1.0 Introduction
Welcome to the Mackworth FSG Free Standing Gantry’s Commissioning and Decommissioning Manual, here it will
explain on how to correctly install the Gantry both safely and securely. This manual also includes how to dispose of
the Gantry at the end of its life time. Use the contents page for easier navigation around the manual to discover the
required section. The aim of the manual is that to help and assist you, so that you can provide a successful
installation and removal of the Gantry for the satisfaction and safety of the customer.
For the Commissioning and Decommissioning of the FSG, no tools or equipment are required.
2.0 Safety Precautions
Read and understand this manual in its entirety before installing the Free Standing Gantry.
The information in this manual is important for the safety of anyone near the Gantry and must be read and
understood to help prevent injuries.
The FSG has been specifically designed to be installed in both the professional and home health care environments.
No matter the environment, health and safety factors should be considered to ensure the safety and essential
performance of the Gantry and to avoid unnecessary damage or injuries to people within the area of the Gantry.
Typical examples include: radiated heat (e.g. from a heater or fire place), excessive moisture impacting electrical
performance (e.g. from a bathroom or kitchen area) and the correct storage of the Gantry after use.
The Gantry is not intended to be used in environments where there are rapid changes in the environmental
temperature and humidity during intended use.
Any commissioning or decommissioning of the Gantry that has not been carried out by an authorised Mackworth
personnel will void the product warranty.
•Mackworth authorised personnel must be the only Technicians who Commission and Decommission the
Gantry.
•Ensure that all the below procedures are followed correctly as instructed in this manual.
•The FSG has been specifically designed to be installed in both the professional and home health care
environments only and is not intended to be installed elsewhere.
Unauthorised modifications on any Mackworth product may affect its safety. The manufacturer will not
be held responsible for any accident, incident or deficiencies of performance that occur as a result of any
unauthorised modification to its products.

3.0 Unboxing
This section will summarize the layout of the Gantry Packaging and what is included in the Box. It is recommended a
small safety knife is used for smoother unpacking of the Gantry. The Gantry is packed into a single box
(283x327x2593), weighing approximately 25kg. Below is a list of components that are included in the box.

Using a knife to open the box down the middle, the box
should open to a similar view to the image on the left. It
will include all the above components.
Below is an image of all the included components for
easier reference.
Remove the components from the box, taking the parts
out in the following order:
Once removed from the box, remove each component from their individual packaging ready for Assembly.

4.0 FSG Assembly and Adjustment
This section will cover the following guidelines on how to assemble and disassemble the FSG.
Prior to assembly, the components must be visually checked to ensure that no parts are damaged. If any parts are
damaged and will affect the assembly, intended use or safety of the user, do not assemble the FSG and contact your
local authorised dealer. Failure to comply with this caution could result in a serious injury to the operator, the
individual being lifted and/or damage to the FSG and/or accessories.
Follow the guidance below on the correct assembly of the FSG. A two person assembly is recommended.
A. Carefully open the box and remove all loose parts and excess packaging
from the box.
B. Place one of the foot plate onto a level surface (Floor). Shown in figure
3. Remove the Star Handle from its fixing.
C. Insert the bottom of the Support Post into the foot, show in figure 4.
Please ensure both hands are on the Supporting post when locating it
in the foot, possible risk of finger trap.
D. Taking the star handle bolt, insert it into the foot plate and Support Post
and tighten it up. (Figure 5)
There should be no movement between the supporting post and its
foot.
Note: Repeat this process with the other foot and support post. Once both
Support posts have been married up with their feet. Place them at
approximately 2.5 metres apart.
Mackworth recommend that two people should carry out the two
following section

E. Place the Track on the Support Posts, using the Locating Pin to align the
track up with the posts. (Figure 7 and 8)
F. Secure the track in position by using the
star handled blots to fix the track to the
supporting Posts. (Figure 9)

There shouldn’t be any lateral movement between
these two parts once fully tightened
G. To extend the height of the gantry. At either end remove the safety pin
and Lynch pin. Then using one hand to press the latch open and the other
hand to push the track upwards, adjust the track to the required height
(Figure 10)
H. Once you are happy with the height of the gantry, release the latch and
using two hands on the track lower it until the latch locates into a position
height hole.
Make sure both Support posts are set to the same height number.
I. Insert the safety pin back into both support posts. Shown in figure 12
J. Secure the safety pins in position with a Lynch pin. (Figure 13)
K. If required. Turn the level adjuster at either end of the feet to prevent
rocking or movement of the FSG (Figure 14)

5.0 Accessories
The Remaining parts provided include the User Manual and the box/packaging. These should be given to the
customer for safe keeping. The Box should also be kept with the User and stored in a safe place. The Box will be
required for decommissioning and transportation.
6.0 Decommissioning
The following section will instruct on how to correctly decommission the FSG at the end of use.
The product may be contaminated and has to be disinfected before decommissioning.
See section ‘Cleaning’ in the User Manual for details of how to do this.
6.1 Gantry Dismantling
All serviceable components of the Gantry should be dismantled prior to the disposal of the Gantry. The dismantling
of the Gantry is essentially the Assembly steps in reversal. Refer to the assembly instructions for further details and
explanation.
6.2 Gantry Disposal
When the Gantry has completed its specified lifespan or no longer perform to its intended use
safely, the Gantry must be decommissioned by an approved trained professional. The following
specifies the importance of correct disposal procedure including local laws and being
environmentally friendly.
Please observe the local laws on recycling and respect the current laws for disposal within the
community the device is being used within. If there is any uncertainty of the below guidelines,
contact your local authorities to determine the proper method of disposal of potentially
biohazardous parts and accessories.
The relevant components utilised in the manufacture of the device that can be recycled at the end of the device life
are:
Fully recyclables:
FSG Track Assembly
FSG Leg Posts x2
FSG Feet x2
Initial packaging of the device (cardboard)
Metallic/Plastic fixing –Star Handles etc.
Ensure that this list is used as guidance and that the local laws in the given community overrule the suggested
component disposal in the table above.
