Chapter 1 Meet your computer

1. Microphones Capture or record sound and voice.
2. Camera Take pictures or record videos by c icking Camera from the Start menu.
Note: If you use other app ications that support photo capture, video chat, and
video conference, the camera starts automatica y when you enab e the camera-
required feature from the app ication.

Note: The camera cover he ps you better protect your privacy.

1. Power/Fingerprint reader ight The ight shows power status of the computer. If the computer inc udes a
fingerprint reader, it can a so show the status of the reader.
• Solid white: The computer is on.
• Blinking slowly in white: The computer is in s eep mode.
• Off: The computer is off or in hibernation mode.
• Blinking green: The fingerprint reader is starting.
• Solid green: The fingerprint reader is waiting for you to scan your fingerprint.
2. Power button/Fingerprint

Press the button to turn on the computer or put the computer in s eep mode.
Enro and read your fingerprint for user authentication.
3. Keyboard Enter characters and interact with programs.

1. Power connector Connect to power with the inc uded power cord and ac power adapter*.
Note: Either an ac power adapter or a USB-C power adapter is provided with
your computer.
2. Charging ight Indicate whether the computer is connected to ac power.

Chapter 2 Get started with your computer
Get started with Windows 10
Learn the basics of Windows 10 and start working with it right away. For more information about Windows
10, see the Windows he p information.
Windows account
You must create at east one account to use the Windows operating system. It can be either a oca account
or a Microsoft account.
Local accounts
A oca account is created on a particu ar Windows-enab ed device and it can on y be used on that device. It
is recommended that you set a password for each oca account to prevent unauthorized access to the
device.
Microsoft accounts
A Microsoft account is a user account that you use to sign in to Microsoft software and services. If you use
Microsoft services ike OneDrive, Out ook.com, Xbox Live, Office 365, and Skype, you might a ready have
one. If you don't have it, you can create one for free.
There are two main benefits of using a Microsoft account:
• Sign in on y once. If you use a Microsoft account to sign in to Windows 10, you don’t need to sign in again
to use OneDrive, Skype, Out ook.com, and other Microsoft services.
• Settings can be synced. If you use your Microsoft account to sign in to mu tip e Windows-enab ed
devices, certain Windows settings can be synced among the devices.
Switch between a local and a Microsoft account
If you are using a oca account to sign in to Windows 10, you can switch to use a Microsoft account instead.
Step 1. Open the Start menu and se ect Settings ➙ Accounts.
Step 2. Se ect Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
Step 3. If you a ready have a Microsoft account, enter the account name and password to sign in.
Otherwise, se ect Create one to create a new Microsoft account.
Note: The device must have Internet access the first time you use a Microsoft account on that
device.
If you want to switch back to use a oca account, open the Start menu and se ect Settings ➙ Accounts ➙
Sign in with a local account instead.
Add additional user accounts
Your user account must be of the “Administrator” type to add additiona user accounts to Windows.
Add additiona user accounts if you need to share your computer with fami y members or other peop e.
Step 1. Open the Start menu and se ect Settings ➙ Accounts ➙ Family & other users.
Step 2. Se ect either Add a family member or Add someone else to this PC.

Note: By defau t, you are prompted to add Microsoft accounts. If you don’t know the person’s
Microsoft account, se ect I don’t have this person’s sign-in information. Fo ow on-screen
instructions to create a Microsoft account for the person. A ternative y, se ect Add a user without a
Microsoft account to create a oca account for the person.
Enroll your fingerprint
If your computer inc udes a fingerprint reader, you can enro your fingerprint for Windows sign-in.
Step 1. Open the Start menu and se ect Settings ➙ Accounts ➙ Sign-in options.
Note: If you are using a oca account, the account must be password protected. Otherwise, you
cannot enro fingerprints.
Step 2. Under Fingerprint, se ect Set up ➙ Get started.
Step 3. Fo ow on-screen instructions to comp ete enro ment. Create a PIN when prompted, in case your
fingerprint cannot be recognized at Windows sign-in.
Note: You can enro more than one fingerprint.

