System Description
1.1 General information
M-Fire is an installation specially designed and manufactured for training how to extinguish small fires. In
addition to the various fire possibilities, several modules exist (optional) to realistically reproduce all
kinds of different fires. With these possibilities the M-Fire is suitable for all Fire Departments and Training
Companies or for those who wanted to make their training program as safe and realistic as possible.
The M-Fire can deal whit all suitable fire extinguishers (e.g. water, CO2, foam and powder).
Extinguishing with powder will surely impact your maintenance, after you are using powder-extinguishers
please notice to clean all parts very carefully! Therefore, we advise you to not use powder extinguishers.
The operating unit is suited out with wheels and handles to make transport easier.
The M-Fire is designed for outdoor use. Make sure to keep a safe distance between the M-Fire and other
flammable or combustible objects and materials. The M-Fire has been developed for use in the open air
but under certain conditions can also be used indoors. The appropriate space and good ventilation are,
of course, essential. Described in chapter 2.1.
The M-Fire is manufactured by:

1.2 System construction
The operating unit is made of stainless steel manufactured housing and contains a burner which creates
“surface fires” or concentrated “point fires” (adjustable in height).
The operating unit is connected to the control unit, a gas hose and a 12V-DC power cable. The 12V
power supply can be obtained by using a AC adapter with sufficient power, an external battery or a jump
starter. The gas supply consists of a propane gas cylinder with pressure reducer 0.5-1.5 bar (6kg/h) and
a gas hose with quick connectors.
The operating unit is connectable with the M-Fire control unit. The control unit is provided with control
buttons and indicators for power et cetera. The console unit is also provided with a rechargeable battery
which enables the M-Fire to work without an external power source.
1.3 Safety aspects
The operating unit uses a safe power supply 12 Volt DC.
The power supply can be shut off by switching the ‘Off-Hand-Auto’ button on the control unit to ‘Off’.
The power supply automatically shuts off if the M-Fire is not being used for 5 minutes. In case of low
voltage, the M-Fire shuts off (to avoid internal damage, when using a battery)
The gas supply can be shut off by closing the valve on top of the gas bottle.
The M-Fire base unit is water proof. The handheld controller is splash proof.

How to use the M-Fire
2.1 Connecting and make it work
Place the operating unit on a stable and flat surface.
Connect the gas hose with quick connectors pressure reducer (max. 1.5 bar) to a gas cylinder. Connect
the handheld controller and power to the M-Fire base unit.
Open the gas valve and check for any leaks.
The M-Fire is now ready for use.
We do not recommend using the M-Fire in a confined space, but, if you do, the following requirements
must be met:
•The distance between the M-Fire, ceiling and walls must at least be 3 meters. The walls and
ceiling in the confined space must be made of non-combustible material, and, must be able to
withstand high temperatures. The confined space’s volume must be at least 150 m³.
•Sufficient ventilation must be provided to a) ensure oxygen supply for combustion, b) prevent
flammable or explosive mixtures by any residual gases. Since propane gas is heavier than air,
any residual gas will sink to the floor. Ventilation along the floor surface is mandatory.
•The accessory “Deep Fat Fryer” must not be used within a confined space.
2.2 Operation
Turn the M-Fire on by briefly pressing the ‘Start’ button.
2.2.1 “Manual-operation”
The instructor controls the M-Fire by pressing and holding the “start” button. The M-Fire will ignite the
operating unit automatically by electrical igniters. Before ignition you will hear an acoustic signal; 4 beeps
within 2.5 s.
After the acoustic signal the M-Fire will ignite its operating unit in
accordance the selected fire:
A. High pointed flame
B. Operating unit low pointed flame
C. Low pointed flame
The ignition starts simultaneously with the gas supply and stops
automatically after fire detection. If the container does not ignite after max.
10 seconds, the process stops as well.
After extinguishing (either detected by sensors or by releasing the start
button), the gas supply stops, and, an audible signal is emitted (a long beep
of approx. 1.5 seconds). After a waiting time of approx. 5 seconds the M-
Fire will be ready for use again. If there is no ignition within 10 seconds, the
gas supply stops, and, the Fail LED will flash slowly. After 5 seconds the M-
Fire is ready for use again.
The maximum burning time is approx. 10 minutes. After a waiting time of 5
seconds the M-Fire can be restart.

