ThePowerGIG‐OACswitchisself‐enclosedinanoutdoorNEMA4X/IP66ratedenclosurewith6kVsurge
protectiononeachporttoprotectagainstlightningorothersurgesincurrent,andadditionalfuseprotection
safeguardsagainstunintentionalintrusionfromoutsidepowerlines,eliminatingtheneedforexternalcircuit

Thissubclausesetsforthanumberofrecommendationsandguidelinesrelatedtosafetyconcerns.Thelistis
neithercompletenordoesitaddressallpossiblesafetyissues.Thedesignerisurgedtoconsulttherelevant
local,province,state,territory,national,andinternationalsafetyregulationstoverifycompliancewiththe
appropriaterequirements.
LANcablingsystemsdescribedinthisclausearesubjecttoatleastfourdirectelectricalsafetyhazardsduring
theirinstallationanduse.Thesehazardsareasfollows:
a) DirectcontactbetweenLANcomponentsandpower,lighting,orcommunicationscircuits.
b) StaticchargebuilduponLANcablingandcomponents.
c) High‐energytransientscoupledontotheLANcablingsystem.
d) VoltagepotentialdifferencesbetweensafetygroundstowhichvariousLANcomponentsareconnected.
Suchsafetyhazardsshouldbeavoidedorappropriatelyprotectedagainstforpropernetworkinstallationand
performance.Inadditiontoprovisionsforproperhandlingoftheseconditionsinanoperationalsystem,special
measuresshouldbetakentoverifythattheintendedsafetyfeaturesarenotnegatedduringinstallationofa
newnetworkorduringmodificationofanexistingnetwork.
PatchPanelConsiderations
Itispossiblethatthecurrentcarryingcapabilityofacablingcross‐connectmaybeexceededbyaPSE.The
designershouldconsultthemanufacturer’sspecificationstoverifycompliancewiththeappropriate
requirements.

codesforthelimitationofelectromagneticinterference.
