Double Signal Bridge
Owner’s Manual

Congratulations on your purchase of the Lionel Double Signal Bridge! It features
two train-activated red and green lights to
help you control the rail traffic on your
Lionel layout. The Double Signal Bridge is
capable of spanning up to two sections of
O gauge track.

Positioning the Signals
The Signal Bridge features two red and green signals that can face in either
direction and be mounted in several posi-
tions on the bridge structure, depending on
the indication desired. If the bridge spans
only one line of track, the two signals can be
mounted over each other in the center of the
span and face in opposite directions. See
Figure 1 below. In two track installations, if
the bridge spans two “northbound” tracks,
both signals should face “south.” If one of
the tracks is “southbound,” the signal over it
should face “north.”
To reposition a signal on the bridge
structure, remove the screw on the bottom of
the signal. Place the signal in the desired
location, making sure that the hole in the
bottom of the signal lines up with the slot in
the bridge structure. Replace the screw and
tighten it securely.

As illustrated in Figure 2, wire the Signal Bridge with only one 153C Contactor,
and an approaching train will cause both
signals to change. Your Signal Bridge will
operate best at 12-18 volts.
To make the proper connec-
tions, the ends of the wires
must be stripped back
1/4” to 3/8”. Use a pair of wire
strippers or a sharp knife to
strip the wires. Only an adult
should perform this task!
Always use care when stripping
wires.

Single-Pole Double
Throw Switch
Caution!
You may choose to wire the Signal Bridge with two 153C Contactors, so that trains
approaching the signal from either direction
activate the signal. Wire the accessory as
illustrated in Figure 3.
As illustrated in Figure 4, you may choose to
substitute a single-pole double-throw switch for
one of the 153C Contactors to control the Signal
Bridge manually.

Installing the Double Signal Bridge with your 153C Contactor(s)
Be sure that the track is not fastened too tightly to your layout. The track must be able to
bend under the weight of the train.
1. Slide the 153C Contactor(s) under one of the ties in your track. The track
tie will rest on the pressure plate. Refer to Figure 5.
2. Place the Double Signal Bridge to one side of the single 153C Contactor
Controller or between the two 153C Contactors. Slide the metal arm at the
base of the Signal Bridge under the track. You may use the hole at the end
of this arm to attach the Signal Bridge to your layout.
To keep your train from hitting the Signal Bridge, be sure that you leave enough
clearance between the base of the accessory and your track.
3. Use the thumbscrew on the 153 Contactor to adjust the sensitivity of the
trigger.
Stop your train two feet from the Contactor so that it does not press the trigger. As illustrated
in Figure 5, turn the thumbscrew adjustment on the Contactor up or down until the red light
comes on, then reverse the thumbscrew until the red light just goes out (and the green light
comes back on). When properly adjusted, a light pressure on the track will activate the acces-
sory. The red light should stay on until the last part of the train has passed the Contactor.
