Improperhandlingofstati-sensitivepartsanausedamagetothepart.Whenyouunpakanoption
orCRU,donotopenthestati-protetivepakageontainingthepartuntiltheinstrutionsdiretyou
toinstallit.
WhenyouhandleoptionsorCRUs,orperformanyworkinsidetheomputer,takethefollowingpreautions
toavoidstati-eletriitydamage:
•Limityourmovement.Movementanausestatieletriitytobuilduparoundyou.
•Alwayshandleomponentsarefully.Handleadapters,memorymodules,andotheriruitboardsbythe
edges.Nevertouhexposediruitry.
•Preventothersfromtouhingomponents.
•Whenyouinstallastati-sensitiveoptionorCRU,touhthestati-protetivepakageontainingthe
parttoametalexpansion-slotoverorotherunpaintedmetalsurfaeontheomputerforatleasttwo
seonds.Thisreduesstatieletriityinthepakageandyourbody.
•Whenpossible,removethestati-sensitivepartfromthestati-protetivepakagingandinstallthepart
withoutsettingitdown.Whenthisisnotpossible,plaethestati-protetivepakagingonasmooth,
levelsurfaeandplaethepartonit.
•Donotplaethepartontheomputeroverorothermetalsurfae.
Powercordsandpoweradapters
Useonlythepowerordsandpoweradapterssuppliedbytheprodutmanufaturer.
Thepowerordsshallbesafetyapproved.ForGermany,itshallbeH05VV-F,3G,0.75mm2,orbetter.For
otherountries,thesuitabletypesshallbeusedaordingly.
Neverwrapapowerordaroundapoweradapterorotherobjet.Doingsoanstresstheordinwaysthat
anausetheordtofray,rak,orrimp.Thisanpresentasafetyhazard.
Alwaysroutepowerordssothattheywillnotbewalkedon,trippedover,orpinhedbyobjets.
Protetpowerordandpoweradaptersfromliquids.Forinstane,donotleaveyourpowerordorpower
adapternearsinks,tubs,toilets,oronfloorsthatareleanedwithliquidleansers.Liquidsanausea
shortiruit,partiularlyifthepowerordorpoweradapterhasbeenstressedbymisuse.Liquidsalsoan
ausegradualorrosionofpowerordterminalsand/ortheonnetorterminalsonapoweradapter,
whihaneventuallyresultinoverheating.
Ensurethatallpowerordonnetorsareseurelyandompletelypluggedintoreeptales.
Donotuseanypoweradapterthatshowsorrosionattheainputpinsorshowssignsofoverheating(suh
asdeformedplasti)attheainputoranywhereonthepoweradapter.
Donotuseanypowerordswheretheeletrialontatsoneitherendshowsignsoforrosionor
overheatingorwherethepowerordappearstohavebeendamagedinanyway.
Extensioncordsandrelateddevices
Ensurethatextensionords,surgeprotetors,uninterruptiblepowersupplies,andpowerstripsthatyouuse
areratedtohandletheeletrialrequirementsoftheprodut.Neveroverloadthesedevies.Ifpowerstrips

areused,theloadshouldnotexeedthepowerstripinputrating.Consultaneletriianformoreinformation
ifyouhavequestionsaboutpowerloads,powerrequirements,andinputratings.
Plugsandoutlets
Ifareeptale(poweroutlet)thatyouintendtousewithyouromputerequipmentappearstobedamaged
ororroded,donotusetheoutletuntilitisreplaedbyaqualifiedeletriian.
Donotbendormodifytheplug.Iftheplugisdamaged,ontatthemanufaturertoobtainareplaement.
Donotshareaneletrialoutletwithotherhomeorommerialapplianesthatdrawlargeamountsof
eletriity;otherwise,unstablevoltagemightdamageyouromputer,data,orattaheddevies.
Someprodutsareequippedwithathree-prongedplug.Thisplugfitsonlyintoagroundedeletrialoutlet.
Thisisasafetyfeature.Donotdefeatthissafetyfeaturebytryingtoinsertitintoanon-groundedoutlet.If
youannotinserttheplugintotheoutlet,ontataneletriianforanapprovedoutletadapterortoreplae
theoutletwithonethatenablesthissafetyfeature.Neveroverloadaneletrialoutlet.Theoverallsystem
loadshouldnotexeed80perentofthebranhiruitrating.Consultaneletriianformoreinformation

