1.1 Driving instructions
These driving instructions are valid for Nordtrack S series machines. The purpose of these instructions is to
enable safe moving of the machine during transportation.
NOTE: Do not use the machine for screening or crushing solely based on these instructions. The
actual instruction manual for the machine is delivered separately.
NOTE: In these driving instructions, it is assumed that the machine is in the transport position. If
needed, see the actual instruction manual of the machine for information on how to prepare the
machine for transportation.
1.1.1 Safety
Because of the size and weight of the machine, pay special attention when moving the machine. It is highly
recommended that a banksman is used when the machine is moved.
DANGER
GENERAL HAZARD
Will cause death or serious injury.
Read the safety section before working with the unit. Only competent and trained personnel are
allowed to work with the unit.
WARNING
PERSONAL INJURY HAZARD
Can cause death or serious injury.
Before starting and during track driving the machine, make sure that there are no persons in the
area whose safety may be endangered. Establish a buffer zone of at least 4.5 m (15 feet) around
the machine. Walk around the machine and make sure that there is nobody on, by or below the
machine. Warn everybody in the vicinity before starting.
WARNING
CRUSHING HAZARD
Can cause death or serious injury.
Do not drive the machine in locations where there is a risk of squeezing. Always drive the machine
from a safe distance. If possible, drive the machine from either end of the machine.

WARNING
UNEXPECTED MOVEMENT HAZARD
Can cause death or serious injury.
Be extremely cautious when driving in cold temperatures (below 0°C, 32°F). The response time of
the controls might be longer than usual due to stiff hydraulic oil.
WARNING
COLLISION HAZARD
Can cause death or serious injury.
Always drive the machine from a safe distance. Pay attention to the machine dimensions to avoid
power lines, bridges, branches and other obstacles.

1.1.3 Emergency stop locations
DANGER
GENERAL HAZARD
Will cause death or serious injury.
In a dangerous situation, stop the machine with the emergency stop button, the key switch of the
machine, or with the remote stop button (located on either the drive control device or the radio
control device). Before starting the machine, make sure you know the location of the emergency
stop buttons.

WARNING
UNEXPECTED MOVEMENT HAZARD
Can cause death or serious injury.
Make sure the cable of the drive control device does not get caught in the tracks or in any other
moving part of the machine during driving.
You must disconnect the drive control device from the unit immediately after driving and store it in a
safe place when not in use.
Only lift and hold the drive control device by its handles. Do not pull the drive control device from the

1.1.6.1 Starting the engine
CAUTION
EXPLOSION HAZARD
Can cause moderate injury or property damage.
Never use startup spray or any other similar product to help the engine start. Startup sprays and
similar products can cause a destructive explosion in the intake manifold.
WARNING
PERSONAL INJURY HAZARD
Can cause death or serious injury.
Before starting the machine, make sure that there are no persons in the area whose safety may be
endangered. Walk around the machine and make sure that there is nobody on, by or below the
machine. Warn everybody nearby before starting.

Fixed speed engine
For fixed speed engine options, the engine has only one working speed setting. When the machine is
switched on it will run at idle speed.
1. To increase the engine speed from idle speed to working speed, press the engine speed up button on
the control panel (see figure “Engine speed up button”).
Pressing the engine speed up button again will not increase the speed beyond the working speed.
2. To decrease the engine speed from working speed to idle speed, press the engine speed down button
on the control panel (see figure “Engine speed down button”).
NOTE:
Once the engine speed has been decreased from working speed to idle, it cannot be increased
again without turning the machine off.
1.1.6.3 Controlling the engine speed (Stage V)
NOTE:
Track driving speed is dependent on the engine speed. Therefore, controlling the engine speed also
controls the track driving speed.
The engine speed (rpm) is shown and can be adjusted on the Main Screen or the Tracking / Radio Screen.
1. To increase engine speed, press button B4 on the control panel corresponding to the following on-screen
icon.

1.1.6.4 Unlocking the remote control device
NOTE:
The remote control device can be used as either a wired control device or a wireless control device.
When the remote control device is connected with the wired connection, it will charge the remote
control device. When not connected with the wired connection, the remote control device can be
used once it is paired to the wireless signal of the machine.
NOTE:
The remote control device has an in built safety feature which prevents track driving the machine
unintentionally.
To unlock the remote control device, follow these steps:
1. Make sure that the remote control device is switched on. If the Lock LED on the device is not illuminated,
press the green Lock button (arrow (1) in figure below) for at least 3 seconds until the Lock LED starts to
flash red.
NOTE:
If the remote control device is left unused, it will enter the sleep mode. You can reactivate the
remote control device by pressing either the green or red button.

3. Wait for the handset to unlock.
The Lock LED will turn steady green.
4. You can now use the handset to control the tracks. After unlocking the handset, the tracks are enabled
after a 7-second pre-tracking delay.
NOTE:
The remote control device will automatically lock itself if there is no activity for 300 seconds (5
minutes). In this case, you must unlock the device again. The remote control device will also
automatically switch off if it is left in locked state for 50 seconds.
1.1.7 Driving
Check the directions of remote control device levers compared to the directions of the machine from
Driving
directions
.
1. For optional fixed speed machines, move the track speed control lever to the down (slow) position when
loading machine to transport trailer.
Figure 19. Track drive lever (Fixed speed machines)
2. Connect the remote control device cable to the hopper end of the machine (if you are using the remote
control device in wired mode). The wireless mode is recommended.
3. For machines with Tier 3 / Tier 4F engines, perform the following steps to set the machine to track driving
mode:
a) Push the track mode button on the control panel. The track countdown timer will be displayed.

device.
The aerial symbol will appear if this signal is being received by a radio control device. It will not
appear if the wired connection is being used.
4. For machines with Stage V engine, track driving mode is entered automatically when the remote control
device is unlocked.
NOTE:
After entering track driving mode, there is a 7–second delay before the tracks are enabled.
Machine’s warning siren will sound and a countdown is shown in the top-right of the Tracking/
Radio screen.
5. Locate the track control levers. They are located on the right side of the control panel.
CAUTION
PROPERTY DAMAGE HAZARD
Can cause moderate injury or property damage.
When ready for track driving, only actuate the track control levers.

1.1.8 Stopping the engine
NOTE: Only use the emergency stop in emergency situations - do not use it for routine stopping of
the engine.
For locations of emergency stops, see "Emergency stop locations".
1. Before stopping the engine, allow the engine to idle (cool down) for approximately 5 minutes.
2. To stop the diesel engine, turn the ignition key to off position (1) and remove the key.
The remote control device turns off automatically at the same time.
