Safety instructions
Operational safety
• Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play
with this device. This device is not intended for use by people
(including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental
capacity or for those without experience and/or knowledge,
unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their
safety or they have been instructed in its use.
• Keep packaging material, e.g. plastic wrapping, out of reach
of children. Danger of suffocation!
• Never open the appliance casing (electrical shock, short circuit
and fire hazard)!

the inside of the appliance (electrical shock, short circuit and
fire hazard)!
• The slots and openings on the appliance are for ventilation
purposes. Do not cover these openings (overheating, fire risk)!
• The universal remote control has a class 1M infrared diode.
Never use optical devices to look at the LED.
Set-up location
• During the first few hours of use, new devices may give off a
characteristic, unavoidable, but totally safe smell. This will dis-
appear over time. To help reduce odour build-up, we recom-
mend that you ventilate the room at regular intervals. We have
taken appropriate measures during the development of this
product to ensure that levels are well below legal limits.
• Keep the appliance and all connected appliances away from
moisture and avoid dust, heat and direct sunlight. Non-com-
pliance with these instructions can lead to faults or damage to
the appliance.
• If you are operating the appliance outside, make sure that it is
not exposed to any moisture (rain, snow, etc.).

6
• The appliance must not be exposed to dripping or sprayed
water. Do not place objects that are filled with water (such as
vases) on the device. Such containers could tip over, and the
liquid could impair the electrical safety of the product.
• Do not place any open flames (candles or similar) on or in the
immediate vicinity of the appliance.
• Make sure that there is enough clearance from the side panels
of the furniture unit! Ensure a minimum separation of 10 cm
around the appliance for sufficient ventilation.
• Operate all components on a stable, level and vibration-free
base, to prevent the device from falling over.

cause moisture build-up within the device due to condensa-
tion. This can cause an electrical short circuit.
• During thunderstorms or if the appliance is not going to be
used for long periods, remove the plug from the mains socket
and the aerial cable from the aerial socket.
Electricity supply
WARNING!
Even when switched off, some components of the
device are live. To disconnect the power from your
device or to completely isolate the device from volt-
age sources, unplug the device completely from the
mains.
• Only plug the device into an earthed socket with 230 V ~ 50
Hz. Contact your electricity provider if you are not sure if the

The DVD drive
The DVD player is a class 1 laser product. The de-
vice has a safety system that prevents dangerous
laser rays from escaping during normal use. To
avoid eye injuries, never tamper with or damage
the safety system of the device.
Handling batteries
The remote control is battery-operated. Batteries may contain
combustible materials. If not handled properly, batteries may
leak, heat up excessively, ignite or even explode.
Please note the following safety advice:
• Keep batteries away from children.
• If batteries are swallowed, consult your doctor immediately.
• Never try to charge non-rechargeable batteries.
• Do not mix up new and old batteries or different types of bat-
teries. This could cause your device to malfunction. In addi-
tion, the weaker batteries would discharge too much.
• Always change both batteries at the same time.
• Always observe the correct polarity.
• Never discharge the batteries by means of high power output.
• Never short-circuit the batteries.
• Never expose the batteries to excessive heat such as sunlight,
fire or similar.
• Do not dismantle or deform the batteries.
You could injure your hands or fingers or battery fluid could
come into contact with your eyes or skin. If this happens, rinse
the affected areas immediately with plenty of clean water and
contact your doctor immediately.
• Avoid heavy impacts and vibrations.
• Clean the contacts in the battery compartment and on the
new batteries before insertion.
• Remove spent batteries from the device immediately.
• Remove the batteries from the device if you do not intend to
use it for a long period of time.
• Cover the contacts of the batteries with sticky tape if you want
to store or dispose of them.

General
About DVDs
The DVD – Digital Versatile Disc – is a digital
medium for storing information. DVDs are
marked with one of the symbols shown here.
Different types of DVD are available with different storage capaci-
ties depending on how the information is stored.
DVD structure
Video DVDs are divided into titles and chapters. A DVD can have
several
titles, which in turn may be made up of several chapters. Titles
and chapters are each numbered sequentially
The first title of a DVD usually comprises licence details and man-
ufacturer’s information. The next title is usually the film itself.
Other titles may include items such as “making of” documenta-
ries, film previews or information on the actors.
Languages and subtitles
Up to eight languages and subtitles in as many as 32 different
languages can be stored on DVDs. Any combination of languag-
es and subtitles can be selected for playback.
83247 EN LUTZ AT Content RC1.indd 1283247 EN LUTZ AT Content RC1.indd 12 23.09.2011 12:12:4223.09.2011 12:12:42

13
Camera angle
Some DVDs even allow the viewer to select multiple camera an-
gles, provided that the film was recorded from different camera
positions.
Regional codes
For reasons connected with global DVD sales strategy, a code has
been developed for DVDs that allows the recording to be played
only on devices purchased in a particular region.
This code is based on a system that divides the world into six re-
gions.
Europe is in Zone 2. Your DVD player will thus only play
DVDs that have the regional code 2. The regional code
is printed on the DVD packaging. (See the logo shown
here.)
In addition to DVDs with regional code 2, the unit will also play
DVDs with the regional code 0 (suitable for any DVD player).
If you have any difficulty when playing a particular DVD, check
that it has the regional code 2 or 0.

• DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD-R
• VCD and SVCD
• CD-R, CD-RW
• CD audio
• MP3
• MPEG4

Getting started
Unpack the device
Remove all the packaging materials including the film on the
front of the unit.
WARNING!
Do not let children play with the plastic film. There
is a risk of suffocation.
Check package contents
Unpack the device and ensure that the following parts are in-
cluded:
• DVD player
• Remote control

• Instructions and warranty documents
83247 EN LUTZ AT Content RC1.indd 1583247 EN LUTZ AT Content RC1.indd 15 23.09.2011 12:12:4223.09.2011 12:12:42

16
Inserting the batteries in the remote control
Two 1.5 V batteries (AAA/LR03 size) are sup-
plied for the remote control.
Press the clip on the battery panel cover
inwards until the cover comes free.
Insert the batteries so that the negative
pole is placed next to the springs.
Close the battery panel cover.
WARNING!
The batteries supplied should not
be charged, disassembled, thrown into a fire, or
short-circuited.

keep the batteries and remote control out of reach
of children. If a battery is swallowed, please obtain
immediate medical assistance.
83247 EN LUTZ AT Content RC1.indd 1683247 EN LUTZ AT Content RC1.indd 16 23.09.2011 12:12:4223.09.2011 12:12:42

17
Connections and connection options
The unit can be connected in various ways to other input and
output devices.
ATTENTION!
Switch off all devices before connecting them. Only con-
nect the units to the mains when all the connections are
complete.
Setting up the device
• Place the device on a sturdy, level surface. Please take note of
the „Safety instructions“ on page 5.
• Some aggressive furniture paints can weaken the device’s rub-
ber feet. If necessary, place the device on a suitable underlay.
Connection options between the DVD player and tel-
evision
Connection with the television via the SCART cable
The SCART cable is the simplest connection between the DVD
player and the television.
• As long as your television can process RGB signals you will get
a very good quality image from this option.
Connection with the television using the video-cinch cable
If your television does not have a SCART connection, you can
connect the appliance with a video cinch cable.
• An audio cinch cable must also be connected. Please note the
colour codes for left/right on the cinch plugs.
83247 EN LUTZ AT Content RC1.indd 1783247 EN LUTZ AT Content RC1.indd 17 23.09.2011 12:12:4323.09.2011 12:12:43

18
Digital image and sound: HDMI
• Your DVD player has a HDMI (OUT) connection. HDMI is the
only interface in the consumer entertainment electronics sec-
tor that can transmit digital audio and video data simultane-
ously. It can process all current picture and sound formats,
including HDTV (high-definition television), and can do this
at the highest current resolution of 1080P without any loss of
quality.
• You can connect the DVD player to a television set with HDMI
and DVI inputs (HDMI is downwards compatible with DVI –
“Digital Visual Interface”). You will also need a HDMI cable for
connecting to a HDMI input. If your television set has a DVI
socket, you will also need an adapter (HDMI–DVI). These are
available in specialist stores.
PLEASE NOTE!
Once you have connected the HDMI or DVI appliance
then switch on this appliance only. Wait approximately
30 seconds and then switch on the DVD player.
To establish the progressive scan function for the HDMI con-
nection select the resolution 480P, 576P, 720P (50HZ), 1080P
(50 HZ), depending on the resolution supported by your tel-
evision set.
PLEASE NOTE!
The HDMI output has been certified according to the
valid HDMI standard. However, it may happen in certain
cases that the connection is not compatible with the
DVI or HDMI connection on another device, and thus
error-free transmission will not be possible. The fault in
this case has nothing to do with the DVD player itself.
83247 EN LUTZ AT Content RC1.indd 1883247 EN LUTZ AT Content RC1.indd 18 23.09.2011 12:12:4323.09.2011 12:12:43

19
Digital sound transfer
Connect a coaxial cable to the COAXIAL output on the
DVD player and the corresponding input on the amplifier.
PLEASE NOTE!
To make the most of the digital sound reproduction,
switch off the sound on your television set.
Mains connection
Once you have made all the connections, connect the mains
cable to an appropriate socket (230 V ~ 50 Hz).
USB connection
ATTENTION!
To avoid damaging the device, do not use a USB extension
cable and do not connect the device directly to the USB
port of a computer.
The USB connection is only designed to be used for USB
memory sticks; other external storage media such as exter-
nal hard disks cannot be operated by the USB connection.
Insert the USB device into the USB connection interface.
Select the drive
Use the DVD/USB button to select the disc drive or the USB
drive. Press the button several times if required.
PLEASE NOTE!
Data on the USB stick is played in the same way as data
on the discs (DVD, audio CD, JPEG CD, etc.). The fol-
lowing description for discs also applies to USB memory
sticks.
