shaft when it is in uncomfortable positions,
holding the tachometer at a certain distance.

I generatori della serie SILENT 12 sono dotati di
alternatore senza spazzole, sincrono, a quattro
poli, autoregolato, autoeccitato con regolatore elet-
tronico di tensione (fig. 8 rif. 2) . L’alternatore
genera una tensione alternata, disponibile ai
morsetti a una frequenza di 50/60 Hz. (Corrispon-
denti alla velocità del motore primo di 1500/1800
rpm) secondo il principio di seguito descritto.
All’avviamento del gruppo il magnetismo residuo
presente nel rotore induce nell’avvolgimento
ausiliario di eccitazione una tensione alternata.
Questa tensione è raddrizzata e applicata
all’avvolgimento statore dell’eccitatrice generando
un campo magnetico tale da indurre
nell’avvolgimento trifase dell’eccitatrice presente
nel rotore una tensione alternata.
Tale tensione viene a sua volta raddrizzata dal
ponte diodi rotante ed applicata all’avvolgimento
induttore principale del rotore generando a sua
volta nell’avvolgimento di potenza la tensione
nominale ai morsetti del generatore.
Il regolatore elettronico di tensione tiene sotto
controllo la tensione ai morsetti, regolando la
corrente di eccitazione, sullo statore dell’eccitatrice,
facendo in modo che tale tensione non si discosti
che minimamente dal valore nominale.
CONTROLLI
Tutte le misure di resistenza si intendono eseguite
ad alternatore freddo, temperatura ambiente 10 -
30 °C e con strumentazione tale da permettere la
lettura dei valori indicati.
La tolleranza rispetto ai valori riportati è
indicativamente ± 10%.
Letture approssimative, eseguite con strumenti di
portata non adeguata, possono unicamente
indicare la continuità dell’avvolgimento ma non
danno indicazioni su eventuali corto circuiti.
N.B.
Oltre alle possibilità di guasto che sono indicate in
seguito si può presentare il caso di uno o più
avvolgimenti a massa. Si consiglia quindi di
controllare queste eventualità verificando con un
tester che non ci sia continuità fra i vari avvolgimenti
(identificati nei paragrafi successivi) verso massa e
fra gli stessi.
3ALTERNATOR
The generators of the SILENT 12 series are
equipped with an electyronic voltage regulator
(Fig. 8 Ref. 2). The alternator generates alternate
voltage available at the terminals at a frequency of
50/60 Hz (corresponding to the speed of the prime
mover of 1500/1800 rpm) according to the principle
described below.
Upon starting, the rotor magnetism (residual
magnetism of the nucleus) induces a voltage in the
auxiliary excitation windings.
This voltage is rectified and applied to the stator
windings, which generates a magnetic field that
induces in the threephase rotor windings an al-
ternate current.
The voltage is rectified by the rotating diode
bridge and applied to the rotor excitation
windings, that induces in the primary winding the
rated voltage to the generators terminals.
The electronic voltage regulator monitors the ex-
citation current and controls that the output
voltage at the genset terminals is near the nomi-
nal value.
TESTS
All the resistance measurements are made with
the alternator cold, ambient temperature 10 - 30
°C, and with instrumentation such as to allow
reading the values indicated.
The tolerance with respect to the values listed is
approximately ± 10%.
Approximate readings made with instruments with
inadequate range, can only indicate continuity of
the winding but do not give an indication of any
short-circuits.
N.B.
Apart from the failure possibilities indicated below,
there might be one or more earth windings. It is
therefore recommended to test these possibilities,

3.1 Statore
3.1.1 Avvolgimenti di potenza/alimentazione
Caratteristiche:
Metodo di controllo avv.potenza:
- Sganciare il magnetotermico
- Staccare le / la barretta di giunzione sulla
morsettiera di potenza.
- Verificare che la resistenza fra le estremità
dei cavi rientri nei valori indicati in tabella.
RIMEDIO: Sostituire lo statore
ATTENZIONE: Gli avvolgimenti sono trattati con
resine e vernici per ambienti con clima umido-
salino. Se tali trattamenti sono deteriorati,
sostituire !
Metodo di controllo avv.alimentazione:
- Scollegare i 2 fili rossi da 1mm2 dal regolatore
di tensione (AVR), morsetti 3-5
-Verificare che la resistenzafra le estremità dei
cavi rientri nei valori indicati in tabella

Features:
Power start test method:
- Detach the magnetothermal switch
- Detach the junction bar(s) on the power
terminal board.
-Check that the resistance between the ends of
the cables falls within the values indicated in the
table.
REMEDY: Replace the stator
WARNING: The windings have been treated
with resin and paint for humid-saline climates. If
these treatments have deteriorated, replace !
Fuel start test method:
- Disconnect the two 1mm2 red wires from the
voltage
regulator (AVR), terminals 3-5
-Check that the resistance between the ends of
the cables falls within the values indicated in the
table.

3.1.2 Stator excitation field
Features:
Test method
- Disconnect the 1mm2green and red wires
from the voltage regulator (AVR), terminals 1-3-
Check that the resistance between the ends of
the cables falls within the values indicated in the
table.
REMEDY:Replace the exciter (Fig.7 rif.1).
WARNING: The windings have been treated
with resin and paint for humid-saline climates. If
these treatments have deteriorated, replace !
3.1.2 Avvolgimenti di campo eccitatrice

Caratteristiche:
Metodo di controllo
- Scollegate i fili verde e rosso da 1mm2dal
regolatore di tensione (AVR), morsetti 1-3
- Verificare che la resistenza fra le estremità dei
cavi rientri nei valori indicati in tabella.
RIMEDIO: Sostituire l'eccitatrice (Fig.7 rif.1).
ATTENZIONE: Gli avvolgimenti sono trattati con

Test method:
-Access the rotor head with the test prods
-Check that the resistance between the (+) (-)
points (Fig.9 rif.1)falls within the values indi-
cated in the table.
REMEDY: Replace the rotor
IMPORTANT
Failed output voltage may exceptionally be caused
by absence or insufficiency of residual rotor mag-
netism.
It is therefore recommended to apply for an
instant the (+) and (-) of a 12V battery on the
electronic regulator (AVR) with a 30 Ohm resis-
tor in series, respecting the polarities (+) on
terminal 3 and (-) on terminal 1

(Fig.9 rif.1) rientri nei valori indicati in tabella.
RIMEDIO: Sostituire il rotore
IMPORTANTE
La mancanza di tensione in uscita, può essere
causata eccezzionalmente dalla mancanza o
insufficienza di magnetismo residuo del rotore.
Si consiglia pertanto, di applicare per un istante, il
(+) e (-) di una batteria a 12V, sul regolatore
elettronico (AVR), con in serie una resistenza da
30 Ohm rispettando le polarità (+) sul morsetto 3
e (-) sul morsetto 1
