Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of the Lyman 1500 XP Precision Digital scale.
This is a precision piece of equipment and should be handled with care. Before
using the 1500 XP, please read these instructions fully and become familiar with
its operation and features. If you do not understand some of the operations or have
questions above the use of the scale, call us at 1-800-22-LYMAN (Foreign
Customers may call 860-632-2020).
Set-Up
1. Select a location for the 1500 XP that is level and stable. It is recommended
that the scale be located away from a loading bench equipped with a reloading
press. Most benches are not heavy enough to prevent vibrations being
transferred to the scale. The scale should also be positioned away from any
source of drafts, air currents, or temperature changes. The 1500 XP is sensitive
enough to be affected by these conditions.
2. Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet and connect it to the scale. A series
of lines will be displayed to show that the scale is getting power. (This is only
when the power adapter is used, not with batteries). The scale can also be run
on four AA batteries. To install the batteries, slide open the cover on the
bottom of the scale and install the batteries so that the negative ends are against
the springs.
3. The scale is equipped with a clear plastic dust cover. The cover can be hinged
back or removed if desired. To remove the dust cover, press down on the
button located between the two hinges and slide the cover to the right and off
the hinges. It is recommended that the cover be in place when the scale is not
in use to protect the platform and load cell.
4. For the first use, it is recommended to turn on the scale
and allow it to run for 24 hours. This will help it to
stabilize to its surroundings. Press the ON/OFF
button to turn on the scale.
5. The 1500 XP has a convenient storage compart-
ment tray located in the back area of the scale
body. The powder pan and powder trickler parts are
stored in this tray. To remove the tray, firmly press in on
the tray and quickly release. The tray will pop out slightly so
that it can be slid out of the scale body. See photo.

6. A brush is supplied with the scale to aid in the clean up of any spilled powder,
particularly any that may get beneath the platform.
Calibration
1. It is recommended that the scale be calibrate before each use, or if the scale is
moved or jarred in any way.
2. Press the ZERO button to reset the scale to zero.
3. Press and hold down the CAL button until the display shows “Cal 20” then
release it.
4. Place the supplied 20-gram calibration weight on the platform and press the
CAL button again. (Press and release, do not hold it down.)
5. The scale will now show 0.0 on the display. Remove the 20-gram weight. The
display will now show approximately –308.6.
6. Press the ZERO button one more time to reset zero.
Scale Use
1. Place the empty powder pan on the platform and press the ZERO button to reset
the scale to zero.
2. The scale is now ready to weigh powder.
3. The scale can be changed to display grains or grams as desired. Press the
MODE button to switch the scale from one to the other. In the grain mode the
scale will display “gn”, in the gram mode the scale will display “g”.
4. It is recommended that the ZERO button be pressed on occasion during
use (approximately every 10 loads measured) to ensure that the scale is
maintaining its zero or any time the display is off zero when a empty
powder pan is on the platform.
5. The scale is equipped with an auto-shutoff feature when batteries are in use.
The scale will auto-shutoff after approximately 15 minutes of non-use to save
battery life.
6. The display will show an image of a battery to indicate a low power condition
when batteries are being used.
7. To shut-off the scale, press and hold down the ON/OFF button for several seconds.
Trickler Set-Up and Use
One of the unique features of the 1500 XP scale is its built-in powder trickler.
Most tricklers were designed for use with beam scales and cannot be used with
electronic scales due to their size and height. The 1500 XP solves this problem by
allowing the reloader to attach the trickler directly to the scale.
1. Remove the storage tray from the back of the scale and remove all trickler
parts. (The powder feed tube is located on the bottom of the tray).
2. Note the lugs on the bottom of the powder reservoir. Insert the lugs into the
matching openings in the top of the round base section and turn clockwise to
lock the reservoir to the base.
3. Slide off the o-ring located nearest to the open end of the powder feed tube.
4. Insert the powder feed tube through the reservoir. Be sure that the open end is
angled downwards.

5. Slide the o-ring back into place on the powder feed tube.
6. The powder trickler can be positioned on either the right or left hand side of the scale.
Remove the “T” shaped plug from the scale side that you want to place the trickler on.
7. Press the “T” shaped end of the trickler assembly into the scale body opening.
8. Fill the reservoir with powder and rotate the feed tube clockwise to dispense powder
onto the powder pan.
Note: The scale cannot be used with the trickler until approximately 1.0 grain has been
added to the powder pan. Do not attempt to trickle up from “0” as an improper read-
ing can result.
Cautions
1. Never leave a load on the scale for a prolonged period of time as this can
damage the load cell.
2. Always place the calibration weight or a load gently onto the scale. Dropping the weight
on may cause permanent damage to the load cell.
3. Do not attempt to disassemble the scale. There are no user serviceable parts inside the
scale.
4. Do not pull or pry on the platform. Damage to the scale can result.
