Your Responsibility for Your System’s Security
Toll fraud is the use of your telecommunications system by an unauthorized party, for example, persons other than your company’s
employees, agents, subcontractors, or persons working on your company’s behalf. Note that there may be a risk of toll fraud associated
with your telecommunications system and, if toll fraud occurs, it can result in substantial additional charges for your
telecommunications services.
You and your system manager are responsible for the security of your system, such as programming and configuring your equipment to
prevent unauthorized use. The system manager is also responsible for reading all installation, instruction, and system administration
documents provided with this product in order to fully understand the features that can introduce risk of toll fraud and the steps that can
be taken to reduce that risk. MCK Communications does not warrant that this product is immune from or will prevent unauthorized use
of common-carrier telecommunication services or facilities accessed through or connected to it. MCK Communications will not be
responsible for any charges that result from such unauthorized use.

Product Overview
Product Overview
Introduction
MCK’s EXTender 3000 provides remote workers and small branch offices seamless connectivity to the cor-
porate LAN.
Remote employees can: place and receive calls through the PBX/Key System; use four/three-digit internal
dialing; transfer calls; set up conference calls; have a corporate-based receptionist screen calls; access the
voice mail, auto-attendant or any other software residing on the PBX/Key System. The EXTenders work
with existing corporate, digital telephone sets. Transmission is over the public telephone network using
ISDN, or BRI lines.
Remote employees can, at the same time, establish data sessions (e.g. connecting to Internet Service Pro-
vider or access their corporate LAN). There are three data communications methods: Serial, Dial-up or
Ethernet.
The Remote employee also has an additional analog port available for an analog device, such as a fax
machine.
How the Connection Works
The connection to the ISDN network is done via the built-in U or S/T interface. The Office Module connects
to a digital port on the PBX/Key System located at the corporate office, and the Remote Module connects to
a digital phone set at a remote location.
The Office and Remote Module, includes MCK’s Remote Voice Protocol TM software. The software, com-
presses, packetizes and encrypts voice and PBX/Key System signals to condition them for transmission over
a public, circuit-switched network.
Once the installation has been completed, your Remote Module will enable your extended phones to func-
tion exactly like your deskset at the office.

Supported Data Types
The Office and Remote Modules support three data types: Serial, Dial-up, and Ethernet. Speech compres-
sion is selectable between ADPCM32 or G.729A. The following table summarizes how the ISDN channels
are used for each data type:
For more information about the Serial, Dial-up, and Ethernet data types, see Data Communications section
of this manual.

Office Module Installation
Pre-installation Checklist
Before continuing with the installation and configuring of your Office Module, please go through the fol-
lowing checklists.
Office Module Checklist
Ensure your EXTender 3000 kit includes the following items:
• One EXTender 3000 Office Module
• One EXTender 3000 Office Module System Administrator Manual
• One EXTender 3000 Office Module Quick Installation Guide
• 12 volt DC unregulated supplied by standard 120 volt adapter (U interface) or a 12 volt DC unregu-
lated, supplied by 220/240v adapters (S/T interface)
• One ISDN line cord (RJ45 cable)
Ensure the maximum length of your cable between the PBX and the Office Module does not exceed 500 feet
(150 meters).
CAUTION: Do not connect a digital telephone to an Office Module.
The following services should be installed and tested before proceeding:
• PBX digital port.
• BRI port or ISDN line, as described in the ISDN line checklist.
Parts required to configure the Office Module, but NOT included with the system:
• PC or terminal with a terminal emulation package (VT100 compatible).
• RS232 serial cable. (Male DB9 connector required for the Remote Module connection. The other
connector should match to the PC or terminal.)

Office Module Installation
ISDN Line Checklist
The recommended ISDN line provisioning for your U or S/T interface ISDN line is:
• ISDN CO Switch type:
• U Interface: AT&T 5ESS, Nortel DMS100, or National ISDN NI-1
• S/T Interface: ETSI NET3
• Circuit Switched Voice and Data on both B channels (B1 and B2).
• No call features are required on any B channels.
• Must be capable of 56K or 64k Synchronous Data Calls, Clear Channel.
Note: Specifications are subject to change without notice as technological or manufacturing
changes warrant.
• Ensure you have the proper ISDN line installed at the Remote module’s site.
• Ensure you know the SPID/DN numbers (U interface), TEI type and Connect Rate (56K or 64K).
You obtain this information from your local ISDN service provider when the ISDN lines are
installed. Note that the S/T Interface uses MSN (Multiple Subscriber Number) numbers instead of
SPID or DN numbers
• Ensure that you have registered the ISDN lines with your long distance carrier for ISDN DATA Ser-
vice, if required.
PC or Network Connection
If you are connecting EXTender 3000 to a PC or network, you will require:
For the Serial or Dial-up configurations:
• One serial cable with a male DB9 cable end suitable for LAN connectivity at the Office module
site.
For the Ethernet configuration:
• One Ethernet cable for the Office module.
• One Ethernet port connecting to the LAN.

Environment Checklist
The installation area should be:
• Well ventilated and free of dust.
• Have an ambient temperature of 0ºC (32ºF) to 55ºC (131ºF), with a relative humidity below 95%.
• Free of any large electrical equipment such as copiers or motors that generate electromagnetic,
radio frequency, and electrostatic interference.
• Within 150 meters (500 feet) of the PBX.
Electrical Checklist
The AC electrical requirement for the EXTender 3000 Module is:
• 12v DC supplied by standard 120VAC adapters when using U interface units and 220/240VAC
adapters when using S/T interface units.
