Notes:
• Be sure not to block the dust screen, as it is the air vent. Blocking it may cause
thermal roblems.
• Kee any liquid away from the dust screen in case the liquid flows into the
chassis and results in malfunction.

Connect USB-com atible devices, such as a USB keyboard, USB mouse, USB
storage device, or USB rinter.
Note: An a ro riate ada ter may be needed for connecting external devices.
3. USB 3.2 connectors Gen 1 (2) Connect USB-com atible devices, such as a USB keyboard, USB mouse, USB
storage device, or USB rinter.
4. Audio connectors (6)
Send audio signals from the com uter to external devices, such as owered
stereo s eakers, head hones, or multimedia keyboards. To connect a stereo
system or other external recording device, connect a cable between the audio
line-in connector of the device and the audio line-out connector of the com uter.
Note: If your com uter has both an audio line-out connector and a headset or
head hone connector, always use the headset or head hone connector for
ear hones, head hones, or a headset. The head hone connector does not
su ort headset micro hones.
Receive audio signals from an external audio device, such as a stereo system. To
connect an external audio device, connect a cable between the audio line-out
connector of the device and the audio line-in connector of the com uter.
5. PCI-Ex ress card area
Install PCI-Ex ress cards into this area to im rove the o erating erformance of
the com uter. De ending on the com uter model, the connectors in this area
vary.
6. Power cord connector Connect the ower cord to your com uter for ower su ly.

7. USB 3.2 connector Gen 2 Connect USB-com atible devices, such as a USB keyboard, USB mouse, USB

8. Ethernet connector
Connect to a local area network (LAN). When the green indicator is on, the
com uter is connected to a LAN. When the yellow indicator blinks, data is being
transmitted.

Get started with Windows 10
Learn the basics of Windows 10 and start working with it right away. For more information about Windows
10, see the Windows hel information.
Windows a ount
A user account is required to use the Windows o erating system. It can either be a Windows user account or
a Microsoft account.
Windows user a ount
When you start Windows for the first time, you are rom ted to create a Windows user account. This first
account you created is of the “Administrator” ty e. With an Administrator account, you can create additional
user accounts or change account ty es by doing the following:
1. O en the Start menu and select Settings ➙ A ounts ➙ Family & other users.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Mi rosoft a ount
You can also log in to the Windows o erating system with a Microsoft account.
To create a Microsoft account, go to the Microsoft sign-u age at htt s://signu .live.com and follow the on-
screen instructions.
With a Microsoft account, you can:
• Enjoy one-time signing in if you are using other Microsoft services, such as OneDrive, Sky e, and Outlook.

• Sync ersonalized settings across other Windows-based devices.

Conne t to networks
Your com uter hel s you connect to the world through a wired or wireless network.
Conne t to the wired Ethernet
Connect your com uter to a local network through the Ethernet connector on your com uter with an
Ethernet cable.
Conne t to Wi-Fi networks (for sele ted models)
If your com uter includes a wireless LAN module, you can connect your com uter to Wi-Fi® networks. The
wireless LAN module on your com uter may su ort different standards. For some countries or regions, use
of 802.11ax may be disabled according to local regulations.
1. Click the network icon in the Windows notification area. A list of available wireless networks is dis layed.
2. Select a network available for connection. Provide required information, if needed.
Use Lenovo Vantage
The reinstalled Lenovo Vantage is a customized one-sto solution to hel you maintain your com uter with
automated u dates and fixes, configure hardware settings, and get ersonalized su ort.

O en the Start menu and click Lenovo Vantage. You also can ty e Lenovo Vantage in the search box.
To download the latest version of Lenovo Vantage, go to Microsoft Store and search by the a name.

Lenovo Vantage enables you to:
• Know the device status easily and customize device settings.
• Download and install UEFI BIOS, firmware and driver u dates to kee your com uter u -to-date.
• Monitor your com uter health, and secure your com uter against outside threats.

com uter. The descri tion of features might be different from that on your actual user interface.
Use multimedia
Use your com uter for business or entertainment with the devices (such as a camera, a monitor, or
s eakers).
Use audio
To enhance the audio ex erience, connect s eakers, head hones, or a headset to the audio connector.
Adjust the volume
1. Click the volume icon in the Windows notification area on the taskbar.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust the volume. Click the s eaker icon to mute the audio.
Change the sound settings
1. Go to Control Panel and view by category.
2. Click Hardware and Sound ➙ Sound.
3. Change the settings as you refer.

