1 Safety Regulations
1.1 Correct Use
The ASV without warning device, hereafter referred to as device, automatically
switches over breathable air supply from compressed air feeding line to SCBA or
from SCBA to compressed air feeding line, depending on pressure differences be-
tween the compressed air feeding line pressures and the SCBA.
It is imperative that this operating manual be read and observed when using the
product. In particular, the safety instructions, as well as the information for the use
and operation of the product, must be carefully read and observed. Furthermore,
the national regulations applicable in the user's country must be taken into account
for a safe use.
Alternative use, or use outside this specification will be considered as non-compli-
ance. This also applies especially to unauthorised alterations to the product and to
commissioning work that has not been carried out by MSA or authorised persons.
1.2 Liability Information
MSA accepts no liability in cases where the product has been used inappropriately
or not as intended. The selection and use of the product are the exclusive respon-
sibility of the individual operator.
Product liability claims, warranties also as guarantees made by MSA with respect
totheproductarevoided, ifit is notused, servicedor maintainedin accordance with
the instructions in this manual.
1.3 Safety and Precautionary Measures
The device described in this manual is in accordance with the currently valid test
and approval directives 89/686/EEC. The unit of the DSL series described in this
instruction manual has been tested and approved with a protective suit in accord-
ance with the directive EN 943-2:2002.
Danger!
This product is supporting life and health. Inappropriate use, mainte-
nance or servicing may affect the function of the device and thereby se-
riously compromise the user's life.
Before use the product operability must be verified. The product must
not be used if the function test is unsuccessful, it is damaged, a compe-
tent servicing/maintenance has not been made, genuine MSA spare
parts have not been used.

2.1 Function
The device automatically switches over breathable air supply from compressed air
feeding line to SCBA or from SCBA to compressed air feeding line, depending on
pressure differences between the compressed air feeding line pressures and the
SCBA.
In case of using the compressed air feeding line with a pressure reducer together
with compressed air cylinders, there is an acoustic retreat warning. The warning de-
vice at the pressure reducer of the compressed air line breathing apparatus acti-
vates at the latest by a cylinder pressure of 30 bar and emitting an audible signal.
While using an external compressed air feeding line breathing apparatus, the user
is supplied with breathable air from i.e. a SCBA, a compressed air cylinder (e.g. 50 l
permanentcylinder),via acompressed airlinebreathing apparatus (DSG)pressure
reducer or from a compressed air feeder.
The SCBA, the Lung Governed Demand Valve (LGDV) and the supply hose of the
external air supply from the pass thru of the chemical suit are connected to the de-
vice.
3Use
3.1 Preparations for Use
It is assumed that the device is ready to be put into service having undergone all
checks according to chapter 4.
3.2 Handling the Line Coupling
To connect:
Push plug nipple into coupling until coupling sleeve engages.
To disconnect:
Push plug nipple into coupling and at the same time pull back coupling sleeve.
Then plug nipple can be pulled out.
Attention!
Whendisconnecting the compressedairfeedingline ends whilethey are
under pressure the plug nipple side must be held firmly. The escaping
air could otherwise cause the line to be propelled in an uncontrolled way
(especially long lines).
