Start-up guide
Help Spider-Man to restore his reputation! Let your favourite superhero guide you
throughout 80 learning activities in French and in English, for endless hours of fun! To learn
all about your new “JUNIORS’ PAD” computer, carefully read this instruction manual. Ask
for an adult’s help to change the batteries and to read the safety instructions.
To turn your computer on, press the “ON/OFF” key
, located on the top side of the computer.
Your computer is bilingual. All activities can then
be played in English, or in Spanish. Press the
“LANGUAGE” key at anytime to toggle between
the two languages.
Once you have chosen the language in which you want
to play, you have access to 40 activities, divided in 7
categories :
• Letters
• Words
• French
• Mathematics
• Logic
• Games
• Music
To choose a category, select it by pressing the
corresponding “category” key.
To select an activity, use the arrow keys of the keyboard
and then conrm your choice by pressing the “ENTER”
key .
Note: if you want more details on each activity, see the
section named « Description of the activities », located
on page 23 of this manual.
To shut your computer off, press the “ON/OFF” key
, located on the top side of the computer.

Contents of the packaging
When unpacking, ensure that the following elements are included:
1 x “JUNIORS’ PAD” computer
1 x instruction manual
WARNING: All packaging materials, such as tape, plastic sheets, wire ties and tags are not
part of this game and should be discarded for your child’s safety.
Battery information
Your “JUNIORS’ PAD” laptop works with 3 x 1,5V AA/LR6
type batteries (included).
Note: This product is supplied with batteries for demonstration
purposes.
They should be replaced with new batteries before use.
1. Using a screwdriver, open the battery compartment
located under the computer.
2. Install 3 AA/LR6 alkaline type batteries observing
carefully the polarity indicated at the bottom of the battery
compartment and as per the diagram shown opposite.
3. Close the battery compartment and tighten the screw.
Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged. Rechargeable batteries are
to be removed from the game before being charged. Rechargeable batteries are
only to be charged under adult supervision. Different types of batteries or new and
used batteries are not to be mixed. Only batteries of the same or equivalent type as
recommended are to be used. Batteries are to be inserted with the correct polarity.
Exhausted batteries are to be removed from the game. The supply terminals are not
to be short circuited. Do not throw batteries into a re. Remove the batteries if you
are not going to use the game for a long period of time.
WARNING: Mal-function or loss of memory may be caused by strong frequency
interference or electrostatic discharge. Should any abnormal function occur, reset the
unit with the “RESET” function (by inserting a sharp element, like a paper clip, in the
corresponding opening/hole, located under the computer), or remove the batteries and
insert them again.

Keys
ON/OFF: Press this key to turn the computer on or off.
Note: the computer automatically shuts off after approximately 3 minutes
of inactivity.
Demo: Press this key at any time to launch a short demonstra tion of
your “JUNIORS’ PAD” laptop’s features.
Mode: All the activities start in “1 player” mode. Press this key to switch
from “1 player” mode to “2 players” mode.
Note: to discover which activities can be played in “2 players” mode (
icon), see the section named “Description of the activities”, located on
page 23 of this manual.
Level: Press this key to select one of the 3 different level options: the
“automatic progression” level (default setting), level 1 or level 2. When
you select the “automatic progression” level, the computers follows your
progress: you switch to level 2 when you give 6 correct answers in a row.
But if you give 4 wrong answers in a row, you will go back to level 1!
Note:
• in 2 players mode, the “automatic progression” level is disabled: you
can only choose between level 1 and level 2.
• to discover the activities that can be played in 3 different levels (
icon), see the section named “Description of the activities” located on
page 23 of this manual.
Activity category: To choose an activity category, select it by pressing
the corresponding “category” key.

Surprise: Press this key to play a surprise activity (one you did not play
before or one of the less played activities).
Language: Press this key at anytime to switch between English and
Spanish.
Enter: Press this key to start an activity, conrm a choice or an answer.
Esc: Press this key to leave an activity or to go back.
Backspace: Press this key to erase one or several character(s) (letters
or gures) that you have just typed.
Figures (x10: 1 to 0): Press these keys to type gures/numbers in
activities of the “MATHEMATICS” category.
Letters (x26: A to Z): Press these keys to type letters in words/letters
activities, but also to play musical notes in activities of the “MUSIC”
category.
Note: to type accented letters, press and hold a letter until the right
accent is displayed.
Arrow keys (Up/Down/Left/Right): Press these keys to move the
cursor in one of the four directions, or to play the various activities.
3D Spider-Man key: Press this key to access exclusive newspaper’s
articles about your hero. This key also allows you to check the number of
rescues you still need to accomplish in order to restore his reputation!
Note: to discover the activities that allow you to unlock articles ( icon),
see the section named “Description of the activities”, located on page 23
of this manual.
This key is required when typing Spanish words only.

