Daily maintenance
When to perform maintenance:
At the end of the working day (Be sure to perform the following maintenance)
Preparation:
Required Items:
(a) Dedicated maintenance cleaner
(Optional accessories)
(b) Plastic cup for cleaning stick (Included)
(c) Cleaning stick
(Included or Optional accessories)
(d) Paper towel (Included)
or Polyester knit wiper (Optional accessories)
(e) Plastic cup for dropper* (Included)
(f) Dropper (Included)
(g) Plastic gloves (Included)
Use a paper towel supplied with the printer or optional
Polyester knit wiper. DO NOT use a tissue.
Lints or akes on tissue may cause damage to the print
head.
DO NOT use non-dedicated maintenance cleaner.
Wear the plastic gloves.
Important!
The cleaning stick submerged in the plastic cup can be used for
1 week. Change the cleaning stick once a week, or when the ink
on the stick cannot be removed.
Make sure to change the maintenance cleaner once a week.
If the cleaning stick gets dirty while cleaning, submerge the
foam tip of the stick into the maintenance cleaner in the cup. If
the dirt does not get o, change the cleaning stick. Once a week

Daily Maint.: Start
Put the printer into Sleep Mode.
When [Daily Maint.: Start] appears on the operation
panel, press the [Enter] key.

If you do not use the printer longer than 24 hours, go
to "When not using the printer for long periods (longer
than 24 hours)" on page 4.
Daily Maint.: End
When [Daily Maint.: End] appears on the operation
panel, open maintenance cover on the right side of
the printer and remove it.
You can start the daily maintenance with following
steps.
The carriage will move to the left side of the printer.
Even if you do not use the printer, make sure to follow the instructions “When not using the printer
for long periods (longer than 24 hours)”on page 4 to perform maintenance.
This maintenance is required to keep the printer in good condition.
Make sure to complete this maintenance within
5 minutes while the printer is in maintenance state.
Important! *Plastic cup for dropper
When you drop maintenance cleaner onto printer parts using the dropper, do NOT
use the maintenance cleaner in the plastic cup that the cleaning stick is submerged.
In this maintenance procedure, you will moisten some printer parts with mainte-
nance cleaner using the dropper. If you cannot suck up maintenance cleaner
directly from the maintenance cleaner bottle using the dropper, use one of the
plastic cup to pour the cleaner.
If the maintenance cleaner still remains in the plastic cup, put a plastic bag or wrap
over the cup to keep out dust.

Pour 30 ml of dedicated maintenance cleaner into the
plastic cup and dip the foam tip of the cleaning stick
in it.

Important!
Use the cleaning stick to clean around the
rubber part of the capping unit to remove the
ink deposits and dust.
When cleaning the cleaning wiper and surface around the capping unit, check the points below:
Do not touch the cleaning wiper and the capping unit with your hands.
If oil from your hands gets on those parts, this cleaning may not be performed properly.
Always use a cleaning stick dampened with the dedicated maintenance cleaner in the plastic cup.
DO NOT use non-dedicated maintenance cleaner. It may cause nozzle clogging.
DO NOT touch the tip of the cleaning sticks with your nger. If nger oil gets on the stick, it will damage the
print head.
The cleaning stick submerged in the plastic cup can be used for 1 week. Change the cleaning stick once a
week, or when the ink on the stick cannot be removed.
This cleaning should be complete within 5 minutes. If it takes longer, the stick can dry causing damage to
the print head. DO NOT touch the absorber (yellow)

2. How to clean the cleaning wiper and capping unit
1Use the cleaning stick to clean the left side
surface of the cleaning wiper (a black rubber
part).
2Use the cleaning stick to clean the right side
surface of the cleaning wiper including the resin
part below.
Use the dropper to moisten the absorber of the
capping unit with maintenance cleaner.
Use about: 1.5 ml
Use the dropper to moisten the ushing-box
sponge with maintenance cleaner.
Use about: 3.0 ml
Use the maintenance cleaner sucked up from
the maintenance cleaner bottle or the plastic
cup for dropper.
Do NOT use the maintenance cleaner in the
plastic cup that the cleaning stick is submerged.
Use the maintenance cleaner sucked up from
the maintenance cleaner bottle or the plastic

Use the maintenance cleaner sucked up from
the maintenance cleaner bottle or the plastic
cup for dropper.
Do NOT use the maintenance cleaner in the
plastic cup that the cleaning stick is submerged.
3. How to clean around the print head

3Attach maintenance cover on the left side of the printer and close it.
Next end the daily maintenance.
Open maintenance cover on the left side of the
printer and remove it.

Moisten the paper towel with maintenance
cleaner and clean the air valve surface to remove
the ink deposits.
Wear vinyl groves to avoid contact with
maintenance cleaner.
Important!
Attach maintenance cover on the right side of the printer and close it.
Next clean surface around the print head.
If maintenance is likely to take more than 5 minutes, temporarily stop the process,
perform a nozzle check to see if there are no nozzle missing,
DO NOT touch the surface of a print head (yellow)

Use the cleaning stick to remove the ink deposits or dust on the bottom of the carriage.
Clean the part between the print head and
print head guide.
Important!
When cleaning surface around the print head, please note the followings.
Do not touch the print head surface with ngers or a cleaning stick.
It can cause damage to the print head.
Always use a cleaning stick and dampen it with dedicated maintenance cleaner before cleaning.
DO NOT use non-dedicated maintenance cleaner. It may cause nozzle clogging.
DO NOT touch the tip of the cleaning sticks with your nger. If nger oil gets on the stick, it will damage
the print head.
The cleaning stick submerged in the plastic cup can be used for 1 week.
Change the cleaning stick once a week, or when the ink on the stick cannot be removed.
This cleaning should be complete within 5 minutes. If it takes longer, the stick can dry causing damage to
the print head.

When not using the printer for long periods (longer than 24 hours)
If you are not using the printer for longer than 24 hours:
Follow the instructions on this sheet to perform daily maintenance and
then put the printer into sleep mode.
If you are not using the printer for over a week:
Please check “6.3.1.2 Before using sleep mode for a long time
(common to 4-color set and 5-color set)” on the operation manual.
In any of above cases, follow the steps below to perform daily maintenance
once a week.

Please contact your local Mutoh dealer or nearest Mutoh sales oce for ordering
maintenance parts.
Note
Put the cleaning stick back in the maintenance cleaner
in the cup to store.
Clean o the maintenance cleaner from the dropper
with paper towel.
Now the daily maintenance is complete.
Using plastic bag or wrap, put it over the maintenance cleaner in
the cup to keep out dust.
Make sure to change the maintenance cleaner once a week.
Check that the lid of the maintenance cleaner is shut properly and
store it.
Important!
Once a week
Press the [Enter] key on the operation panel.
The carriage moves to the original position.
The printer automatically enters to sleep mode.

Invert the ink bags back and forth to agitate ink.
Wake the printer from sleep mode.
(The printer will automatically perform “Little Charge”)
Perform a nozzle check to see if there are no nozzle missing.
Follow the steps on this sheet to perform daily maintenance,
and put the printer into sleep mode.
