Muratec’s new MFX-2830 MFP is the
company’s new flagship device, prominently
featured at the top of the manufacturer’s
product line and targeted at the Segment
Two workgroup market.
“The MFX-2830 gives both our large and
small dealers an additional option beyond
what their primary manufacturers offer,” said
Jim D’Emidio, Muratec America’s vice
president of sales and marketing.
Design Features:
The Muratec MFX-2830 is a copier-based
MFP with an advertised speed of up to
28ppm. It comes standard with a 233MHz
processor, standard 32MB RAM shared
between copy and print functions
(upgradeable to a maximum of 64MB), a
100-sheet single-pass duplex scanner, print
capability via USB 2.0 (the fastest type of
USB connection in this sector), a 33.6 kbps
fax modem and a standard paper capacity of
1,150 sheets.
Copy/optical scanner resolution is 600 x
600dpi. Warmup time is advertised as 17
seconds, with a first copy out time of 5
seconds.
Options include duplex printing, an additional
fax line, additional paper supplies (maximum
upgraded capacity is 3,650 sheets), staple or
hole punch finishing capabilities and
10/100BaseTX Ethernet connectivity.
The optional OfficeBridge Pro suite software
package adds network Windows-based print
and scan capability, scan to email, workflow
management, desktop and internet fax
functions and enables browser-based
network administration. PCL can be added
as an optional upgrade.
An unusual feature in this market is the
device’s interactive voice guidance system,
which the manufacturer says can assist
users with programming functions and
troubleshooting. This function is accessed
by pressing a special dedicated button (it can
also be easily turned off).
Muratec used its 32-bit FaxRISC
microprocessor (two 16 bit microprocessors
combined into one unit) with QuadAccess
performance in the MFX-2830. Muratec says
QuadAccess allows the device to perform
four or more simultaneous functions without
slowing down. This would allow users, for
example, to receive a fax into memory, print
a document from a desktop PC, scan a
document and send a fax (if they have a dual
line model) without sacrificing processing
speed. This can be useful in small offices,
where space may be limited and a number of
people have various types of work that needs
to get done.
