2.0 Overview of the ZX-T
Before connecting the power cable to the ZX-T, set the voltage
switch on the power supply (located in the back of the ZX-T) to
the correct input voltage.
Special Icons –Throughout this manual, there are two icons that can be seen. Please
pay close attention when any of these two icons are found. These icons highlight
additional information or important warnings on specific topics.

GETTING STARTED
Logicube ZX-Tower™ User’s Manual 5
The power supply for the ZX-Tower has a manual voltage switch
(115V/230V) located in the back of the ZX-Tower. Set the correct
voltage input before attaching the power cable to avoid damage.

GETTING STARTED

2.1 Turning the ZX-T on and off
Before connecting the power cable to the ZX-T, set the voltage switch on the
power supply (located in the back of the ZX-T) to the correct input voltage.
The ZX-T comes with a standard power cable that connects to the back of the device. Attach the included
power cable the power connector in the back of the ZX-T.
To turn the ZX-T on, make sure the power switch (located next to the power connector) is set to the ON
position. Press and release the power button located on the top (front) of the ZX-T. The ZX-T will turn on
and start the boot process.
To turn the ZX-T off, press and release the power button located on the top (front) of the ZX-T.
It is not recommended to use the power switch (located in the
back) to turn the ZX-T off. Using the power button located on the
top (front) gracefully shuts down the ZX-T’s Operating System.
2.2 Connecting 3.5” Serial ATA (SATA) and Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Drives
The ZX-T has hot swappable drive bays located in the front of the unit. There are eight (8) 3.5” drive bays
labeled Bay 1 through Bay 8.
1. Open the drive bay of your choice by gently pulling the release latch.
2. Carefully swing the drive bay door open all the way to the right.
3. Insert the 3.5” drive face up (SATA/SAS connectors should be facing in toward the back of the ZX-
T) and push it mostly in. Do not push it in all the way.
4. To push the SATA/SAS drive all the way in, close the drive bay door. You should hear a ‘click’
when the drive bay door is closed all the way.
When connecting/disconnecting drives using drive adapters, it is
recommended to keep the drive connected to the adapter, then
connect/disconnect the adapter to/from the SAS/SATA cable, or
connect/disconnect the SAS/SATA cable from the drive bay.
The ZX-T ports are hot swappable. Drives that are not being used in any wipe
task can be disconnected any time.
Some drives, however, are not hot swappable. Please check with the drive
manufacturer to find out if the drive being used does not support hot swapping.
When disconnecting drives, it is very important to make sure the
drives are not being used on any task. Disconnecting drives while
the ZX-T is using the drive for a task may cause data loss.

to that bay.
Yellow/Amber LED
oOFF –There is no activity to the drive/bay.
oON (Blinking) –There is activity on the bay. This is typically blinking when a drive is
connected (while the ZX-T is gathering drive information details) or during a wipe task as
the ZX-T is writing to it, or a secure erase is being performed.
oON (Solid) –This LED will turn solid if a drive that is being wiped stops working, alerting
that there may be a problem with the drive.
There are also four (4) LEDs to the left of the front USB ports. Each LED is labeled 1 through 4, which
corresponds to the USB port (From left to right: U1, U2, U3, and U4).
2.5 Connecting other drive types
Adapters may require the ZX-T SAS/SATA extension adapter (F-ADP-SATA-X-ZC) or
the ZX-T 2.5” to 3.5” SAS/SATA drive cartridge adapter (F-ADP-Z-2.5-SAS).
When connecting/disconnecting drives using drive adapters, it is recommended to
keep the drive connected to the adapter, then connect/disconnect the adapter to/from
the SAS/SATA cable, or connect/disconnect the SAS/SATA cable from the drive bay,
ZX-T supports other drive types, including M.2 (SATA or AHCI based), PATA (IDE), mSATA, micro SATA,

Secure erase will not work on drives connected
through the USB, Thunderbolt, or rear expansion ports.
Wipe Patterns –Allows the user to set a specific pattern to use for wiping the drive. The number
of passes is customizable (up to 7 passes) along with the type of data written for each pass. In
addition, a 7-pass DoD wipe can be set with pre-selected pass values.
The unit can perform one or both methods on the same drive, using the same task. Each method will be
performed in order (Secure Erase then Wipe Patterns) depending on which methods are chosen. For
example, if both Secure Erase and Wipe Patterns are selected, the unit will perform a Secure Erase first
then a Wipe Patterns wipe.

3.2.1 Step-By-Step Instructions –Wipe
1. Select Wipe from the types of operation on the left side.
2. Tap the Target icon and select one or more drives then tap the OK icon.
It is recommended to use the same capacity drives per task.
When smaller capacity drives are wiped together with larger
capacity drives, the smaller drives will finish first. However,
the ports will not be available until the entire task is finished.
3. Tap the Settings icon and choose the type of wipe to be performed (Secure Erase
and/or Wipe Patterns). If Wipe Patterns is selected, choose the type of Wipe
Pattern to perform (DoD or Custom).
4. If the drive has an HPA or DCO area that needs to be wiped, tap the HPA/DCO
icon and select Yes to wipe the HPA/DCO area of the drive.

5. Tap the Passes icon to edit the number of passes and what gets written on each
pass.
6. Optional: Tap Job Info to set the Job Name, Job ID, Operator, Other ID, or Job
Notes.
7. Tap the Start icon to start the wipe task. A Secure Erase will be performed first (if
selected), then a Wipe Pattern (if selected).
8. When finished, the status will show “COMPLETED”. At this point, it is
recommended to tap Reset Task to reset the task, so the drive bays properly
reset and not show as being used or assigned for other tasks.
3.3 Task Macro
This operation allows up to five (5) macros that can be set. Each macro can run up to
nine (9) tasks sequentially (one after another). For example, to perform a Wipe Patterns
wipe with more than 7 passes, a macro can be set to perform the Wipe 1 task with 7
passes followed by the Wipe 2 task with another 7 passes.
Details on the different screens found
in the Task Macro operation can be
found in Section 5.3: Task Macro.
Each of the five macros can be set by tapping on the Macro number as seen in the next picture:
Each task or operation must be set up before creating the macro. For example, to set up a Task Macro
that will perform 14-pass wipe, users must first set up the wipe task. Once the wipe task has been set
up, the Task Macro can be set.
