DIRECTIONS FOR THE 4 MINUTE CHECK
For the Safety event at the OWEA Operations Challenge we will be using an MSA Altair 5 Gas Meter. If you
have any questions about the meter you may contact Ed Nutter, Safety Event Coordinator at
[email protected] or 740.670.7950
a. Attach hose to the BACK and top of the meter (hose attaches using a quick connect fitting)
b. Press and HOLD the middle button until “MSA” appears on screen
c. Verbalize “GAS METER ON”

d. Allow unit to finish power on self-test
e. When screen reads “PUMP TEST” use your thumb to block the end of the hose and verbalize
“BLOCKING PUMP”.
f. When screen reads “PUMP TEST PASS” unblock pump and verbalize “PUMP
CLEAR”
g. Allow unit to finish power on self-test
h. Remove hose from gas meter and neatly coil hose
i. At the conclusion of the equipment check, the gas monitor should be left
in the ON position and placed within the equipment area