Windows user interface
1. Account Change account settings, ock the computer, or sign out from the current account.
2. Documents Open the Documents fo der, a defau t fo der to save your received fi es.
3. Pictures Open the Pictures fo der, a defau t fo der to save your received pictures.
4. Settings Launch Settings.
5. Power Shut down, restart, or put the computer into s eep.
6. Start button Open the Start menu.
7. Windows Search Type what you are ooking for in the search box and get search resu ts from your
computer and the Web.
8. Task View Disp ay a opened apps and switch among them.
9. Windows notification area Disp ay notifications and status of some features.
10. Battery status icon Disp ay power status and change battery or power settings. When your computer
is not connected to ac power, the icon changes to .
11. Network icon Connect to an avai ab e wire ess network and disp ay the network status. .
12. Action center Disp ay the atest notifications from apps and provide quick access to some
features.
Open the Start menu
• C ick the Start button.
• Press the Windows ogo key on the keyboard.
Access Control Panel
• Open the Start menu and c ick Windows System ➙ Control Panel.
• Use Windows Search.

Launch an app
• Open the Start menu and se ect the app you want to aunch.
• Use Windows Search.
Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo PC Manager
Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo PC Manager is software deve oped by Lenovo. Using the software, you can:
• View product information
• View warranty and support information
• Run hardware scan and diagnose prob ems
• Change hardware settings
• Update Windows, drivers, and UEFI/BIOS
Lenovo Vantage or PC Manager may be pre-insta ed on your computer. To open it, enter the software name
in Windows Search and se ect the matched resu t.
Note: If Lenovo Vantage is not pre-insta ed, you can down oad it from Microsoft Store.
Connect to networks
Your computer he ps you connect to the wor d through a wired or wire ess network.
Connect to Wi-Fi networks
If your computer inc udes a wire ess adapter, you can connect your computer to Wi-Fi networks.
Step 1. C ick the network icon in the Windows notification area. A ist of nearby networks is disp ayed.
Note: If no network is disp ayed, check whether the airp ane mode is turned on.
Step 2. Se ect a network and c ick Connect. Provide security key if prompted.
Note: The network key is usua y managed by the network administrator.
Forget a Wi-Fi network
Windows saves a ist of Wi-Fi networks you have connected to, a ong with their passwords and other
settings. By doing this, your computer is automatica y connected when it is in the range of a previous y
connected network. However, if the network password has been changed, you need to forget the network in
order to enter the new password.
Step 1. Se ect Start ➙ Settings ➙ Network & Internet ➙ Wi-Fi.
Step 2. C ick Manage known networks.
Step 3. C ick the network name and c ick Forget.
Turn on or off airplane mode
Airp ane mode is a convenient setting to turn on or off a wire ess communication of your computer. You may
need to turn it on when boarding an airp ane.
Step 1. C ick the notification icon in the Windows notification area.
Step 2. C ick the airp ane mode icon to turn it on or off.

Interact with your computer
Keyboard hotkeys
Some keys on the keyboard are printed with icons. These keys are ca ed hotkeys and can be pressed a one
or in combination with the Fn key to access certain Windows functions or settings quick y. The functions of
hotkeys are symbo ized by the icons printed on them.
Hotkey Function
Mute/Unmute sound.
Decrease/Increase system vo ume.
Enab e/Disab e the integrated microphone.
Re oad Web pages or refresh the screen.
Enab e/Disab e the touchpad.
Turn on/off airp ane mode.
Enab e/Disab e the integrated camera.
Lock the screen.
Switch disp ay devices.
Increase/Decrease screen brightness.
Answer the Skype for BusinessTM ca s.
Note: Supported on se ect versions of Skype for Business.
Hang up the Skype for Business ca s.
Note: Supported on se ect versions of Skype for Business.
Turn on/off or adjust the brightness of the keyboard back ight.
Note: This hotkey must be used with the Fn key.
Hotkey mode
Some hotkeys share keys with functions keys (F1 to F12). The hotkey mode is a UEFI/BIOS setting that
changes how hotkeys (or function keys) are used.