theomputerpowerison;otherwise,youmightdamageyouromputer.Toavoidpossibledamageto
attaheddevies,waitatleastfiveseondsaftertheomputerisshutdowntodisonnetexternaldevies.
Heatandproductventilation
Computers,poweradapters,andmanyaessoriesangenerateheatwhenturnedonandwhenbatteries
areharging.Alwaysfollowthesebasipreautions:
•Donotleaveyouromputer,poweradapter,oraessoriesinontatwithyourlaporanypartofyour
bodyforanextendedperiodwhentheprodutsarefuntioningorwhenthebatteryisharging.Your
omputer,poweradapter,andmanyaessoriesproduesomeheatduringnormaloperation.Extended
ontatwiththebodyouldausedisomfortor,potentially,askinburn.
•Donothargethebatteryoroperateyouromputer,poweradapter,oraessoriesnearflammable
materialsorinexplosiveenvironments.
•Ventilationslots,fans,andheatsinksareprovidedwiththeprodutforsafety,omfort,andreliable
operation.Thesefeaturesmightinadvertentlybeomeblokedbyplaingtheprodutonabed,sofa,
arpet,orotherflexiblesurfae.Neverblok,over,ordisablethesefeatures.
Inspetyourdesktopomputerfordustaumulationatleastoneeverythreemonths.Beforeinspeting
youromputer,turnoffthepowerandunplugtheomputer'spowerordfromtheeletrialoutlet;then
removeanydustfromventsandperforationsinthebezel.Ifyounotieexternaldustaumulation,then
examineandremovedustfromtheinsideoftheomputerinludingheatsinkinletfins,powersupplyvents,
andfans.Alwaysturnoffandunplugtheomputerbeforeopeningtheover.Ifpossible,avoidoperating

•Keeptheoverlosedwhenevertheomputerispluggedin.
•Regularlyinspettheoutsideoftheomputerfordustaumulation.
•Removedustfromventsandanyperforationsinthebezel.Morefrequentleaningsmightberequiredfor
omputersindustyorhigh-traffiareas.
•Donotrestritorblokanyventilationopenings.

•Airflowtemperaturesintotheomputershouldnotexeed35°C(95°F).
•Donotinstallairfiltrationdevies.Theymayinterferewithproperooling.
Operatingenvironment
Theoptimalenvironmentinwhihtouseyouromputeris10°C–35°C(50°F–95°F)withhumidityranging
between35%and80%.Ifyouromputerisstoredortransportedintemperatureslessthan10°C(50°F),
allowtheoldomputertoriseslowlytoanoptimaloperatingtemperatureof10°C–35°C(50°F–95°F)before
use.Thisproessouldtaketwohoursinextremeonditions.Failuretoallowyouromputertorisetoan
optimaloperatingtemperaturebeforeuseouldresultinirreparabledamagetoyouromputer.
Ifpossible,plaeyouromputerinawell-ventilatedanddryareawithoutdiretexposuretosunshine.
Keepeletrialapplianessuhasaneletrifan,radio,high-poweredspeakers,aironditioner,and
mirowaveovenawayfromyouromputerbeausethestrongmagnetifieldsgeneratedbythese
applianesandamagethemonitoranddataontheharddiskdrive.
Donotplaeanybeveragesontopoforbesidetheomputerorotherattaheddevies.Ifliquidisspilledon
orintheomputeroranattaheddevie,ashortiruitorotherdamagemightour.
