read this manual carefully before you make any attempt to operate
this product and retain it for your future reference.
This fully functional pen is perfect for secret shoppers, journalist
activities and private investigators taking covert footage. It also is
convenient for businessmen and students who want a simple method
to retake memos and record meetings and lectures for further
review.

OPERATING THE BLACK & SILVER PEN
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Allow the device to charge 4 – 6 hours before
using. Do not connect the device while it is recording, otherwise
potential data corruption may occur.
HOW TO CHARGE THE PEN
USING A PC
1. Plug the USB cable into the jack located in the center of the
pen after unscrewing it.
2. Plug the other end of the USB cable into your PC
Ensure the pen is off or on Standby Mode
The blue indicator light will flash while it is charging.
The blue indicator light will stay solid when fully charged
USING THE AC ADAPTOR CHARGER
1. Plug the A/C adapter into a power source such as an outlet
2. If the A/C light is on, then power is being fed to the adapter
If the light is not on, try a different outlet
3. Connect the USB charging cable to the A/C adapter

4. Ensure the pen is turned off or in Standby Mode
5. Connect the USB charger cable to the pen
•The blue indicator light will flash while it is charging.
•The blue indicator light will stay solid when fully charged.
HOW TO RECORD VIDEO
NOTICE: Ensure the lens cover on the pen has been slid down before
beginning recording.
1. Push the Power / Record Button until the blue light turns on.
2. Wait about 3 seconds, the green light will start blinking.
The pen is now recording video.
The green light will blink once every second while recording.
3. Push the Record Button again to stop recording.
The blue light will turn on indicating it is in Standby mode and
will remain solid until you start recording again.
4. Press and hold the Power / Record button to power off the pen.
NOTICE: If the continuous recording time for a video is over 60 minutes, the
pen will save the current recording data and automatically continue
recording to a new file.
HOW TO TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS
1. Push the Power/ Record Button until the blue light turns on.
2. Wait around 3 to 5 seconds.
The light will now flash green.
3. When the green light starts flashing, push the Power/ Record
Button.
The light will turn blue, indicating the pen is in Standby
mode.
4. Press the Record/Stop button quickly 3 times, the blue and
green light will alternatively blink.
The pen is now in Photography mode.
5. In Photography Mode (blue and green indicators blink
alternately), press the Record/Stop button once to take a
photo.
6. Next the blue indicator light will blink, and two photos will be
taken and saved each time. The blue light flashes rapidly
when a photo is taken as confirmation.
7. To exit Photography Mode, quickly push the Power/ Record
Button 3 times.
The light will turn a solid blue indicating the pen has
returned to standby mode.
Note: To obtain the clearest picture, please keep the unit stationary
and do not move while you are taking a photo.
HOW TO RECORD WITH MOTION DETECTION
1. Push the Power/ Record Button until the blue light turns on.
2. Wait around 3 to 5 seconds.
The light will now flash green.
3. When the green light starts flashing, push the Power/ Record
Button.
The light will turn blue, indicating the pen is in Standby
mode.
When the recorder is in Standby Mode (blue indicator light is on),
quickly press the Record/Stop button 4 times, the recorder will enter
Motion Detection Mode, and the green indicator lights will blink three
times.
1. In Motion Detection Mode (blue and green indicators blink
slowly), when an object is moving in front of the lens, the
recorder will begin video recording automatically, blue and
green indicator lights will blink faster.
2. When an object stops moving, after a few seconds, the
recorder will stop recording and save video data automatically.
3. Press the Record/Stop button once, which will pause motion
detecting, and the blue and green Indicator lights will remain
on.
4. To exit Motion Detection mode, once again quickly press the
Record/Stop button 4 times, the unit will revert back to
Standby Mode, the blue indicator light will stay on.

TURNING OFF THE PEN
When the pen is in Standby Mode, hold the Record/Stop button
down for 3 seconds, the pen will shut down.
The unit will also turn off under the following conditions:
1. The battery’s power is low (the blue indicator light will blink
for several seconds, and then the pen will save current data
and shut down automatically).
2. The memory of the recorder is full (at this time, the blue and
green indicators will blink for several seconds, and then the
recorder will save data and shut down automatically).
3. If there has been no operation for 5 minutes in Standby Mode,
the unit will shut down to save power.
SETTING VIDEO RESOLUTION
Three video resolutions can be set as needed: 1280x720, 640x480 and
352x288.
1. A sample file “framesize.txt” is included in the CD, you can open
this file to the root of the device and edit the source digit for
different video resolutions:
•0 for 1280x720;
•1 for 640x480;
•2 for 352x288;
2. The contents of this file will be only a single digit: 0, 1, or 2. It
will not include the actual resolution number.
3. Next you must save the file to the root directory of the pen,
when the pen is connected to the computer.
4. Disconnect the pen from computer, turn the recorder on and
the new video resolution will be automatically applied.
SETTING TIMESTAMP
The recorder has a real-time display, with the date and time being
shown on an image. To set or adjust the date and time, follow these
steps:
1. A sample file “time.txt” is included on the CD.
2. Save the file as a text file and it must be named “time” (all
lowercase).
3. Edit a text file, the contents of this text file will only be
20091106153000
(Year – 2009, Month – 11, Day – 06, Hour – 15, Minutes – 30,
Seconds – 00)
4. Save this file under the root directory of the pen memory
when the pen is connected to your computer.
5. Disconnect the pen from the computer, turn the pen on, the
time will be automatically applied.
RETRIEVE THE FILES TO YOUR PC
1. Plug the device into your PC using the USB cable
2. Locate “Removable Disk” inside the (My) Computer folder
AutoPlay Removable Disk > Open folder to view files

Go to Start > Computer > Removable Disk
3. Open the Removable Disk drive
4. Open the PHOTO/VIDEO/VOICE folder
5. Double click the file you want to view
VLC Player is recommended for watching videos
MAINTENANCE & TROUBLESHOOTING
THE DEVICE WON’T TURN ON
Charge the device for at least 4 hours before the first use
Make sure the charging cable is securely inserted into the
device and into the power source
RESET FUNCTION
In case of system error or the unit operates abnormally, please reset
the recorder.
There is a small Reset hole on the back of the pin above the
LED Indicator light, use a thin stick (e.g. safety pin, toothpick)
to gently press the Reset button inside the hole.
THE DEVICE ISN’T CHARGING
Replace the USB charger.
If you are charging via a wall power source, you may need to
charge via your PC. The AC adapter might be damaged.
MY COMPUTER DOESN’T RECOGNIZE THE DEVICE
Unplug the device from your PC and reboot the device.
Unplug the device from your PC and reboot your PC.
Try using a different USB slot on your PC.
Replace the USB cable.
THE SOUND OR VIDEO IS UNCLEAR
The device needs to be charged.

or moisture can contain minerals that may corrode its
electrical circuits. If your device does get wet, dry it off
immediately and thoroughly.
•Do not use or store the device in dusty or dirty areas to
protect the integrity of its moving parts and electronic
components.
•Do not store the device in hot areas to prevent warping of
plastics and to avoid electronic or battery damage.
•Do not store the device in cold areas to prevent
condensation forming internally and damaging
components.
•Do not attempt to open the unit.
•Do not drop, knock, or shake the device.
•Do not use chemicals, cleaning solvents, or detergents to
clean the device.
