Demo Set-up and Getting Started
The KSZ8862-16MQL demo board set up as shown in the Figure 1.
PC with Windows
98, 2000 or XP
Ethernet Cable

Please perform the following steps to power on the Demo Board.
1. Connect the RS-232 serial cable between the PC and the Demo Board.
2. Connect the Ethernet cable between the PC and the Demo Board.
3. On the PC, open the Hyper Terminal as follows:
Go to: Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Communications -> HyperTerminal and click
on Hyper Terminal
Type in a name at the prompt e.g. “KSZ8862 Demo” and press OK
Select COM1 port and press OK
Fill in the COM1 Properties parameters as shown in Figure 2 and press OK
4. Plug in the 7.5V DC jack to power on the KSZ8862M 10FL_100SX demo board

Normally the Hyper Terminal window will display as shown in Figure 3 after the demo board is
powered up or reset.

In this window, hit “Enter” and type “=>hwhelp” to show all commands and parameters that can
read/write from/to registers, configure the chip, display MIB counters and send packets, etc.
From this window, the software has assigned the IP and MAC addresses in the Demo Board.
IP Address: 192.168.1.1 and Switch Host MAC Address: 08-00-70-22-44-55

Setting Up the IP Address for the PC
This section describes how to change the IP address for your PC in order to run the TCP_GUI
demo software. The default IP address is 192.168.1.1. in the Demo Board. For the PC, the user
can set the IP address to 192.168.1.X (X: don’t care) and the Subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 (see
the Figure 4).
To change the IP address, proceed as follows:
Go to: Start -> Settings -> Network and Dial-up Connections -> Local Area Connection.
Right click on Local Area Connection and click on Properties.
Click on “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and then click properties, change the fields so that
they are the same as in Figure 4 and select OK.
Click OK again to get out of Local Area Connection properties and click Close to get out
of this window.

You can use the PING command from your PC to test whether the KSZ8862-16MQL demo
board is accessible over the network. To open the Command Prompt, proceed as follows:
Go to: Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt and click on Command
Prompt.
Type “ping 192.168.1.1” and “Enter” as shown in Figure 5.

Running the TCP/UDP GUI Demo Program
To launch this program, double click the “TCP_GUI.EXE” file in CD-ROM (D:\M16C Demo
Board\Software\Demo Program\TCP GUI Demo); the “TCP/DUP demo” window comes up as
shown in Figure 6. Type the IP address “192.168.1.1” in the “IP Address of Board” area and click
the “Establish connection” button. If “Connected” message is displayed below the IP Address,
the connection is successful. At the same time, the “Open TCP Conn Est” text will be displayed at
the LCD module of the Demo Board.

To send TCP packets from the PC to the Demo Board:
Type any 8 characters/numbers into the two blanks under “TCP Send Routine” and click the
“Send” button. The characters/numbers will be displayed on the LCD module of the Demo Board.
To receive TCP packets from the Demo Board on the PC:
Press any one of the three push button switches (S1, S2 and S3) on the Demo Board. The “TCP
Receive Routine” area will display the action from the Demo Board.
To send UDP packets from the PC to the Demo Board:
Use the mouse to slide the bar in “UDP Send” area. The position of the slide bar will be displayed
as a percentage on the LCD module of the Demo Board.
To receive UDP packets from the Demo Board on the PC:
Click the “Start Streaming” button in the “UDP Receive Routine” area, and then adjust POT2 (10K
variable resistor) on the Demo Board. The GUI demo window on the PC will display the current
value.
