supplied).
b. One or two fiber optic cables that are compatible with the particular SFP transceivers that have been
selected. (Fiber optic cables are user-supplied).
Caution: If you plan to use two uplink connections, it is imperative that you enable the Rapid
Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) and you consult with the Network Administrator to ensure that
the network has been designed to support RSTP.
HARDWARE TOPOLOGY AND INSTALLATION OVERVIEW
Note: Wiring harnesses and Amphenol cables are available from Mitel for connecting the StreamLine unit to
the customer premises wiring. See the Mitel StreamLine Hardware Installation Guide for more information.
IMPORTANT: Before proceeding with the StreamLine installation ensure that:
The site survey has been satisfactorily completed.
The wiring plant has been evaluated and that it is acceptable. For details refer to the
Hardware Installation Guide, Appendix A Verifying the Wiring Plant.
CAUTION: To avoid possible damage to either the StreamLine switch or the IP end points, DO NOT
POWER UP the StreamLine switch until all wiring has been completed and all IP end points are
connected.
CAUTION: Once the StreamLine switch has been installed, and if it is necessary to make any wiring
changes (Moves, Adds or Changes); the StreamLine switch SHOULD BE powered down.
Wiring changes at cross-connect panels MUST ALWAYS be performed with the StreamLine switch
powered down, NEVER work on a cross-connect panel with live wires.
1. Remove the StreamLine switch and all accompanying accessories.
2. Install the rackmount brackets for rack mounting. Unit fits in standard 19” (48cm) racks
3

Mitel StreamLine Switch Quick Install Guide
3. Install the protective grounding conductor (please refer to the System Grounding section of this guide).
4. Remove all legacy analog/digital phones from the RJ11 wall jacks.
Note: It is extremely important that no legacy phones be connected when you power on the StreamLine.
5. Connect a Dongle to the Network jack on each IP phone and connect the other end of the Dongle into the RJ11
cable that is connected to wall jack.
Note: Do not locally power an IP phone while using the Dongle.
6. Connect the Telco cable (female end) to RJ21 connectors.
Note: To firmly seat the RJ21 cable make sure that you fasten it by means of the screw on the RJ21 cable
connector.
If the installation requires only one uplink connection:
7. Connect a CAT-5e Ethernet cable from the port labeled GbE 1 to the IP PBX or to the LAN.
OR
8. Connect a fiber cable from the SFP transceiver installed in the port labeled GBIC 1 to the appropriate networking
gear if using a fiber connection.
If the installation requires two uplink connections:
9. BEFORE CONNECTING THE UPLINK PORTS TO THE LAN: Contact the System Administrator and ensure that
the network is designed to support STP or RSTP. Obtain from the System Administrator the correct operational
values for STP or RSTP and configure the StreamLine switch accordingly.
Ensure that STP or RSTP is enabled on the StreamLine switch before connecting the uplink ports to the LAN.
Note: This connection also permits in-band management over Ethernet.
10. Daisy chain the StreamLine switches using DC cables; refer to Power Capabilities and Considerations section for
power supply redundancy.
11. Power up the StreamLine.
Note: Ensure that all end points on the RJ21 are connected before powering up the unit.

POWER CAPABILITIES AND CONSIDERATIONS
StreamLine comes standard with a hot swappable power supply, for
power/load sharing.
For a redundant power configuration, daisy-chain multiple StreamLine
switches:
You can connect up to a max. of 4 units for power/load sharing.
Mount all StreamLine switches in the same equipment rack, with no more
than 1U space between any two units.
Note: You can daisy-chain the units together while they are up and running
or power them up afterward.
Facing the rear of the units, install the DC cables (provided with the product
package) as follows:
Note: To fit properly, the DC cable must be inserted into the DC input/output
connector with its hairpin clip on top.
For the top unit, insert the first cable into the DC input connector on the left
until it clicks into place. Bring the other end of the cable down to the next
unit, and connect to the DC output connector on the right.
Continue in the same way for each pair of units, connecting the DC input
(left) connector on the upper unit to the DC output (right) connector on the
lower unit.
Important: For the bottom unit, the last cable from the DC input (left)
connector goes up to the DC output (right) connector on the top unit. This is
required to create a fully redundant ring.
Note: If you need to move a cable to a different DC connector on the StreamLine, press the hairpin clip at the top
of the DC cable and pull the cable out.

Not smaller in size than, and equivalent in insulation material and thickness to, the grounded and ungrounded
branch circuit supply conductor
An insulated green wire with yellow stripes
Part of the circuit that supplies that product or system
Connected to ground at the service equipment.
Protective Grounding Conductor
Install the protective grounding conductor to the system.
The protective grounding conductor must comply with the general rules for grounding contained in Article 250 of the
National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, or Section 10 of the Canadian Electrical Code, CSA C22.1. The protective
grounding conductor must not depend on the power cord and plug of the product.
The ground symbol within a circle identifies the terminal to be connected to an external protective
conductor. Connect this terminal to earth ground before you make any other connections to the
equipment.
The protective grounding conductor must be:
An Insulated wire, #5 (13mm2) to #14 (2mm2) AWG, with green and yellow stripes
Connected to the grounding stud on the back of the cabinet.

ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION
WASTE ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT - WEEE
The WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) legislation aims to raise the level of recycling of electrical
and electronic equipment and to encourage designers to create products with recycling in mind.
The Mitel StreamLine and the StreamLine Dongle equipment that you bought have required the extraction and use of
natural resources for their production. They may contain hazardous substances that could impact health and the
environment.
In order to avoid the dissemination of those substances in our environment and to diminish the pressure on the
natural resources, we encourage you to use the appropriate take-back systems. Those systems will reuse or recycle
most of the materials of your end-of-life equipment in a sound way.
The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol invites you not to dispose of WEEE as unsorted municipal waste
and to collect such WEEE separately.
If you need more information on the collection, reuse and recycling systems, please contact your local or regional
waste administration.
You can also contact us for more information on the environmental performances of our products.
