UNIT DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
The UW Ultrasonic Wall Switch sensors employ 40kHz ultrasonic tech no logy in
a single-gang wall switch unit. The UW sensor can turn a load ON, and hold it
ON as long as the sensor detects occ u p a n c y. After no movement is detec ted for
the selected time delay, the lights switch OFF. A “walk-through” mode can turn
lights OFF after only 3 minutes, if no activity is detect ed after 30 seco n d s
fo l low ing an occupancy detect io n .
The UW-100 has one relay and one ON/OFF button. The UW-200 co n tains two
relays and two ON/OFF buttons to allow co n t rol of one or two load s
in de p en de n tl y. Pre ssing a button tog g les the stat e of the co r responding re la y.
UW sensors co n tain a light level sensor. If adequate daylight is present, the
sensor holds the load OFF until light levels drop, even if the area is occupied. In
the UW-200, light level only affects the load on Relay 2. Users can override this
function by pres sing the ON/OFF button. See Light Level Adjustm e nt .
Turning The Load ON
The relays are prog rammed independently for either Auto ON or Manual ON. In
either mode, the load can be turned ON or OFF using the ON/OFF butto n .
Load turns ON and OFF auto m a t i cal ly based on occu pa n cy. If the
load is turned OFF manually, it stays OFF until 5 minutes afte r
the last occupancy detection, at which time it reverts to Auto ON
mode. This prevents the load from turning ON auto ma t i ca l ly
af ter it was delibera tely turned OFF. Pressing the button to turn
lights ON returns the sensor to Auto ON mode.
** UW-100: Switch 8 is not used. UW-200: Switch 8 default is ON to co mp ly
with CA Energy Commission Title 24 bi-level switching req u ire m e nt s .
Time Delays
The UW sensor holds the load ON until no motion is dete c ted for the selecte d
time delay. Select the time delay using DIP switch settings. The sensor
au to m a t i ca l ly sets the time delay when SmartSet is enabled. In the UW-200,
both relays use the same delay.

O ccupants must press the ON/OFF button to turn ON the lo ad .
The sensor keeps the load ON until no motion is detec ted for the
se le c ted time delay. There is a 30 second re - retrigger delay. If
o ccupancy re - t r i g g e rs during the delay, the sensor turns the
load back ON. After the re-trigger delay elapses the ON/OFF
b u t ton must be pressed to turn ON the load .

The UW sensor turns the load OFF 3 minutes after the
area is initially occupied, if no motion is dete c ted afte r
the first 30 seconds. If motion continues beyond the
f i rst 30 seconds, the set time delay applies.
Audible Alerts
The UW can provide audible alerts as a warning befo re the load turns OFF.
Load turns OFF then back ON before delay ex p i res.
Visible Alert
The UW sensor can provide a visual alert as a warning one minute before the
load turns OFF.
Time delays of 5, 1 5 (d e fault), or 30 minutes are
ava il ab le. See DIP SWITCH SETTINGS for infor ma t io n.
SmartSet™ auto
adjust time delay
and Test Mode
The sensor re co rds typical occupancy patterns. Using
this history (which isco n stan tly updated), it chooses an
optimal time delay from 7 minutes (if the space is
u s u a l lyva cant) up to 30 minutes (if the space gets
heavy usage). SmartSet behavior starts immediately,
and is refined co n t i n u a l ly as history is co l lecte d.
A Test Mode with a short time delay of 5 seconds is set
when DIP switches 1, 2 & 3 are OFF. It ca n ce l s
au to m a t i cally after five minutes, or when you set a
fi xed time delay. To restart Tes t Mode, change the time
delay setting to any fixed amount and then return it to
the Auto/ Test setting.

Cove rage testing has been performed according to the NEMA WD 7 guideline.
For best perfor ma n ce, use in spaces not larger than 15’ x 15’.

The sensor has two ultrasonic tran s ce i ve rs operating at 40kHz. Detect io n
sensitivity can be adjusted using the trimpot under the ON/OFF button s.

1. M ake sure that the power has been turned OFF at the circuit breake r.
2. Connect wires to the UW flying leads as shown in the wiring diagram below
that is appro p ri at e to the UW model and elect r ical supply.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Lights do not turn ON with motion (LED does flash)
1. P re ss and release each button to make sure that the co r rect lights co m e
ON for each rel ay. If the lights do NOT turn ON, check wire co n n e c t i o n s ,
e s p e c i a l lythe Load connection. If the lights turn ON, verify that the
co r rect On Mode is sele c ted in DIP switches 7 and 8.
2. Check to see if light level con trol is enabled: cover the sensor lens with
your hand. If the lights come ON, adjust the light level setting.
3. If lights still do not turn ON, call 800.879.8585 for te c hn ic al support.
Lights do not turn ON with motion (LED does not flash)

ON for each rel ay. If the lights turn ON, set Ultrasoic Sensitivity to max.
2. Check the wire connections, in particular, the Neutral and Line
connections. Verify that connections are tightly secured.
3. If lights still do not turn ON, call 800.879.8585 for te c hn ic al support.
ADJUSTMENTS
Sensor Adjustment
Re mo ve the wall plate. Remove the button cap by firmly squeezing together the
top sides of the button ass e m b ly. Gently pull it away from the unit.
When the adjustments are co m p leted, repl ace the button cap by inserting its
hinges into the tabs on the main unit and then squeeze the top of the button while
pre ssing it into the unit. Reinstall the cover plate.
Light Level Adjustment
The light level can be set with loads ON or OFF. To enable light level con trol and
set the threshold: 1) Make sure the room is lit appro pr i at ely. 2) Put the sensor into
TEST mode. You have 5 minutes to co m p le te the pro ced ure. 3) Press and hold the
ON/OFF button (Relay 1b u tton on the UW-200) for 3 seconds, until you hear a
beep. 4) Step away from the sensor. After 25 seconds a beep sounds, indica t i n g
that the threshold level is set. This threshold is re tained, even if power is lost ,
until it is re-set or disabled. In the UW-200, light level co n t rol only affects Relay 2.
To disable light level co n t rol, pre ss and hold the Relay 1bu t ton for 7 secon ds,
until a double beep tone sounds.
Reset to Default
To reset the UW to fact ory settings, pre ss and hold the Relay 1bu tto n for 10
secon ds, until a triple beep sounds. This resets the sensor occupancy history and
di sa b les light level co n t rol (the brighte st ambient light will not hold the light OFF).

Lights do not turn OFF
1. T he re can be up to a 30 minute time delay after the last motion is
d e te c ted. To verify proper operation, set DIP switch 1 to ON, then res e t
sw it ches 1, 2 and 3 to OFF to start Te st Mode. Move out of view of the
se ns o r. The lights should turn OFF in approx i m a tely 5 seco n d s .
2. Verify that the sensor is mounted at lea st six feet (2 mete rs) away from
any heating/ventilating/air conditioning dev i ce that may cause fa l s e
d e tection.
3. Verify that the Ultrasonic Sensitivity trimpot is not pointing at “over r id e”
(g reen LED is always ON). If so, ro ta te the trimpot to it’s middle setting
(pointing up). The override setting allows users to opera te the sensor as a
s e r v i ces witch in the unlikely event of a fail u re.
4. Verify that DIP switches 1,2, and 3 are not set to “override” (all switc he s
ON). If they are, change them to an appro pr i at e Time Delay setting.
5. If the lights still do not turn OFF, call 800.879.8585 for te ch n ical support.
Sensing motion outside desired areas
Ad ju st the Ultrasonic Sensitivity. Rotate trimpot co u n te rclockwise to
re du ce sensitivity.