2.2.2 “Auto-operation”
The instructor will operate the M-Fire by pressing and holding the “start” button for a while.
The M-Fire will automatically ignite the gas by electrical igniters; a specific cycle will be started
(depended by ‘selection’ switch).
Before ignition you will hear an acoustic signal; 4 beeps in 2.5 seconds.
Selector switch in position:
A: Increasing Fire:
The M-Fire will start with the low pointed flame. After 20 seconds the tray will ignite. After another 10
seconds the tray and high pointed flame join. If the tray is not ignited after 10 seconds, the ignition
stops and the Fail LED starts flashing slowly. After extinguishing (either detected by sensors or by
releasing the start button), the gas supply stops, and, an audible signal is emitted (a long beep of
approx. 1.5 seconds). After 5 seconds the M-Fire will be ready for use again. Maximum period of time
for this cycle is 60 seconds.
B. Re-ignition:
Fire: main burner and low pointed flame will burn for a maximum period of time of 60 seconds. If the
burner is not ignited after 10 seconds, the ignition stops and the Fail LED starts flashing slowly.
When extinguishing is detected, the gas supply will be reduced within the following 60 seconds. No
acoustic signal will be produced. After 2 seconds the fire increases. This cycle occurs a maximum of
two times.
When no there is no re-ignition after 5 seconds, the fire is put out sufficiently. The gas supply and
ignition are stopped, and, an acoustic signal is displayed. After 5 seconds the M-Fire is ready for use
again.
C. Intermittent:
The pointed flame will switch from high-pointed to low-pointed each time (2 seconds) and over a
period of time of maximum 60 seconds. If the burner is not ignited after 10 seconds, the ignition stops
and the Fail LED starts flashing slowly. After extinguishing (either detected by sensors or by releasing
the start button), the gas supply stops, and, an audible signal is emitted (a long beep of approx. 1.5
seconds). After 5 seconds the M-Fire will be ready for use again.
When “Auto-operation” is selected the cycle can be stopped any time by releasing the “start” button.
After a certain cycle (extinguishing observed by detectors or after releasing the “start” button in Manual
operation) the gas supply will be shut off and an acoustic signal will be audible (long beep 1.5 seconds).
This signal is a “Safe” signal.
When using the closed attachment plate only the point flames will work.
In case of an emergency the system can be shut off by switching the switch “Off-Hand-Auto” to “Off” or
by closing the valve on top of the gas bottle.
Always close the gas bottle after use.
2.3 Transport
Ensure yourself the gas bottle is closed. Disconnect the gas hose from the operating unit. We advise to
transport the gas bottle separate from the M-Fire, if possible. The operating unit and the control unit are
provided with wheels and handles to make transport easier.

2.4 Maintenance
The operating unit is made of stainless steel and other parts out of copper or yellow brass.
Notice the following points:
•Avoid rough handling
•Clean the operating unit each time it has been used with water and a non-aggressive detergent
to guarantee its operation.
•Clean the both detectors (in front and rear) to guarantee its operation. Especially when using
powder.
•Often check the gas hose inside the operating unit to avoid jams. Keep these openings clean.
•Remove metal parts in the operating unit otherwise corrosion is possible with Stainless Steel.
It is recommended that a complete check be carried out periodically by the supplier.
2.5 Troubleshooting
Check the condition of the gas hose every time before use. Immediately close the gas valve and
replace the specific hoses when discovering leaks.
The fast flickering of the Fail LED (approx. 5 times per second) indicates:
•An internal error in the electronics. As long as this error is unsolved, no control of throttle valves
and ignition is possible!
•Overheating of the flame detection sensors. Until the temperature has returned to normal, no
control of throttle valves or ignition is possible!
When the “start” button is pressed in time of failure, an acoustic signal audible will be produced as long
the button is pressed.
An over-temperature will recover itself. When other failures occur please contact LION.
If the power supply is lower than 11 volts, the M-Fire shuts down (to avoid internal damage, when using
a battery). When the power supply is restored, the M-Fire can be turned on.
2.6 Warranty
•When using and maintaining the M-Fire according this manual we guarantee a failure free
working.
•LION will replace any part of the M-Fire in case the malfunctioning is a result of a material or
construction fault, within 12 months after the original purchase date.
•LION will not take any responsibility for any damage caused by using or defects concerning the
M-Fire.
•In case of defects or damages, in which has been established that the operating and
maintenance instructions have not been followed, or, as a result of rough and / or unjustified
handling, any claim regarding to LION will be denied.

Instructions for using the attachment
Attention: When using an attachment with the attachment plate the grating must be removed.
6.1 M-Fire “Deep Fat Fryer”
The “Deep Fat Fryer” attachment is an option for the M-Fire and is intended to demonstrate the effect of
trying to extinguish a chip-pan fire with water. This accessory can be supplied with its own remote control
(power supply + control cable) or with a connection cable designed for use with an M-Fire control
console.
USE:
1. Set up the M-Fire unit:
•Position the burner unit out of the wind, at a sufficient distance from buildings and other objects.
•Ensure the maximum distance (upwind) between the operation console and the burner unit.
•Place the “deep fat fryer” attachment onto the burner unit; do not put on the lid.
•Connect the attachment to the “option” connector on the console.
2. Fill the fryer with lamp oil
3. Position the water container above it and fill with water (approx. 100ml, i.e. a small plastic cupful).
4. Allow the M-Fire unit to burn: high pointed flame (position A), manual operation. Heat the fat until it
spontaneously catches fire. This will take a while, because the temperature of the fat will need to be
over 300ºC. Assume approximately 5 minutes, depending on conditions such as the wind and the
ambient temperature.
5. Once the fat has caught fire, you can release the Start button. Allow the fat to burn for a moment.
6. You can then show the spectators how to extinguish this fire using a well-fitting lid. After a few
seconds, you can demonstrate what happens if the lid is removed again. The fat will spontaneously
re-ignite.
7. Ensure that the spectators are far enough away from the burner unit and then press the “Option”
button. The water will fall into the burning fat, resulting in a sudden powerful spread of the fire
coupled with a major release of heat.
8. Next, place the lid on the pan again and allow the remaining fat to cool off further. Never try to
extinguish the fire further with water.
9. Thoroughly clean the attachment, the M-Fire combustion tray and the connecting cables,
pipes and connectors.
WARNING:
•The deep fat fryer fire should only be used when there is very little or no wind.
•Position the burner unit out of the wind, at a sufficient distance from buildings and other objects.
•Never fill the water container when the fat is already at a high temperature.
•Ensure the maximum distance between the operation console and the burner unit.
•Spectators should stand far enough away from the burner unit.
•Never try to extinguish the fire further with water.
