cooking time. Including the size and

• It is essential to ensure that food
has been evenly and sutficlentfy
heated, and to check that it is tho¬
roughly cooked, turning or sbrring
during cooking if necesaary.
• Some foods may contain micro

when cooking or reheating foods,

• When operating the oven on the
'Roof and floor*, "Floor*, or "Inten¬
sive baking' setting do not line the
oven floor with aluminium foM.
This would block out the floor heat*

swrilch to the *0", "Off" posttion.
• The roast probe must always be
taken out ol the oven before the grill
is turned on.

oven as pressure will build up in the

Before usirtg for the first time
• Set the time ol ciay on the clock,

the mode you require. The oven and
the front two hotplates t cookktg areas
can be corHrolled eutomaticaly or
manually, the rear two only manualy
• Wipe out the oven Interior with hot
water and a imld deterqent. Leave
the door open until the oven is per¬
fectly dry.

• A smell can occur during the Iks!
hours of use caused by dissipebon
ol the excess bonding on the oven
insutelion. To dispel this, before
using the oven tor the first time, turn
the oven selector switch to len ED

control to the highest setting M

room is well-ventilated while this Is
in progress
When using the rack place kt the
oven so that the non-tip safely fea¬
ture is positioned towards the rear.
The rack can then only be taken out
of the oven by raising H upwards
end then pulling it out.

use due to drying effect.

Hob controls

If you turn the control up to 12 or back to
0 this switches off the automatic
heat-up control function. The length of
time on aulcmatk: hedHjp depends on
the setting chosen. There is a resistance
between 7 and 6. This indicates a
change of zone. The *sinmer zone* is
up to 7 and the 'frying zone* from 6
orwards. The automdic heat-up tine
also depends on the zone. At the end of
the automatic heaf-uo period the cc rtrol
switches automatically to contimed
cooking and the hdkate goes out

Example: boM potatoes
• Place 1 kg peeled potatoes with
0.25 1 saRed water into a saocepah.
Put on the lid. Place on the 16 cm
cooking area.
• Ttxn the appropriate hob switch to
position 5 and pul out the knob.
• The potatoes wiH be cooked after
25 to 30 moutes. turn oft the cook¬
ing area.
Cookng Ime can vary depending on
the type of pan and tia t^ure of the
potatoes.

Hobs with enclosed hotplates

Each cooking area has a residual heat
indicator. The indicator goes out when
the healed surface of the hob ts cool

If the timer Is used to pre ssed one of
the front cooldr>g areas, the residual
heal indicator lights up. This acts as a
reminder that the temperature will
soon increase.
• Warming area
Ceramic hobs with an additional
warning area have a push button
switch at the right hand end of
the control parrel. An indicatof light by
the warming area shows whether It is
switched oa

Hobs - Use
Choice of suKable pans
AUention io correct choice and use of
pans will help you obtain the best
cooking result most economicaiy. and
generaly avoid food boiing over and
sticking,
• Pan bases
For maximum economy of electricty
when cooking or frying, only use parts
with a flat or very sSghlly concave
base. When hot the pan writ rest
evenly on the hob. Modern sauce¬
pans for electric cookers are the most
suitable and effioent lor use on
ceramic cooking areas or soM hot¬
plates.
• Size of pan
The diameter of Ihe saucepan or trying
pan should be very sightly larger than
that o1 the hotptete l coc^hg area.
• Pan lids
Cooking wHh the lid on the pan retains
the heat.
Notes on use of the hobs
• With ceramic hobsarxJ enclosed
hotplates
Before switching on, place a saucepan
containing water or food to be cooked
on Ihe holptate or cookir^g area. This
prevents unr^ecessary use of energy
or the hotplates warping or burning
themselves out
Before you start cooking, make sure
that Ihe hotpiales or co^ng areas
and the base of the saucepan are
dev and <*y. TNs saves extra clean-
hg later on On m account should
sand or grt remain on the surface of
the ceramic hob. This would scratch
the hob surface when a pan was
pushed across.