Manage power
Use the information in this section to achieve the best balance between erformance and ower efficiency.
Set power button behaviors
You can define what the ower button does according to your reference. For exam le, by ressing the
ower button, you can turn off the com uter or ut the com uter to slee or hibernation mode.
To change what the ower button does:
1. Go to Control Panel and view by large icons or small icons.
2. Click Power Options ➙ Choose what the power buttons do.
3. Change the settings as you refer.
Set the power plan
For ENERGY STAR® com liant com uters, the following ower lan takes effect when your com uters have
been idle for a s ecified duration:

• Turn off the dis lay: After 10 minutes
• Put the com uter to slee : After 25 minutes
To awaken the com uter from Slee mode, ress any key on your keyboard.
To reset the ower lan to achieve the best balance between erformance and ower saving:
1. Go to Control Panel and view by large icons or small icons.
2. Click Power Options, and then choose or customize a ower lan of your reference.
Transfer data
Quickly share your files using the built-in Bluetooth technology among devices with the same features. You
also can install a disc or media card to transfer data.
Conne t to a Bluetooth-enabled devi e
You can connect all ty es of Bluetooth-enabled devices to your com uter, such as a keyboard, a mouse, a
smart hone, or s eakers. To ensure that the connection is successful, lace the devices 10 meters (33 feet),
at most, from the com uter.
1. Turn on Bluetooth on the com uter.
a. O en the Start menu, and then click Settings ➙ Devi es ➙ Bluetooth & other devi es.
b. Turn on the Bluetooth switch.
2. Click Add Bluetooth or other devi e ➙ Bluetooth.
3. Select a Bluetooth device, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Your Bluetooth device and com uter will automatically connect the next time if the two devices are in range
of each other with Bluetooth turned on. You can use Bluetooth for data transfer or remote control and
communication.
Use the opti al drive (for sele ted models)
If your com uter has an o tical drive, read the following information.
Know the type of your opti al drive
1. Right-click the Start button to o en the Start context menu.
2. Click Devi e Manager. Ty e the administrator assword or rovide confirmation, if rom ted.
Install or remove a dis
1. With the com uter on, ress the eject/close button on the o tical drive. The tray slides out of the drive.
2. Insert a disc into the tray or remove a disc from the tray, and then ress the eject/close button again to
close the tray.
Note: If the tray does not slide out of the drive when you ress the eject/close button, turn off the com uter.
Then, insert a straightened a er cli into the emergency-eject hole adjacent to the eject/close button. Use
the emergency eject only in an emergency.
Re ord a dis
1. Insert a recordable disc into the o tical drive that su orts recording.
2. Do one of the following:
• O en the Start menu, and then click Settings ➙ Devi es ➙ AutoPlay. Select or turn on Use
AutoPlay for all media and devi es.
• O en Windows Media Player.
• Double-click the ISO file.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

This cha ter rovides solutions to resolve com uter roblems. Use the basic rocedure as a starting oint
for resolving com uter roblems.
Basi pro edure for resolving omputer problems
Prerequisite
Before you start, read A endix A “Im ortant safety information” on age 57 and rint the following
instructions.
1. Check that:
a. The cables for all connected devices are connected correctly and securely.
b. All com onents have been reassembled correctly.
c. All connected devices that require ac ower are connected to ro erly grounded and working
electrical outlets.
d. All connected devices are enabled in UEFI BIOS.
2. Use an antivirus rogram to see if the com uter has been infected by a virus. If the rogram detects a
virus, remove the virus.
3. Go to “Troubleshooting” on age 13 and follow the instructions for the ty e of roblem you are
ex eriencing.
4. Run the diagnostic rogram.
5. Recover your o erating system. See “Recovery” on age 20.
6. If the roblem ersists, contact Lenovo. See Cha ter 6 “Hel and su ort” on age 53.
Troubleshooting
Use the troubleshooting information to find solutions to roblems that have definite sym toms.

Startup problems
Problem Solution
The com uter does not start u when you
ress the ower button.
• Ensure that the ower cord is correctly connected to the rear of the
com uter and to a working electrical outlet.
• If the com uter has a secondary ower switch on the rear of the
com uter, ensure that it is switched on.
• The ower indicator on the front of the com uter is on.
• The com uter voltage matches the voltage available at the
electrical outlet for your country or region.
The o erating system does not start u from
the correct storage drive or fails to start u
• Ensure that all storage drive signal cables and ower cables are
connected correctly.
• Ensure that the storage drive the com uter starts u from is listed
as the first startu device in UEFI BIOS.
• In rare cases, the storage drive with the o erating system might get
corru ted or damaged. In such cases, you might need to re lace
the storage drive.
• If the com uter is installed with an O tane memory:
– Ensure that the O tane memory is not removed.
– Ensure that the O tane memory is not damaged. Check the
O tane memory using diagnostic tools.
