Chapter1.Saetyinormation
Thetopicprovidessafetyguidelinesthatyouneedtoreadbeforeyouinstalltheserverinarackcabinet.
Reviewthedocumentationthatcomeswiththerackcabinetforsafetyandcablinginformation.Beforeyou
installtheserverinarackcabinet,reviewthefollowingguidelines:
Notes:
•UsetheM6screwsthatcomewithsliderailstoinstalltheserverinarackcabinetifyouplantotransport
therackcabinettoanotherlocationwiththeserverinstalledortherackisinavibration-pronearea.
•Youcaninstallthecablemanagementarmoneithersideoftherack.Theseinstructionsareshownwith
thecablemanagementarmmountedontheleftside.Theinstallationinstructionsinthisdocumentcanbe
reversedifyouareinstallingthecablemanagementarmontheothersideoftherack.
•Twoormorepeoplearerequiredtoinstalldevices2Uorlargerinarackcabinet.
•Seetheserverdocumentationforthemaximumroomairtemperature.
•Donotblockanyairvents;usually15cm(6in.)ofspaceprovidesproperairflow.
•Donotleaveopenspacesaboveorbelowaninstalledserverinyourrackcabinet.Tohelpprevent
damagetoservercomponents,alwaysinstallablankfillerpaneltocovertheopenspaceandtohelp
ensureproperaircirculation.
•Installtheserveronlyinarackcabinetwithperforateddoors.
•Planthedeviceinstallationstartingfromthebottomoftherackcabinet.
•Installtheheaviestdeviceinthebottomoftherackcabinet.
•Donotextendmorethanonedeviceoutoftherackcabinetatthesametime.
•Removetherackdoorsandsidepanelstoprovideeasieraccessduringinstallation.
•Connecttheservertoaproperlygroundedoutlet.
•Donotoverloadthepoweroutletwhenyouinstallmultipledevicesintherackcabinet.
•Installtheserverinarackthatmeetsthefollowingrequirements:
–Minimumdepthof70mm(2.76in.)betweenthefrontmountingflangeandinsideofthefrontdoor.
–Minimumdepthof157mm(6.18in.)betweentherearmountingflangeandinsideofthereardoor.
–Minimumdepthof718mm(28.27in.)andmaximumdepthof762mm(30in.)betweenthefrontand
rearmountingflangestosupporttheuseofthecablemanagementarm.
Note:ThemaximumdistancebetweenthefrontandtherearEIArailsoftherackis810mm(31.9in.).

•Alwayslowerthelevelingpadsontherackcabinet.
•Alwaysinstallthestabilizerbracketsontherackcabinet.
•Alwaysinstalltheheaviestdevicesinthebottomotherackcabinet.
•Donotextendmultipledevicesromtherackcabinetsimultaneously,unlesstherack-mounting
instructionsdirectyoutodoso.Multipledevicesextendedintotheservicepositioncancause
yourrackcabinettotip.
•IyouarenotusingtheIBM9308rackcabinet,securelyanchortherackcabinettoensure
itsstability.

Theservercomeswithallofthehardwarethatisnecessaryforyoutoinstalltheserverintherackcabinet.
Thefollowingillustrationsdisplaytheitemsthatyouneedtoinstalltheserverintherackcabinet.Ifanyitems
aremissingordamaged,contactyourplaceofpurchase.

•Youwillneedboththesliderailboxkitandthecablemanagementarmboxkitforthisinstallation.
•Thehook-and-loopfastenersarelocatedonthecablemanagementarm.

Identiyingtherackspaceortheserver
Thistopicprovidesinformationonidentifyingthespaceneededtoinstalltheserverintherackcabinet.
Whenyouinstallthe2Userver,besuretochoosetheappropriaterackspacetoinstalltheserverinthe
rackasindicatedbelow:
1.InstallthesliderailsinthebottomUofthe2Uareaintherack.
2.Selectanavailable2Uspaceinyourracktoinstallyourserver.

2.Ifyourfrontsliderailsareshippedwiththefrontlatchesintheclosedposition,completethefollowing
step:
a.Openthelatchbypushingthebluebuttonin1andpushingthelatchback2.

1.Selectthefirstsliderailyouwanttoinstall.

3.Slidetherailsintotherackcabinettolocktherearofthesliderailsintotherackcabinet.

1.PullthesliderailsforwardandlocatethefrontlatchesintheappropriateUspacesinfrontoftherack
EIArails.
2.MakesurethatthefrontendisbeingrotatedintopositionwiththefrontlatchinfrontoftheEIA
railoftherack.

Toinstallthefrontendofthesliderails,completethefollowingsteps:
1.Pressthebluebuttontoclosethebracketwiththepins.
2.Movethesliderailupanddowntoensuretherailisfullyengaged.
3.Repeatthestepsinthefollowingsectionstoinstalltheotherrailintotherackcabinet:

1.Pullthesliderailsforward1untilthesliderailsclickintoplace.
2.Carefullylifttheserver.Tiltitintopositionoverthesliderailssothattherearnailheads2ontheserver
lineupwiththeslotsinthesliderails.
3.Lowertheserverdownuntiltherearnailheadsslipintothetworearslots.
4.Slowlylowerthefrontoftheserver3untiltheothernailheadsgointotheotherslotsonthesliderails.
Note:Makesurethefrontlatchcoversthefrontnailheadtoensuretheserverissecuredtothesliderails.

•Theouterrailofthecablemanagementsupportbarmustbeinstalledonthesidethatthecable

1.Alignthecablemanagementarmstopbracketparalleltothesliderail.
2.Lowertheendofthecablemanagementsupportbar1tothesamesliderailtowhichyouplantoattach
thecablemanagementarm.
3.Rotatethecablemanagementsupportbartowardstherearoftheserver2.

supportbar.
2.Placethetablocatedontheundersideofthecablemanagementsupportbarintothelowerhole
inthecablemanagementarmstopbracket1.
3.Rotatethecablemanagementarmstopbracket2untilthemetaltabfacesthebackofthesliderail.

1.Installthecablemanagementarmstopbracket(withcapitalletterO)ontheouterslidemember(with
capitalletterO).

sliderails.
3.Slidethecablemanagementarmtabsintoboththeinsideandtheoutsideslotsofthesliderail.
4.Pushthetabsuntiltheysnapintoplace.

1.Opentheblueretainingclipsonthecablemanagementarmtoallowthecablestoberoutedinthe
cablemanagementarm.
2.Attachthepowercordsandothercablestotherearoftheserver(includingkeyboard,monitor,and
mousecables,ifrequired).
3.Routethecablesandpowercordsinthecablemanagementarm.
4.Closetheretainingclipsonthecablemanagementarm.