Let’s play!
Get ready for an amazing adventure! A bridge has tumbled down during a terrible ght
and Spider-Man has been wrongly accused… Help him to restore his reputation by
rescuing people from dangerous situations. Each game round you win will help your
favourite superhero to rescue another person in danger. When you have rescued enough
people, see Spider-Man’s reputation improve and discover newspaper cuttings about his
daring deeds!
Once the opening audio sequence and the welcome message have been played, select
the desired category by pressing one of the “category” keys. Use the keys to browse
through the activities of the category. When the desired game is displayed, press
to conrm and start the round. You can press the key at any time to go back to the
activities list. To go directly to another category, press one of the “category” keys.
To play a surprise activity, press the “Surprise” key.
The activities are played in 6 questions-rounds. For most of them, you have 2 chances to
nd the correct answer. Several activities can be played in “2 players” mode and include 3
difculty levels.
Description of the activities
LETTERS
1. Learn your letters
Press one of the keyboard’s letter keys. The letter is displayed on the screen and the
computer pronounces the sound of the letter.
2. Vowels and consonants
Try to recognize if the letter displayed on the screen is a vowel or a consonant. Use
the keys to select the correct answer and press to conrm. If you give
the wrong answer, Spider-Man will show you the solution and then display a new
letter.
3. Order of the alphabet
A letter is displayed on the screen and the computer asks you to nd the letter that
comes before, or after, in the alphabet. Type the answer on the keyboard. After two
wrong answers, Spider-Man will show you the solution and then display a new letter.
Automatic level progression: give 6 correct answers in a row to switch to level 2.
Level 1: play with uppercase letters.
Level 2: play with lowercase letters.

4. Rhymes
The computer displays a word and asks you to nd the word that rhymes with it. You
have two choices. Use the keys to select the correct answer and press
to conrm. If you give the wrong answer, Spider-Man will show you the solution and
then display a new word.
Example: the word “actor” is displayed and you must choose between “tractor” and
“movie”. Use the keys to select “tractor” and press to conrm.
5. Words out of order
3 words are displayed on the screen and you must sort them in alphabetical order. Use
the keys to select the word that comes rst, and then press to conrm.
Use the keys to select the word that comes second and press to conrm.
After two wrong answers, Spider-Man will show you the solution and then display new
words.
Automatic level progression: give 6 correct answers in a row to switch to level 2.
Level 1: the 3 displayed words begin with a different letter.
Level 2: be careful! 2 of the displayed words begin with the same letter!
WORDS
6. Memory word
A word is displayed on the screen for a few seconds. Try to memorize it and type it on
your keyboard without any mistake. Press to conrm. After two wrong answers,
Spider-Man will show you the solution and then display a new word.
Automatic level progression: give 6 correct answers in a row to switch to level 2.
Level 1: the screen displays the exact number of letters of the word with dashes.
Level 2: the screen doesn’t display the number of letters, only one ashing dash.

7. Syllable jumble
A word’s syllables have been jumbled up. Place them back in the right order. Use the
keys to select the rst syllable and press to conrm. Proceed the same way
to select the next syllables. To select the last syllable, you only need to press .
After two wrong answers, Spider-Man will show you the solution and then display a new
word.
Automatic level progression: give 6 correct answers in a row to switch to level 2.
Level 1: rst, the computer displays a 2 syllables word, and then the 2 syllables to put in
the right order.
Level 2: the computer doesn’t display any word, but only the 3 syllables to put in the right
order.
Example:
• “der” and “spi” are displayed. You must nd the word “spider” (level 1).
• “mi”, “ly” and “fa” are displayed. You must nd the word “family” (level 2).
8. Missing letter
A word scrolls fast on the screen from right to left or inversely. After the word has
disappeared, it is displayed again but a letter is missing. Type in the missing letter and
press to conrm. After two wrong answers, Spider-Man will show you the solution
and then display a new word.
Automatic level progression: give 6 correct answers in a row to switch to level 2.
Level 1: the word to nd is easy and it scrolls once completely before appearing with one
missing letter.
Level 2: the word to nd is more complicated and it scrolls with a missing letter.
9. Word scramble
A word scrolls fast on the screen from right to left or inversely. After the word has
disappeared, it is displayed again but the letters have been jumbled up. Use the
keys to select the rst letter of the word and press to conrm. Use the same
method to select the next letters and put them back in the correct order. After two wrong
answers, Spider-Man will show you the solution and then display a new word.
Automatic level progression: give 6 correct answers in a row to switch to level 2.
Level 1: easy words.
Level 2: more complicated words.

10. Opposites (Antonyms)
Find the opposite of the word displayed on the screen. Use the keys to select the
correct answer, and press to conrm. If you give the wrong answer, Spider-Man
will show you the solution and then display a new word.
Automatic level progression: give 6 correct answers in a row to switch to level 2.
Level 1: easy words.
Level 2: more complicated words.
Example: the word “simple” is displayed on the screen and you must nd its opposite
between the words “hard” and “rain”. Select “hard” and press to conrm.
11. Synonyms
Find the synonym of the word displayed on the screen. A synonym is a word which
carries the same (or very similar) meaning as another word. Use the keys to select
the correct answer, and press to conrm. If you give the wrong answer, Spider-
Man will show you the solution and then display a new word.
Automatic level progression: give 6 correct answers in a row to switch to level 2.
Level 1: easy words.
Level 2: more complicated words.
Example: the word “walk” is displayed on the screen and you must nd its synonym
between the words “stroll” and “hop”. Select “stroll” and press to conrm.
12. Proverbs
A proverb is displayed on the screen but one word is missing. Type in the
missing word on your keyboard and press to conrm. After two wrong answers,
Spider-Man will show you the solution and then display a new proverb.
Automatic level progression: give 6 correct answers in a row to switch to level 2.
Level 1: the rst letter of the missing word is displayed.
Level 2: the rst letter of the missing word is not displayed anymore.
Example: the computer can display the proverb “There’s no smoke without _ _ _ _”.
The missing word is “re”.
