Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of a Motorola
PRO
ENCORE! pager. This compact pager uses many
advances in electronic and wireless technology which allow
you to receive numeric messages instantly and affordably.
Controls
Buttons
WOn/Read/Select - turn pager on, read incoming
messages, and select the function displayed.
VBacklight/Reset - turn the display light on and reset
the pager to the standby screen, which shows time,
date, alarm status, and alert status.
Press
V
twice
to reset to the standby screen.
XMenu - scroll through the menu.
After performing any pager function described in this user’s
guide (setting the time, date, alarm, and so on), your
PRO
ENCORE! pager automatically returns to the standby
screen and activates the selections you made.
Function Indicators
[Silent Alert - the vibrator alerts without audible
alerts for incoming messages.
DAudibleAlert-oneofseveralpleasingaudiblealerts
sound for an incoming message.
\Alarm - the alarm alerts you at the set time.
=Message Protect - this message is protected
against deletion.
BContinuous Message - more message information
is on the next screen.

Turning Your Pager On
• Press Wto turn your pager on.
Your pager gives an alert by either a sound or a vibration,
indicating that it is on. After displaying the power-up screen,
the time of day, the date, and an alert indicator are shown.
Receiving and Reading Messages
Your
PRO
ENCORE! pager can receive up to sixteen 20-
character messages. When a message is received, the
pager alerts for eight seconds.
• Press any button to stop the alert.
• Press Wto display the message.
• Press Vtwice while reading your message to return to
the standby screen.

Messages longer than 12 characters display on a second
screen, indicated by the Bsymbol. Press Wto display the
second screen. The second screen displays automatically
after one minute, even if Wis not pressed.
The last screen of your message displays the message slot
number and the time received.
If a message is not read, the pager gives a reminder alert
every two minutes and the screen displays the number of
unread messages (i.e., 1 page,2 pages) until all
messages are read.
If the pager receives more messages than its available
memory can hold, the new message replaces the oldest
read,unprotectedmessageandoverflow displaysonthe
screen. After all read messages are replaced, a new
message replaces the oldest unread message. Replaced
messages are lost and not recoverable.

Turning Your Pager Off
• Press Xuntil the pager off? prompt displays.
• Press Wto turn your pager off.
The pager displays the time and date, but not an alert mode
indicator. If the alarm is set, the alarm indicator\remains
on the screen when the pager is off.
Turning the Light On
• Press Vto turn the light on.
• To turn the light off, pressVagain. The light turns off auto-
matically two seconds after returning to the standby
screen.
Changing Alert Modes
• Press X. Either silent ? or audio ? displays,
depending on the current mode.
• If audio ? displays, then the pager is in “Silent” mode.
Press W to change to “Audio” mode. The pager chirps.
• Ifsilent ? displays,then thepager is in“Audio” mode.
PressWto change to “Silent” mode. The pager vibrates.
For your pager to vibrate when a message is received, it
must be in “Silent” mode.
Selecting an Audible Alert
• Press Xuntil set alert ? displays.
• PressWagain and thecurrent alert number displays,for
example: alert 3, and the pager gives a sample of the
alert tone.
• PressXuntilthedesiredalerttypedisplays.Aseachalert
number displays, the pager gives a sample of the alert
tone.
• Press Wto select the alert number, set the alert tone to
be used, and return to the standby screen. When mes-
sages are received, your pager gives the selected alert
only when in the audio mode D.6
Setting the Time
• Press Xuntil set time ? displays.
• Press Wto set the time. The hour flashes.
• Press Xto change the hour. Press Wto switch to the
minutes. The first digit of the minutes flashes.
• Press Xto change the first minute digit. Press Wto
switchto theseconddigit. Thesecond digitofthe minutes
flashes.
• Press Xto change the second minute digit. PressWto
switch to AM/PM. The a or pflashes.
• Press Xto change AM/PM.
• Press Vtwice to return to the standby screen.
Setting the Alarm
• Press Xuntil set alarm ? displays.
• Press Wto select the alarm on/off sequence.on or off
flashes.
• Press Xto turn the alarm on or off. PressWto switch to
the hours. The hour flashes.
• Press Xto change the hour. Press Wto switch to the
minutes. The first digit of the minutes flashes.
• Press Xto change the first minute digit. Press Wto
switchto theseconddigit. Thesecond digitofthe minutes
flashes.
• Press Xto change the second minute digit. PressWto
switch to AM/PM. The a or pflashes.
• Press Xto change AM/PM.
• Press Vtwice to return to the standby screen.
The \displays when the alarm is turned on. The pager
vibrates or gives a 20-second alert and alarm displays at
the selected time.
If set, the alarm activates even when the pager is off.
• Press any button to stop the alarm alert.

