1.General Description
• The Infrared Ear Thermometer has been carefully developed for accurate, safe and fast
temperature measurements in the ear.
• The Infrared Ear Thermometer displays the body temperature of the measured object by measuring
the thermal radiation in the ear cavity.
• However, as with any thermometer, proper technique is critical to obtaining accurate temperatures,
therefore, read the instructions carefully and thoroughly.
• The Infrared Ear Thermometer is not intended as a substitute for consultation with your physician.
• The device can be used in clinical and home environments.
• Depending on various skin types and thickness, there may be temperature difference.
• Avoid inserting the thermometer into the ear canal too deeply to avoid damaging the eardrum.
• Please read these instructions carefully before using the instrument and keep them in a safe place.

2.Safety Information
• Please consult your doctor if you see symptoms such as unexplained irritability, vomiting, diarrhea,
dehydration, changes in appetite or activity, seizure, muscle pain, shivering, stiff neck, pain when
urinating, etc. in spite of short beeps or absence of fever.
• Please consult your doctor if the thermometer shows elevated temperature.
• This device must only be used for the purposes described in this instruction manual.
• This device must only be used in an ambient temperature range between 15 and 35°C.
• Do not expose this thermometer to electric shocks.
• Do not expose this thermometer to extreme temperature conditions of >50°C or <-20°C.
• Please do not use the device in the environment with relative humidity lower than 20% and higher
than 85%.
• Do not use the device near large electromagnetic fields such as found with cord lessor cellphones.
• Keep the device away from water and heat, including direct sunlight.
• Do not drop or knock the device, and do not use if damaged.
• When the body infrared thermometer should be left in that room during 15 to 20 minutes before
using.
• This product is not intended to diagnose any disease, but is a useful screening tool for temperature,
use of this thermometer is not intended as a substitute for consultation with your physician.
• The Infrared Ear Thermometer is intended for use on people of all ages except pre-term babies
or very small (small-for-gestational age) babies.
• This product is not intended to interpret hypothermic temperatures, do not allow children to take
their temperatures unattended.
• Do not modify this equipment without authorization of the manufacturer.
• Parents/guardians should call the pediatrician upon noticing any unusual sign(s) or symptom(s).
For example, a child who exhibits irritability, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, seizure, changes in
appetite or activity, even in the absence of fever, or who exhibits a low temperature, may still
need to receive medical attention.
• Children who are on antibiotics, analgesics, or antipyretics should not be assessed solely on
temperature readings to determine the severity of their illness.
• Temperature elevation as indicated by this product may signal a serious illness, especially in
adults who are old, frail, have a weakened immune system, or neonates and infants.
• This thermometer contains small parts that can be swallowed or produce a choking hazard to
children, always keep the thermometer out of children’s reach.
• Moreover, please takeout the battery when the thermometer will not be used for a long period.
Digital InfraRed Ear Thermometer

6
• Whether the patient is standing or sitting or laying doesn’t affect the reading.
• Infrared ear thermometers have different accuracy with mercury in glass and electronic
thermometers but are proven to be clinically accurate with variability below the clinically
significant level.
• Please note that proper operation technique, as described in this Manual, and patient cooperation
to allow for that technique are both required for proper use.
Digital InfraRed Ear Thermometer

7
3.Intended Use
• Infrared Ear Thermometer shows the body temperature of tested subject by measuring the internal
temperature of the tested subject’s ear canal.
• Normal body temperature is a range, it varies by site of measurement, and it tends to decrease
with age; It also varies from person to person and fluctuates throughout the day, therefore, it is
important to determine normal temperature ranges.
• This is easily done using Infrared Ear Thermometer, practice taking temperatures on yourself and
healthy family members to determine the normal temperature range.
Note: When consulting your physician, communicate that the ThermoScan temperature is a
temperature measured in the ear and if possible, note the individual’s normal ThermoScan
temperature range as additional reference.
Why measure in the ear?
• The goal of thermometry is to measure core body temperature1 which is the temperature of the
vital organs.
• Ear temperatures accurately reflect core body temperature2, since the eardrum shares blood
supply with the temperature control center in the brain3, the hypothalamus.
• Therefore, changes in body temperature are reflected sooner in the ear than at other sites.
• Axillary temperatures measure skin temperature and may not be a reliable indicator of core body
temperature.
• Oral temperatures are influenced by drinking, eating and mouth breathing.
• Rectal temperatures often lag behind changes in core body temperature and there is a risk of
cross-contamination.

6.How the Infrared Ear Thermometer Measures Ear Temperature
• The Digital Infrared Ear Thermometer measures infrared energy radiated from the eardrum and
the surrounding tissue, this energy is collected through the lens and coverted to a temperature
value.
• The measured reading obtained directly from the eardrum (Tympanic Membrane) can ensure the
most accurate ear temperature.
• Measurements taken from the surrounding tissue of the ear canal generate lower readings and
may result in misdiagnosis of a fever.
• The Digital Infrared Ear Thermometer has been clinically tested and proven to be safe and accurate
when used in accordance with its operating instruction manual.
To avoid an inaccurate measurement:
• Switch on the thermometer by pressing the ON/OFF Button.
• After one beep is heard (and the temperature scale icon is flashing), straighten the ear canal by
gently pulling the middle of the ear back and up.
• Place the probe firmly into the ear canal, press the Start button and keep the probe in the ear
until the thermometer beeps to identify the completion of the measurement.

7.Directions For Use
7-1.How to use your Infrared Ear Thermometer
Note:
• The LCD backlight is red when the temperature is higher than 37.5°C (99.5°F) in order to alert
the patient that he/she may have fever.
Digital InfraRed Ear Thermometer
Press the ON/OFF Button, the LCD is activated to show all segments for 2
seconds.
The last measurement reading will be shown on the display automatically for
two seconds with the ”MEM” icon.
When the °C or °F icon is flashing, a beep sound is heard and the thermometer
is ready for the measurement.
Straighten the ear canal by pulling the ear up and back to give a clear view
of the eardrum.
• For children under 1 year: Pull the ear straight back.
• Children aged 1 year to adult: Pull the ear up and back.
While gently pulling the ear, insert the probe snugly into the ear canal and
press the START Button, release the button and wait for the beep sound.
This is the indication that confirms the end of measurement.
Remove the thermometer from the ear canal, the LCD displays the measured
temperature.

12
• In order to assure the accurate reading, please wait at least 30 seconds after 3-5 continuous
measurements.
• Accumulation ofdirt on thetip of the probe can lead to inaccurate temperature readings or cross
infection between users, so cleaning is necessary before each measurement.
• For cleaning, please follow the instructions in the (Cleaning and Storage) section.
• After cleaning the probe tip with alcohol, it is necessary to wait 5 minutes before taking the next
measurement, in order to allow the thermometer to reach its operating reference temperature.
• Always take the temperature in the same ear, since the temperature readings may be different
from the right ear and left ear.
Advice: See (Errors and trouble shooting) section for more information.
