLS(dynamiclabelsegment)/Radiotext‐Thebroadcastermayincludeascrollingmessageabout
thecurrentprogramme.
Programmetype‐thisdescribesthestyleoftheprogramme.Iftheinformationisnotavailable
thedisplaywillshow‘<Programmetype>’.
Timeanddate‐thetimeanddatewillbeautomaticallyupdatedbytheradiotimesignal.
Audiomode‐thedisplaywillshowifthestationbeingreceivedisstereoormono.
Frequency‐displaywillshowthefrequencyofthestationbeingbroadcast.
Audiobitrate‐thedisplaywillshowthedigitalaudiobitratebeingreceived.
6. PROGRAMMEDSTATIONFUNCTION
Thisfunctionallowsupto10stationstobeprogrammedintothememoryandstoredintheDAB
andFMmodes.
6.1 Followthedirectionsabovetoselectaradiostation.
6.2 PressandholdthePresetbuttonuntilthedisplayshowstheflashingPresetnumber.(Fig.8)

7. ALARMFUNCTION
Thisradiohasdualalarmfunctionanditispossibletosettwoindividualalarmtimes.Thisalarm
andmaybesettowakeasabuzzertoneortoafavoriteradio(DAB/FM)station.Thealarmcan
besetinstandbyorduringoperation.
7.1 Tosetthefirstalarm,presstheAlarm1buttontodisplaythealarm1status,usethe
Forward( )buttonorBackward()buttonuntil‘AlarmstatusON’isdisplayedand
presstheEnterbuttontoenterthesetupmode.
7.2 Thedisplaywillnowshowthecurrenttime,thewakeuptimeandthehourdigitsforthe
wakeuptimewillflash.PresstheForward( )buttonorBackward()buttonuntilthe
correctalarmhourisdisplayed.
7.3 PresstheEnterbuttontoacceptandtheminutedigitswillnowflashinthedisplay.Usethe
Forward( )buttonorBackward()buttonuntilthecorrectalarmminuteisdisplayed.
7.4 PresstheEnterbuttontoacceptandthealarmfrequency(e.g.daily,weekdays,weekends,
once)willnowbedisplayed.UsetheForward( )buttonorBackward()buttontoset
thealarmfrequency.
7.5 PresstheEnterbuttontoacceptandthewakeupmode(e.g.BEEPER,DABorFM)willbe
displayed.UsetheForward( )buttonorBackward()buttontoselectthewakeup
modeofchoice.
7.6 PresstheEnterbuttontoacceptandthealarmvolumewillnowbedisplayed.Usethe
Forward()buttonorBackward()buttontosetthewakeupvolumeofchoice.
7.7 PresstheEnterbuttononcemoretoacceptandexitthesetupmode.Thealarmindicator
(1)willnowbeshowninthedisplayunderstandbymode.
7.8 Thealarmisnowsetandwillremaininmemorywhentheunitisswitchedtostandbymode.
7.9 Whenthetimeontheclockisthesameasthealarmtimethathasbeenset,thealarmwill
soundandthedisplaywillflash.
7.10 Thealarmwillcontinuetosoundandstopautomaticallyafteronehour.Tosilencethe
alarm,pressStandbybutton.Ifadailyalarmhasbeenset,thealarmindicatorwillremain
illuminatedandthealarmwillsoundagainatthetimethefollowingdayuntilthealarmis
switchedoff.

7.11 Toactivatethesnoozefunction,presstheSnooze/Sleepbuttonwhenthealarmsounds.
Thesnoozeindicator(Zz)willbeshowninthedisplay:thealarmwillsilenceandthensound
againafterapproximatelynineminutes.
7.12 Toturnoffthealarmpermanently,presstheAlarm1buttontodisplaythealarmstatus.
UsetheForward( )buttonorBackward()buttonuntil‘Alarmstatusoff’isdisplayed,
thenpresstheEnterbuttontoacceptandexitthemode.Thealarmhasbeendeactivated
andthealarmindicatorwillnolongerbeshowninthedisplay.
Notes:
Ifthepowerisinterrupted(ortheunitisswitchedoffusingtherearswitch)andbatteriesare
notfittedinthebatterycompartment,thealarmsettingwillbelost.
Tosetthesecondalarm,usetheAlarm2buttonandthenfollowthestepsabovetosetthis
alarm.
IftheDABorFMradiowakeupoptionisselectedthealarmwillplaythelaststationlistenedto
inDABorFM.
Theclockdisplaysize/brightnessisfixedandcannotbeadjusted.
8. SETTINGANDUSINGTHESLEEPFUNCTION
Thisfunctionwillswitchofftheradioautomaticallyafterapresettimeinterval.
8.1 Withtheradioofchoiceplaying,presstheSnooze/Sleepbuttonandthesleepstatusis
showninthedisplay.
8.2 PresstheForward()buttonorBackward()buttonrepeatedlyuntilthedesiredsleep
interval(seesequencebelow)isshowninthedisplay.

8.3 PresstheEnterbuttontoaccept.Thesleeptimerisnowactivatedandthedisplaywillshow
thesleepindicator(s)andthetimeintervalremainingbeforetheradioswitchesoff.
8.4 Thesleepfunctionwillcountdownandtheunitwillswitchoffautomaticallyafterthetime
intervalselectedhasbeenlapsed.
8.5 Tocancelthesleeptimer,presstheSnooze/SleepbuttonandthenpresstheForward( )
buttonorBackward()buttonrepeatedlyuntil‘OFF’isshowninthedisplay.Pressthe
Enterbuttontoaccept.
9. USINGHEADPHONES(notincluded)
Astereoheadphonejackhasbeenprovidedsothattheunitcanbeusedwithoutdisturbing
others.Plugintheheadphonesatthepointmarked‘ ’attherearoftheradioandadjustthe
listeningvolumetoyourchosenlevel.Excessivesoundpressurefromearphonesand
headphonescancausehearingloss.Thespeakerwillnotoperatewhenearphonesarefitted.
10. RESET
Movingtheradiotoanotherlocationinthecountrythepre‐tunedandstoredstationsmayno
longerbeavailableanditwillbenecessarytoresettheradiobacktothefactorysettings.
10.1 Withtheunitswitchedon,pressandholdtheMenu/Infobuttonuntilthedisplayshows
<SetTime/Date>,thenpress buttontoselectthe‘systemreset’.
10.2 PresstheEnterbuttontoconfirmresetand‘pressenterkeytoreset’willbedisplayed.
10.3 PresstheEnterbuttononceagaintoconfirm.Theradiowilldisplay‘systemreset’andthe
resetwillbegin.
10.4 A‘fullscan’willthenstartandthedisplaywillshowprogressingslidebar.
10.5 Whenthescanisfinishedtheradiowillplaythefirstalphanumericallyfoundstation.All
storedprogrammedstationswillbelostduringreset.
Note:Ifpress buttonagaininstep10.1the‘softwarenumber’willbedisplayed.
