
Chapter 1. afety information
This hapter presents the following safety information that you need to be familiar with before you servi e a
Lenovo notebook omputer.
General safety
Follow these rules to ensure general safety:
• Observe good housekeeping in the area of the ma hines during and after maintenan e.
• When lifting any heavy obje t:
1. Make sure that you an stand safely without slipping.
2. Distribute the weight of the obje t equally between your feet.
3. Use a slow lifting for e. Never move suddenly or twist when you attempt to lift.
4. Lift by standing or by pushing up with your leg mus les; this a tion removes the strain from the
mus les in your ba k. Do not attempt to lift any object that weighs more than 16 kg (35 lb) or that you
think is too heavy for you.
• Do not perform any a tion that auses hazards to the ustomer, or that makes the equipment unsafe.
• Before you start the ma hine, make sure that other servi e te hni ians and the ustomer's personnel are
not in a hazardous position.
• Pla e removed overs and other parts in a safe pla e, away from all personnel, while you are servi ing the
ma hine.
• Keep your tool ase away from walk areas so that other people will not trip over it.
• Do not wear loose lothing that an be trapped in the moving parts of a ma hine. Make sure that your
sleeves are fastened or rolled up above your elbows. If your hair is long, fasten it.
• Insert the ends of your ne ktie or s arf inside lothing or fasten it with a non- ondu tive lip, about 8
entimeters (3 in hes) from the end.
• Do not wear jewelry, hains, metal-frame eyeglasses, or metal fasteners for your lothing.
Attention: Metal obje ts are good ele tri al ondu tors.
• Wear safety glasses when you are hammering, drilling, soldering, utting wire, atta hing springs, using
solvents, or working in any other onditions that might be hazardous to your eyes.
• After servi e, reinstall all safety shields, guards, labels, and ground wires. Repla e any safety devi e that
is worn or defe tive.
• Reinstall all overs orre tly before returning the ma hine to the ustomer.
• Fan louvers on the ma hine help to prevent overheating of internal omponents. Do not obstru t fan
louvers or over them with labels or sti kers.
Electrical safety
Observe the following rules when working on ele tri al equipment.
Important: Use only approved tools and test equipment. Some hand tools have handles overed with a
soft material that does not insulate you when working with live ele tri al urrents. Many ustomers have,
near their equipment, rubber floor mats that ontain small ondu tive fibers to de rease ele trostati
dis harges. Do not use this type of mat to prote t yourself from ele tri al sho k.
• Find the room emergen y power-off (EPO) swit h, dis onne ting swit h, or ele tri al outlet. If an ele tri al
a ident o urs, you an then operate the swit h or unplug the power ord qui kly.
• Do not work alone under hazardous onditions or near equipment that has hazardous voltages.
• Dis onne t all power before:
– Performing a me hani al inspe tion
– Working near power supplies