Hobs - Use
• Additional instnietione for
ceramic hoba
Do not side any enamelled baking
trays or pans across the hob. This
could cause scratches.
Do not use any pots or pens the base
of which has pronounced edges or is
ridged.
Aluminium perrs or stainless steel
pens with elummum bases can leave
marks with a matalic sheen on the
carsmic surface. Clean these awey ai
Ihe earliest opportunily.
Never leave boiled over sugar or
syrups, plastic Items, or aluminium
foil on the ceramic hob. However,
should this happen, on no account
lum off the hob, but scrape olf the
sugar or ptasUc thoroughly from the
hot hob with a sharp blade. If the
sugar or plastic residues are allowed
to cool on the surface, the ceramic
surface wHI be suscei^ible to pitting in
various degrees. dependir>g on the
amount of the residue.
• Additional matructlons for hobs
with erKlosed hotplates
Do no( place any wet or steamy
objects on the hotplates. If the hot¬
plates get wet wi^ oft the moisture,
and switch on biieny to dry out. This
avoids rust forming.

Cooking with the timer

(depending on model).
It is Importanl to note when using the
timer lor cooking on both automatic
cooking areas or hotplates, that the
cooking time is always the same for
both.
If you want to senre dishes at the
same time, yet which require different
cookirtg ffmes. select a lower tempera¬
ture for the rtem which cooks most
rafxly. The examptes given h the fol¬

Roof and floor hooting
Roof hooting
With lhi$ conveolional method of heal
ing. radiant heal is Oirecled on to the
food from above arxJ below.

It is usually necessary to pre-heel the
oven m this mode.
Root and floor heating 1$ good for aH
types ol cooking and particuiarty for
baking.

Description of the heating systems
Fan oven heating
This system works by the crculabon of
healed air
A fan siliiated on the back of the
oven sucks in the air. heats it over a
ring element and Hows the heated an

Inlerrsivefy to the food. This systOT
can operate on lower temperatures
than the conventtorral roof and ftoor
system.
The oven does not usually need to be
pre*healed as the heated all reac^res

Food can be baked or toasted on sev*
eral levels at the same time thereby
saving time and energy.
Oven temperatures shorJd be 20-
25 C lower than those required for
conventiorral heating systems.
Fan oven and Automatic roasting
The oven heals hiballv to a high tern*
perature which seats the meat to keep
I succulenf and tasty. As soon as the
high temperature has been reached,
the oven temperature is automahcelly
returned to the setting pre*selected on
the terrfierature control. This method
Is not suitable for baking, with the
excepdon of wffiole com, rye or whole*
meal bread with sour dough.
Intensive baking
This method of healing combines
Tan" healing with "Roof and floor"
heating and is particularly useful for
dishes that require a moist topping
dr>d crisp base like pizzas aryJ quiche
lorraine. Temperatures should be
20*25 ® C lower than conventional
baking temperatures.

The hot air from the grin is cHiributed
by the far> over the food. This enables
a lower temperature to be selected
than for corvenUonaf griMng. Use tem¬
peratures 40^C below cooventional
griliing temperatures. This method Is
Ideal for gniiing thicker items such as
stuffed meal, kebabs and pieces ol
poultry etc.

Light rings
The lemperalure cor^roi and the oven
selector switch are surrounded by light
rings which Illuminate when a cook^
furrclion has been selected. The light
ting around the temperature ccntrol
only lights up when the oven control
has b^n set to a function which
requires a temperature setting.
This lighl ring is graduated from white
to yellow for low temperature setlings

Preheating
As soon as the light above the tempe*
rature control goes out. the food
should be put in the oven.
Rede wHh safety feature
If usir^g the rack when bak]r>g. roastrtg
or grilling, place in the oven such that
the safety bar is at the rear of the
oven. The noo dp runr>ers prevent the
rack from being pulled right out when
it only needs to be partially pulled out.
The rack can then be taken out of
the oven by raising H upwards and
then puing itouL

and floor*. "Floor* or "Intensive bakrng"
setting, do not Brte the o v en floor
with aluminium foil This woold block
out the floor heating, artd there is the
danger ol damage to the enamelled

switch the oven on and off automatl-
caly under time control. The timer can
also be set in advance to operate ihe
oven automaticaly. When an opera¬
tion is pre-selected the oven indicator
Ighi comes on. After the pre-set time
his elapsed, the temperature control
ndlcelor lanip comes on. which lights
up intefrrvttentty when the heating eie-
ment switches In. (This does not apply
to the *Oe(rosl* setting).
Roast Probe
(dependsig on model)
Models H etS and H 868 have the
Roast Probe as an additiorkal function
which works in conjunction with the
clock / timer. It is normaly used with
Ihe "Fan + AulomaUc Roastir^g' set-
tng, (See page 25. and separate ins*
tructions on timer).