Setting the Date
• Press Xuntil set date ? displays.
• PressWtosetthedateinyourpager.Themonthflashes.
• Press Xuntil the desired month displays. Press Wto
switch to the day. The day flashes.
• Press Xuntil the desired day displays. Press Wto
repeat setting the date, if needed.
• Press Vtwice to return to the standby screen.
Saving Messages
• To save a message, press Xwhile reading your mes-
sage. The prompt protect ? displays.
• Press Wto protect the message.
•A
=
indicates that your message is saved.
• PressXwhile readingthe savedmessageto removethe
protection. The prompt unprotect ? displays.
• Press Wto remove the protection.
• The =is removed from the screen.
Saved messages cannot be erased or overwritten by new
messageswhenthememoryisfull.Youcansaveuptoeight
messages.
Erasing Messages
• Press Xuntil erase all? displays.
• Press W. Your read, unprotected messages are erased.
The pager returns to the standby screen.
The erase all? prompt displays only if there are read
messages in memory. 8
Selective Erase of Messages
• Press Xtwice while reading a message and the
delete ? prompt displays.
• PressWtodeletethemessage andreturntothe standby
screen.
Only unprotected messages can be deleted.
Effective Use of Your
PRO
ENCORE! Pager
Your
PRO
ENCORE! pager can help you keep in contact
with everyone important to you. . . children or child care
providers,business office,data services,and voicemail. Be
surethat yourchildren’s school,physician, andfriends have
the number to contact you in emergencies.
Give your pager number to family, friends, and associates
toassurecontactatanytime,anyplace.Whentheycallyour
pager number, they enter the number where they can be
reached on a tone-type telephone. This number is then
displayed on your
PRO
ENCORE! pager.
Ifyouhaveacellularphone,giveyourpagernumberinstead
of your cellular number. Then you can decide who to call
back, without paying for incoming cellular calls. Your
PRO
ENCORE!
pager can help reduce your monthly
cellular phone bill!
Battery Information
Your
PRO
ENCORE!
pager is designed to operate with an
AAA-size alkaline battery. See diagram on page 2 for the
batterydoor location.Ifdetached fromthe pager,the hinged
battery door can be easily snapped back into place.

Features
Backlight: In low-light conditions, the backlight makes the
screen easy to read.
Duplicate Messages: If the same message is received
more than once, duplicate displays at the beginning of
the latest message. This message contains the latest
timestamp and prevents a repeated message from taking
an extra memory slot.
Group Call: This feature permits a group of people to
receive the same message at the same time. A unique alert
and the group 1 identifier and source indication precede
a Group Call message.
Low Battery Indicator: When battery power reaches low
levels, lo cell displays, prompting you to change the
battery. All pager alerts change to two seconds in length to
save battery power.
Memory Erase: Messages can be erased all at once or
selectively at your choice to free space in memory.
Memory Retention: All messages remain in memory even
when the pager is off and while replacing the battery.
Message Memory: Your
PRO
ENCORE! pager can
receive up to sixteen 20-character messages.
Message Protect: You can protect up to eight messages
stored in the pager memory.
Overflow: overflow displays when more unread
messages are received than the available message
memory can hold. After you read all of your unread
messages, the standby screen displays.
Personal Alarm: This alarm can be set to alert you. The
alarm works even when the pager is off.
Reminder Alert: The pager chirps or vibrates every two
minutes until you read all unread messages.
Standby Screen: The standby screen displays the time of
day and the indicators.
Time of Day/Day and Month:The time of day and the date
display whether the pager is on or off. 10
Timestamp: The time of day a message is received
displays on the last screen of each message.
Tone Only Pages: When a message is received that does
not contain numeric data,tone only displays. Tone Only
pages show a tone number associated with the sender.
User Selectable Audible Alerts: A selection of five alert
tonesgives you achoice ofmessage alerts heardwhen you
are paged in the audible alert modeD.
Cleaning Your
PRO
ENCORE! Pager
To clean the pager housing, use a soft, non-abrasive cloth
moistened in a mild soap and water solution. Wipe the
surface using a second cloth moistened in clean water.Do
not place in water. Do not use alcohol or other cleaning
solutions.
Repair and Maintenance
Your
PRO
ENCORE! pager, properly handled, is capable
of many years of trouble-free service. However, if service is
required, Motorola's National Service Organization, staffed
with specially trained technicians, offers conveniently
located repair and maintenance facilities throughout the
country. Please contact your paging service representative
or a Motorola sales office for more information.
