Preface
This manual is intended as a reference for dismantling MIS 50[23] [015][QD]
switch systems in preparation of meeting the requirements of WEEE recycling.
Intended Audience
This manual is intended for technicians who dismantle the switch systems as a
reference for WEEE recyclers.
Mellanox Technologies emphasizes the importance of carefully following all
procedures described in this guide to prevent personal injury.

requirements of the European Union’s WEEE (waste electrical and electronic
equipment) directive. The directive mandates how the materials used in electrical
and electronic equipment must be disposed of.
Mellanox Technologies has worked closely with its suppliers to eliminate
hazardous materials from its Products. There are instances, however, where it has
not proven possible to completely eliminate all hazardous materials.
Consequently, all applicable products are labeled with a crossed out “wheelie” bin
symbol, indicating that special care must be applied to their disposal and / or
recycling.

1Dismantling Instructions
This chapter provides detailed instructions for dismantling the InfiniBand switch
Standard and Short systems. Follow the instructions in the order they are
presented.
1.1 InfiniBand switch systems - General
The InfiniBand switch system complies with the RoHS directive under the
exemptions known as RoHS-5 and RoHS-6.
The last digit of the product part number represents the RoHS type.
For example
MIS5030Q-2BRC —C = RoHS-5
MIS5030Q-1SFR —R = RoHS-6
InfiniBand switch systems are comprised of:
Main Board
CPU board with battery
Fan unit
Harness
Power Supply Unit (PSU)
Cover
1.2 General Preparations
The InfiniBand switch system is assembled using Philips screws, and handles
with snap in latches for modules.
To disassemble the InfiniBand switch system you will need a small Philips
screwdriver.
The pictures displayed in the following pages provide visual guidance explaining
how to remove the modules from the mechanical base.
1.3 Standard and Short InfiniBand Switch Systems
There are two types of InfiniBand switch systems.
Standard
Short
The difference is in the length of the mechanical base and cover.
In the following pictures and drawings you will see the difference.

For InfiniBand switch systems (standard and short), all parts are the same
regarding the disassembly process. The only difference is that the standard
version of the switch has several extra harnesses that connect the board to the fan
and power modules.
1.4 Power Supply Unit Extraction

To extract a PSU:
1. Remove the power cord from the power supply unit.
2. Grasping the handle with your right hand, push the latch release with your thumb
while pulling the handle outward.
3. Remove the PSU.
4. Repeat the procedure to the second PSU if there is one.
5. If there is only one PSU remove the blank cover.

1.5 Fan Unit Extraction
To extract a Fan Unit
Using two hands, push both latch releases simultaneously while pulling the fan
module out of the switch.

6. These two latches must be pushed towards each other at the same time while the
module is pulled out.
1.6 Cover Extraction
1. Unscrew all of the screws from the top and sides of the cover and remove the cover.
1.7 Battery Extraction
In all managed Mellanox systems there is a CPU board and / or Management
board, there is a: COIN TYPE LITHIUM BATTERY CR1620 3V 75MA.

1.8 Board Extraction
1. Disconnect the harness connectors from the boards.
2. Unscrew the Heat-sink screws to remove the Heat-sink.
3. Unscrew the Philips screws and remove spacers to remove the Main board and CPU
Board.

Disconnect harness connectors and remove Harnesses from the base.
